The war in the ring rarely takes a backseat for the battle of public opinion in James Edwards’ view. Tonight that isn’t the case. The Burning Heart is tailing Amanda Johnson, still dressed in his right gear and with the U.S. Championship draped on his shoulder--it is a weird night on Flashpoint.
James Edwards: C’mon, don’t I get a chance to tell my side of the story?
Amanda stops in her tracks, turns, and gives him quite a glare. Maybe James is still reeling from his grueling title defense because he fails to recognize he is treading in dangerous waters. In fact, he looks downright offended.
James Edwards: What about journalistic integrity?
Amanda puts a hand on her hip as if to say “Really?”. James shrugs his shoulders and takes on authoritative air.
James Edwards: It’s your job, Amanda and it won’t take that long. I think people will want to hear what I have to say. I didn’t mean to--
Amanda Johnson: Shut the hell up, James!
The rage in the normally pleasant interviewer’s voice is palpable. It knocks the condescension right of James’ demeanor.
Amanda Johnson: No one cares what you have to say. No one cares about a bullshit apology. You can look conflicted during a match all you want. You can say your sorry to Logan and no one will believe it. The fans, the locker room, and I saw what you saw did earlier. You threw another fit because you didn’t beat Chandler Scott. You refused to listen to good advice from one of the few people here that still held a smidge of respect for you, and it wasn’t much from what I gather. On top of that, you attacked him, and it wasn’t in the heat of the moment either. You knew what you were doing. You had no problem taking it to a level where you could have ended another man’s career.
She moves to where she is just inches away from James, her jaws clenched in a ferocious snarl.
Amanda Johnson: So, does us all a favor, okay? Shut the hell up. Go home and think about who you want to be. Stay home for all I care. Throw the belt in a river. Honestly, I’d rather you show up at Only the Strong Survive, so Salem can kick your ass. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a job to do.
Her point made, Amanda turns on her heel and storms off. James stands there in shock, and so does the cameraman. Neither of them expected Johnson’s outburst. Eventually, the cameraman snaps out of his trance and scurries after Amanda, leaving James alone with a belt he doesn’t want, marked as the outcast he’s made himself.
