The screen immediately opens with a shot of Molly Reid’s face as she’s standing in front of a giant window in her condo. The entire city of Philadelphia is visible behind her as she grins at the camera. She’s wearing a Laurel Hardy t-shirt with her FGA Pride Championship belt slung over her shoulder.
“It feels weird guys. I’m not gonna lie.”
Molly stares into the camera as she holds her title belt tightly.
“When I was given a chance to earn a shot at the Pride Championship, I was in the ring with a whole bunch of people that I didn’t really care for, including Evan Envi. After I won that, it was Fujiko for the title, who I also don’t really care for. Then, it was defending my title against Evan Envi, who I despise. But y’all know this already. What’s the point of rehashing it?”
Molly starts to walk across her condo, the camera always facing the windows behind her so that the city can still be seen.
“Those matches were easy to give my all for, because they were against people I didn’t like. In some cases, people I don’t respect. It was easy to motivate myself for those. Didn’t need to find extra help from anywhere, they all gave it to me. But this week is a little different. On Saturday, I go for my second title defense against Chris Madison. Someone I actually like. Someone I respect.”
Molly stops once again in front of a window and turns so that she’s completely facing the camera, looking directly into it.
“Chris is a phenomenal wrestler. He’s a former champion. He’s wrestled all over the world, since I was nine years old. I’ve been lucky enough to share the ring with him more than once and I can unequivocally say that he’s the real deal. Chris Madison is as good as they come. And you know what? He deserves this chance. He’s been beating people left and right for the last couple of years now. He avenged his only loss in FGA during this most recent run when he beat Annie last month. He’s actually beaten me in an FGA ring before, when Annie and him beat me and my ghostbusting partner for the chance to move on in the Wildcard Lottery Tournament. Then two weeks ago we got to team up to take on Izzy and Sav, so I got yet another great look at Chris from the closest seat possible. It would be a lie to say that he’s got some serious weakness that I can exploit. I’d be wrong to say that Chris doesn’t have talent, or that there are certain things he can’t do in that ring. Point is, Chris Madison is a phenomenal wrestler. He’s been a great wrestler his entire career, and I don’t expect anything less when we step into the ring on Saturday night at Grapple Kingdom.”
Molly takes a deep breath and glances at her title, before looking back at the camera and walking across her condo again.
“But I also know that Madison has failed to make that final leap here in FGA the last two times he’s had the chance. After he and Annie beat me in the Wildcard Lottery, they got to face each other for a chance to move on. And Madison could not take advantage and lost to Annie, ending any hopes he had of winning the FGA Championship. Before that, it was a shot at the tag team championships against Annie and my babe Laurel. But I seem to remember that didn’t quite go your way either. Gotta love Laurel right? I would say she’s sorry, but I don’t think she really is. Oh well. Point is, you’ve failed to capitalize on your two biggest chances here in this company. So I know you’re not going to want to waste your third. You’ve earned this shot for my Pride Championship, and you desperately don’t want to go zero for three in big opportunities here in FGA. You not only want to beat me, you need to beat me. You need to show everyone that this isn’t like the last time. That you’re not the guy to just get these great chances and blow them. Believe me, I was once that girl and I hated it. I did everything in my power to change it, and I was successful. So I know the kind of heart and determination that you’ll be coming into this match with. After all, third time’s the charm right?”
Molly grins as she repositions her title once again. She glances over at a shelf near her, which holds all of her other old championship belts. Molly looks back at the camera.
“But I’m not going to let that happen. See, here’s the thing. I went through hell to get this belt. When I started in FGA, I was given chances. But I, much like you Madison, could not get over that hump. I couldn’t do much in the Gold Rush Rumble. I couldn’t beat Annie for her Legacy Championship. I couldn’t advance in the Frontier Lions Cup. All these chances, and all these blown opportunities. But then I started focusing on different goals. I started focusing on winning, and lo and behold, I started actually winning. I won the five-way fray for the chance to fight for the Pride Championship. Then I won the Pride Championship against Fujiko. In a Pride Rules match, something I had never done before. Then, well, I think everyone knows what happened next. Evan Envi did everything he possibly could to throw me off my game and get in my head so that he could win this belt. He put everything he could into his efforts, and he still came away empty-handed. This belt is still right here on my shoulder because I took on every obstacle that was thrown in my way and I overcame it all. And now I’ve got yet another big obstacle in Chris Madison. A guy who’s been wrestling for more than half of my life. Someone who knows every trick of the trade because he’s seen it all. In some ways this is my biggest challenge yet. Envi was personal, but Chris is a far more experienced and skilled wrestler than Envi was. I’m rambling, but the point I’m trying to get across is that I know just how dangerous Chris is.”
Molly takes a deep breath as she looks around, seemingly trying to figure out what her next words will be. She turns back to face the camera and grins.
“But that’s what I want. I want the biggest challenges. I’ve been saying that ever since I first came to FGA. Beating Madison is something that not a lot of people can say they’ve done, especially recently. But it’s something that I’ll be able to say after Grapple Kingdom. Because Chris, I’ve worked too damn hard to get here. You know that. I was so disappointed when you started accusing me of the underhanded tactics that you did. As if I was conspiring with Annie, resorting to cheap moves and exploiting rules in order to win. It hurt, honestly. I’ve said it time and time again that I do not need any of that shit to win matches. I’ll never ask for help, and I’ll never rely on cheating to win. I know I’m good enough to beat everyone in this company on any given night and that’s what I’ll continue to rely on. So yeah, it hurt to hear you accuse me of all these things. But I just kept doing my thing because I knew that maybe the only way to convince you was to actually do it. And now, you say that you no longer feel that way. That you were wrong about me. I’m glad to hear that, but I still plan on proving it to you. Maybe there’s a tiny bit of doubt left that I’m going to use some kind of lowbrow tactics to beat you and defend my title. But that’s just not going to happen. I’m going to beat you Chris Madison, because I’ve come too damn far to lose to you now. Come Saturday night, I’ll have held this Pride Championship for one hundred and forty days. I’m getting right up there for one of the longest reigns in Pride title history. I’ve still got a ways to go to catch the record, but I’m on my way. And that’s why I can’t lose to you Chris. I’ve said it time and time again. My goal is to be the greatest Pride Champion in the history of FGA. Beating you will allow me to continue my journey Chris. I respect the hell out of you. But you’re in my way. You’re going to get the best Molly Reid you’ve ever seen. You can watch all the tape you want, look at my old matches. Hell, you even saw me up close last show when we teamed together. But none of that is going to fully prepare you for what you’re going to get in the ring. Ask any of my opponents, even the ones who beat me. They’ll tell you how far they had to go to get past me. But even this is different from that. This is me defending my Pride title.”
Molly moves closer to the camera now, so pretty much the only thing that can be seen is her face.
“I’ve held a few titles in my life, and I’ve never lost one in a one-on-one match. I’ve had to forfeit due to injury, the company closed, but I’ve never lost a title defense. I’m not going to start now. This is my Pride Championship Chris. No matter what you do Saturday night, this is staying right here. I won’t lose. So bring it on Chris. Try to prove me wrong. Prove to me that you’ve got what it takes to be Pride Champion. I know I’m going to get your very best, and I know I’m going to be able to come out on top. This is another step on my path to be the greatest Pride Champion ever, and I’m excited to take that step.”
With that, Molly holds her Pride Championship belt in front of the camera for a few moments, before the screen cuts to black.
“It feels weird guys. I’m not gonna lie.”
Molly stares into the camera as she holds her title belt tightly.
