Once again we spot Amanda Johnson waiting at a location provided for her by Gabi Beltran. Despite her best efforts to remain professional, she seems to be growing impatient. When her phone rings to signal a call from an unidentified number, she glances around to make sure she has time to take it and then answers, "Hello?" Sighing lightly, she switches the call to speakerphone, adding, "Hi Gabi."
"You went to the location I gave you, right," the voice on the other end asks, although it's more of a statement than a question.
"Yeah, I'm waiting here, are you running late?"
"Not coming, sent you to scour the perimeter. Can't tip them off and do it myself."
"... what are you talking about?"
"John Wick Chapter 2, what's the line situation like. How many people camped out, I want to make sure I can get in when it opens. Need to know the specifics so I can assess my next action."
Johnson presses the knuckles of her free hand into her forehead, "This isn't Star Wars or something, nobody's camping out days ahead-- it's just a normal movie."
Silence lingers," You're dead to me, Johnson," another pause follows, "Sorry, I didn't mean that, but you shouldn't have said that."
"Can I at least ask you a few questions about your match while I have you here, if you're not going to come meet me?" Amanda queries, trying her best to remain calm.
"Sure."
A deep breath, "You've got a big fatal four way qualifier coming up for the Hollywood Cup and a bit of an unbeaten streak going over your past few matches, how important is a win here this week for keeping your momentum?"
"Momentum isn't going to win me any fights," comes the blunt reply, "Being violent and efficient will. My concern's beating up three people that night and one guy this week."
"Okay, well what are you thinking about facing the debutant Caspian Everett?"
"He's a new guy, don't really know much of anything about him; good test of how I can adjust in the middle of a fight.
"Well, there is some information out there on him and Caspian did tell us a bit about himself a few days ag --"
Gabi doesn't let her finish, "Literally everything he said was false. I try not to worry about what my opponent says right before a match, my concern is fighting, but since you brought it up, holy shit that was off the rails," states Beltran, who contrary to recent rumors is definitely not making her debut, "Way I see it is based off that I don't know if anything he told anyone about himself is true. I'm treating him as a complete mystery. That's fine, lots of lies out there in the world, only way to know what someone's really made of is to punch a hole in their chest and rip the still-beating heart out."
Quirking a brow, Amanda asks,"So how do you prepare for an opponent when you're treating them like a mystery?"
"I'm always prepared," comes the reply, "No matter the outcome I'm going to bring the violence and my focus is where it needs to be. I'm preparing like he's dangerous and I hope he is, when I expect a fight to the death, that's what I want to get. Him actually being 'savage' would be an early birthday present for me--" a beat skips, "That last line was stupid, forget that, I'll let my actions speak for me. Okay I'm done now, don't try to call me back , this is a burner-- bye."
With that awkward and abrupt ending, Johnson hits end call and shrugs her shoulders before motioning to the production crew to start packing up.
Fin.
