Our scene opens to a showroom at an undisclosed location. It’s a Royal Room of sorts. Just off to the side, we see a display of scepters that have been kept in pristine condition. Portraits of members from a bygone empire decorate the walls. But the main attraction of the room is straight ahead, where we see a large display of seven glass shelves. Each shelf is adorned with various crowns of all shapes and sizes. As the camera fades in, we sees someone’s reflection as they make their way to the oversized glass case. Emily Carter speaks in a hushed tone to the camera while continuing to gaze ahead at the crowns.
“Oh hi, babes. Emily Carter here and this week, I've got the distinct privilege of facing wrestling royalty... The Killer Queen herself, Avaset Kaiser!
Emily turns and curtsies to the camera.
Your highness…
She says while nodding her head down before standing back up.
“Now this isn't the first time I've been in the ring with nobility. But a Queen is much higher up on the totem pole than a Baroness. So it is definitely an honor to be facing someone of your stature, Ava…”
“... or is it?”
She wonders aloud.
I dunno. Maybe it's just me. But you would think that a prestigious title like "Queen" wouldn't be some common. I guess I must've missed the clichéd nickname giveaway. Ho hum…”
A beat passes.
“It seems like nowadays, you can pick any wrestling company out of a hat and 9 times out of 10, you'll find someone there calling herself a Queen. We've got the Fearless Queen, the Ice Queen, the Upset Queen, the Queen Bee, the Queen of Staten Island, so on and so on. So I've got to wonder, Ava, what makes you a Queen? Which titles have you acquired? What tournaments have you won? Who did you violently overthrow? Which Kingdom did you rule with an iron fist? 'Cause if you don't have an answer to all of those questions, then your royal title is gonna start looking real funny in the light. As far as I'm concerned, when it comes to pro wrestling, there's only one Queen and her name is Felicity Banks.”
“And you, ma'am, are no Felicity Banks.”
“Me? There’s no fancy nicknames over here. "Basic" is what I believe I've been called once or twice. Whatevs. It doesn't bother me much. What can I say? I'm simply me and judging by tournament, titles and accolades that I’ve won, that's worked out pretty well I think. What you see is what you get, Ava. And this week on Thursday Night Challenge, you're gonna be getting a whole lot of me…”
“...which is gonna be more than you can handle, by the way. Just a friendly heads up”
She says with a smile and a wink of the eye.
“This week, we're heading into our match with two thorns in our sides, aren't we? For us, the past few weeks, if not months, have been defined by our feuds with the likes of Mercy Williams and Jenny Knite. But while I can easily push Ms. Mouth Almighty off to the side and focus on the task at hand, can you do the same? I'm so sure. It seems like everytime I turn around, you're butting into Jenny’s matches, getting distracted by her, attacking her, etc. You feel some type of way towards her. Okay. But do you have the discipline to focus on your actual opponent this week? Will you show some restraint and avoid getting distracted by Jenny Knite?”
“Judging by your temper and your lack of self control, the smart money says "No". But I'm hoping you that you actually can show some restraint. I want you to actually show some sense of discipline. This week, Ava, I want to be the sole focus. Not because I'm desperate for attention. Far from it. Most people would welcome facing a distracted opponent. But not me. Instead, I want you at your very best. I want you firing on all cylinders. I want you at 100%, Ava. That way, when I beat you on Thursday Night Challenge, there won't be any room for excuses. That way, there won't be a need for an asterisk. That way, Ava, you'll know that even though you gave me your very best… you still wound up being second best.”
