ON CAMERA
[The video crackles to life, showing the empty Matthew Knight Arena. Various members of the FGA ring crew are working feverishly to put the finishing touches on the set ahead of tomorrow’s live Vertigo show. As the red and black ring apron comes into focus, an achingly familiar and beloved song is heard floating through the arena’s sound system. As the song plays on, the familiar voice of Savannah Taylor can be heard, though her face is not in the focus of the camera. Not yet anyway.]
“There is something to be said for the time that comes before a major event. So many thoughts run through a person’s head, so many different feelings flow through them that it’s hard to put into words just how they feel.”
[The camera slowly turns around to reveal the Las Vegas native standing with her back leaning against the steel barricade surrounding the ring. Her patented blonde locks are confined underneath a black knit cap with a vibrant red three headed dragon in the center. Her face is free of makeup as she looks directly into the camera on her iPhone 7 plus.]
“Me personally? I’m having no issues what so ever putting into words just how I’m feeling heading into Vertigo tomorrow night. I’m in the freaking Main Event, a place that after last year and how that whole fiasco went down, I’d never expect to be. This is me being one hundred percent real here. This is me telling the God’s honest truth. No one in a million years would ever think I’d be in the main event, myself included. But here we are and guess what? I’ve earned my spot here. I’ve earned this main event spot and I’m damn sure not going to let anyone tell me otherwise or try to take this away from me. This entire year is going to be spent reminding everyone the world over just who the fuck I am. Show by show, match by match, it WILL happen.”
“Of course, this journey won’t be without it’s trials, and I’ve been given the first of many big ones in the form of Johnny Karma. Under normal circumstances, I’d be moderately thrilled with facing someone such as Karma, but I’m afraid this isn’t one of those cases. Anyone who knows anything already knows that poor little Johnny’s head just isn’t with it. Am I in the right ballpark, Johnny? But let me be serious for a second. Is Cherry okay? I mean, that was quite the blow to the head that she took. I legit would hate to hear that she’s not doing well. Especially since what happened to her wasn’t even her fault. It isn’t her fault that she ran head on into Izzy’s fist. It isn’t even Izzy’s fault that Cherry got in her way. There is really only one person around here that is to blame for what happened to Cherry, one person who should shoulder the responsibility.”
[She extends the pointer finger on her left hand and aims it towards her phone.]
“You. You are solely responsible for what happened to your precious Cherry. If you had just kept her on her leash or kept her in the back, none of this would have happened. If you had just come out to the ring by yourself like the MAN that you claim you are, this whole situation could have been avoided. But no, you had to ignore conventional wisdom and instead let her get just a wee bit too close to the action. Why don’t you just man up and admit that this whole thing really is your fault? But oh no, admitting that you are wrong is too good for Johnny Karma, ladies and gentlemen. Johnny would much rather play the part of the hero when the odds seem to be stacked against him. He won’t admit that ninety nine percent of those situations are of his own making. This appears to be par for the course for you, Johnny. Things go good for a while. Something bad happens and then you sulk in the corner like a toddler. So much for acting like a grownup for a change.”
[She shakes her head as she clears her throat.]
“You may not be all together there, and I get it. But you had damn well better get it together come match time. Because if you don’t, then you are going to get dropped faster than you can say boo. I don’t want this emo teenager Johnny Karma to show up tomorrow night. I want the Johnny Karma who ended The New Kings. I want the Johnny Karma who took it to Johnny Cannon. Hell, I want the Johnny Karma who is a former two time Pride champion. I want THAT competitor to show up tomorrow night. That way WHEN I win, I’ll know I will have beaten you when you were on your A game. Afterwards, you can go back to being the sulky, brooding shell of a man that you are now. Speaking of being a shell of one’s self....how you doing, Chris Bond?”
[She says with a smirk and a wink.]
“I know that you are probably more than aware of the old saying that karma is a bitch. From where I stand, looking at you right now…..that saying is true. But while karma may indeed be a bitch, guess what? So am I. You’re about to find that out the hard way tomorrow night. Deuces.”
[She holds up two fingers in a peace sign before reaching out and hitting the button to end recording, thus cutting the feed off.]
