"Human beings always want to be more than what they are."
This is a setup we've never seen before in a Pedro Gonzales promo. It's clear we're in the passenger seat of a car that he's driving.
"It's the truth. You can look around in every continent under the sun. You can see the people eye an outfit at the window of a clothing store or talking about how they want to go back to collage or whatever. Any little twitch remotely near that direction is a move forward. Most give up on that dream far too easy. They stand still, afraid that the movement will ruin what they have now. While their lives often feel unsatisfactory, at least it gives off the illusion of stability. And clearly the premium we pay is worth it, right?"
A small glance to us.
"The truth is that becoming stagnant kills us. The lack of risk dulls our minds, pays our way, and corrodes our souls. So I hope it isn't that much of a shocker that I admit when I said by any means, I meant it.
I needed to win against Macy Dover. I needed it more than you can ever imagine. I needed the fight to quench my anger and the victory to help me sleep at night. She did her best to demolish and demoralize me. But I've taken my fair share of punishment and attempts of humiliation. That's nothing new to me. Ultimately, she couldn't destroy something that slithered right past her.
As I toppled her from her perch and got that three count, I felt satisfaction at not just beating her but outsmarting her. For a brief moment, I can almost feel my anger and disappointment of the past year dissipate."
He shakes his head.
"Needless to say, that didn't last very long. It never does because while that was going on, the babies began to cry about me not giving answers and our Paramount champion--a woman who manged to outlast most of the roster to win said title--managed to manipulate and ambush somebody I care very deeply for.
I'm not saying I am above tricking a person to gain the edge because I have started to realize I'm not. Under any other circumstances with anybody else, I'd say expect the unexpected especially from a champion. But this isn't a different circumstance and this isn't a different person."
The car stops at a light.
"Congratulations, Cindy. Now you have my attention."
There's venom in her name.
"Though really, all that moment in time did was prove your cowardice. That wasn't even to tilt things in your favor in a match. It was an attempt to incapacitate a woman who doesn't immediately bow to somebody who is so desperate for attention that she pays some actor that looks like Prince Harry to wheel around in a wheelchair and kiss her ass. Not to mention that gimp in the Stitch costume."
The venom gives way to snark with a smirk.
"Some may call me a hero but I'm not all that selfless. I'll confess that it's not entirely about Maritza Diaz.
Don't get me wrong. That was a good trigger to pull. Yet I have never been the type to have my heart overrule my head so easily. I have the solace of knowing that she'll be okay. I am also aware that this is a door that's opened. One that has led me straight to you. The opening is a tiny beam of light, a main event at a Challenge. NON TITLE!"
A shrug.
"I'll take it. I'd rather make love but I shall gladly make war. Who am I to ignore the battle cry of the girl who wanted to be god?
From the moment you've stepped into a 3GW ring, your main goal was to snatch the spotlight and rub it into the faces of fair weather fans who will cheer anybody that does even remotely well. Now you have it. Already I can't help but think...for how long As much as you want to delude yourself that you're going to keep that Paramount title forever, it's simply not possible. As long as there's some of us little people around, there is always going to be somebody nipping at your heels. You will get tired. You will slip. You will make a mistake that you cannot recover from. And on that day, somebody's going to be that much more hungrier than you are.
I cannot take away your accomplishments, Cindy. That'd be a disservice. I can't take that title. But I can settle for ripping out the hearts of every follower you've got and snagging a pound of your flesh for vengeance."
The motor's shut off, destination unknown.
"I can settle for the win. For now."
