“You really found someone?” Peaches asks as she tongues the inside of her cheek, rolling it around in silent contemplation. A soft sigh escapes her lips before she continues. “Well I’ll be damned, turns out there is someone willin’ to team with you. Turns out you’ve got friends, an’ I ain’t gonna lie, Jae, I’m surprised you managed to pull it off…”
Peaches shrugs her shoulders, unable to think of any other reaction to the news that Jaelynn Ramsey found a tag team partner for their match at Showdown In The Sun. She’s standing in a locker room, as evident by the blue metallic lockers behind her, and is wearing one of Dom Harter’s ‘Still Better Than Trump’ tees – and no Corona in sight this week! “An’ now I gotta get goin’, preparin’ for the unknown I guess.”
“An’ that’s tougher than it sounds. You tell me I’ve gotta get ready to face someone like Susan or Macy, then I know what I’m getting’ into. Tell me I’ve gotta face Reventon an’ I can plan some tactics, what I’m gonna do when I get to the ring. But you…” she points to the camera and shakes her head, “…you’ve got me goin’ in blind. I dunno if I’m getting’ ready for a high flyer, a technician, a brawler, whatever kinda strong style en vogue at the moment. I don’t even know if I’m facin’ a guy or a girl!” Peaches throws her arm out to either side.
“An’ you’re probably lovin’ that, ain’t ya?” Peaches speaks slowly, softly, and directly to the camera. “You get to watch me squirm over here, an’ that’s probably a welcome change for you. ‘Cause for the last coupla weeks it’s been you who’s been squirmin’. Worryin’ ‘bout what’s comin’ up an’ who’s gonna pull your chestnuts out the fire. But I gotta wonder what kinda person would wanna help you, Jae...”
“Some rookie desperately needin’ their big break? You promise them a match at a 3GW Supercard an’ they got stars in their eyes, right?” Peaches pauses again, sighing gently as she continues.
“Some retired wrestler wantin’ another crack at things? One last hurrah, so they can try and retire on their own terms an’ not how they went out last time…” she shakes her head, “…they never end how you want.”
“Probably some youngster who idolizes you, right? Who’ll do anythin’ to try an’ win your favor. Who’ll do anythin’ to try an’ impress you. An’ I’m kinda hopin’ for that one, Jae…”
“Not ‘cause it’ll be the easiest out the bunch.”
“But ‘cause then I’d be right. That whoever wants to be on your team has gotta be the dumbest bastard I’ve ever met. That they’ve gotta have a screw loose up there–” she taps her head, “–it’s just a case of how dumb they’re gonna be. Dumber than a box of rocks? Are they a few beers short of a six pack? A few fries short of a happy meal?”
“Guess I’ll find out soon enough. Just over a week to go. A weeks to get ready for whatever you’re gonna throw at me. An’ I’ll do what I do an’ get ready for a match against the toughest son of a bitch imaginable, just in case. Then when you trot out some dumbass ready to try an’ impress you, I’ll be waitin’. An’ then you can see what’s gonna happen to you at Showdown In The Sun.” Peaches states, before walking away as the scene comes to an end.
