"Over the last two FGA shows, I've battled the undisputed number one contender for the Pride Championship, Evan Envi, and had my hand raised after the official called for the bell. Coincidence? I think not..."
"The Chris Madison that stands before you today has improved by leaps and bounds compared to the Chris Madison from two years ago. I've never been in better shape, I've never been more focused; if you don't believe me, just ask Evan Envi. Twice he has underestimated me. Twice he has confidently walked through that curtain and expected to be the better man; much like he was three years ago when we crossed paths in APW. Twice he was disappointed..."
"My first run in FGA was abysmal."
"It'd be easy to compare now from then and point a finger at the missing piece, but Tommy Knox is like a brother to me. May not always see eye to eye but I'd never put blame on him. All of our shortcomings as a tag team, I was at just as much fault for as he was. But this second coming, it's been just about as good as planned."
"Only once have I been beaten so far. Annie Zellor dug down and did what it took to beat me. Legal or not, she took advantage of a situation which put her in a better position for the FGA World Championship. In fact, she's the only one that's beaten me in singles competition in FGA! The first time around, I stumbled, but a majority of that was in tag team action."
"Granted, it's not necessarily a who's who list of names that I've competed against, but I've made the most of what's been given to me. Pierre J. Harris, Nico Touza, and Rick Young have all had forgettable careers in FGA, but in this business you don't get to pick your opponents. On any given night, I'd much rather be locking it up with the likes of Annie Zellor or Evan Envi. I'm starting to think the that the higher ups may just need a little more convincing!"
"At Final Frontier, Ryan LeCavalier and I are going to get an opportunity to showcase what we're capable of. What kind of match? That's yet to be decided. Frustrated by her own inconsistencies, she's looked elsewhere for excuses, and for some reason, she's gravitated towards me. After seventeen years in this business, I've done it all, and I've seen it all. I know what it's like to just flounder in a company you thought you'd excel in. It's a tough situation to be in and ultimately she's going to need to make a decision: lower your head and grind forward or pack it up and move along."
"The problem is that I'm not the kind of guy you use to rebound and get yourself into a better position. I'm a nightmare; especially for someone like Ryan LeCavalier."
"This match at Final Frontier means just as much to me as it does her. I can't establish myself as a legitimate player in FGA if I'm dropping showcase matches. You better believe that I'm looking at my match against Kyle Ohio and licking my lips. If I can beat him, quicker than Ryan can beat Danny Diamond, she'll be stuck having to face me in whatever type of match I want. The risk is the same for me if she disposes of Diamond quicker than I annihilate Ohio. Unfortunately for them, they've become pawns in this game of chess. There's too much at stake to even get in that ring and toy with them. I don't know about her, but I'm marching to that ring and going straight for the jugular!"
"Having that advantage at Final Frontier, being able to chose the match stipulation, is huge! It tilts the playing field in your favor. A leg up on the competition is hard to pass up on. Even if it means taking Kyle Ohio's career away from him..."
"You really want me to put together some video on Kyle Ohio for you," Nick Madison asked as he sat back in an office chair that was behind the front desk at the Warehouse.
Chris leaned forward, pressing his forearms down on the tabletop, reiterating his request. "I know I didn't stutter. Whatever you can find on the guy, put together for me," he ordered.
Nick chuckled as he rolled his eyes. "You don't need video on this guy. All you need to do is show up! It's amazing that someone in those offices saw enough potential in him to offer up a contract. I'm sure the scout that recommended him has been relegated to writing dirt sheets for some two-bit wrestling rumors website," he scoffed.
"Still, regardless of this string of bad luck that he's had," Chris started to reason.
"Stop! Bad luck? This guy is horrible! You don't have to play nice Chris. They guy doesn't deserve to be in the same ring as you, let alone a FGA ring. He's an embarrassment to the sport," Nick frustratingly bawled. "Bad luck, humph."
Chris looked down with disappointment, not having to utter a sound. Nick bowed his head momentarily, already fully aware of what was coming his way. "If anyone understands the premise that anything can happen on any given night it's you," he said, instantly striking a nerve with his younger brother.
"I'm fully aware that my career was taking away from me. I don't need a constant fucking reminder," Nick shouted.
"You're the one sitting here and dismissing Kyle Ohio. Just saying, thought you would have learned your lesson years ago," he persisted.
Nick gritted his teeth, wanting to lash out but knowing that Chris wasn't wrong. "I lost out on a career in this business not because I took someone lightly, but because that someone had no business ever being inside a ring," he said.
"And that's exactly what you're telling me about Kyle Ohio. I know on paper this is a massacre. But one slip up is all it takes. At this point in my career, the next time I'm put on the shelf, it'll more than likely be for good. I'm thirty-seven years old, and I've been at this longer than most. I'm a dinosaur that survived the ice age. Throughout all of those years, I've seen crazier things happen," Chris explained.
The sudden opening of the front door grabbed the attention of both Madison brothers. None of the students were due in for close to an hour and Frankie Morrison was tucked away in his built in office, perched above the training facility. A young man walked in, nervously standing a step into the facility with a duffle bag in his hand.
"Can we help you," Nick asked as he rose to his feet.
The young man cleared his throat as he stepped forward. "I just moved out here and was looking for a place to continue my wrestling training. Was hoping I could sign up with you guys," he explained.
Nick made eye contact with Chris as he nodded his head. "Alright, let me show you around real quick and then I've got some paper work for you to fill out," he instructed as he slowly a began to walk away from the front desk. He waved the young man on to follow him and they made their way to the rest of the facility.
Passing them, Frankie Morrison strolled towards his client. The potential new student glanced at Morrison, looking him up and down from head to toe as they were shoulder to shoulder. Morrison laughed it off and patted Madison on the back. "See we got some fresh blood for you to annihilate," he joked.
"Something like that," he uttered. "Not too sure about this guy. I don't know, just some gut feeling. He seemed to like you though."
"What can I say, I'm a pretty likable guy," Morrison blurted out. "Did you catch the kids name?"
"No. I let Nick deal with these kids when they come through the door. A majority of them can't cut it and flake out after just a few weeks. No need to get to know them if they're not here to take this training seriously," Chris clarified.
"I'm glad to see you're at least in the right state of mind. You've got a busy month ahead of you: Kyle Ohio in this beat the clock challenge, Ryan LeCavalier at Final Frontier, and then Memphis Pro Wrestling's Beast of Beale Street Tournament," Frankie rattled off, reminding his client of his upcoming schedule.
"Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Right now, my only focus is Kyle Ohio and beating him faster than Ryan can beat Danny Diamond," he announced.
"Which I have all the confidence in the world that you'll be able to accomplish. Ryan hasn't really shined during her FGA tenure. I don't even think its a foregone conclusion that she'll escape with the win," Frankie declared.
"I honestly don't know who's worse; you or Nick," Chris sighed. "Who's to say that it's a foregone conclusion that I beat Kyle Ohio. No one seems to be giving this kid an ounce of credit, and to be perfectly honest, I find it a bit aggravating. This kid is blatantly disrespected over and over again. At some point in this kids career he was impressive enough to get get himself a FGA contract. Somewhere inside, there's a gifted wrestler just waiting to be unleashed. All it's going to take is for some asshole to climb into that ring with him, overconfident as fuck, and he'll shock the world. I don't plan on letting that be me," Chris ranted, catching his manager off guard.
"Hey, if you want to spend your days training for this match against Kyle like its world title match, that's on you. Just don't forget what's to follow," Frankie advised.
"Still have to get through Vertigo first," Chris snickered.
Frankie shook his head and smirked at Chris's stubbornness. "Well IF, you manage to squeeze out a win over Kyle, have you put any thought into what kind of match you want for Final Frontier," he inquired.
"Didn't need to put any thought into it. Knew immediately what type of match I want it to be. I just ain't saying a word though; at least not until I can get through," Chris was in the middle of saying.
"Kyle Ohio," he interrupted. "Okay, I get it. The only thing that matters is winning this match at Vertigo."
"Good. Now that we're on the same page you can stop bombarding me with Ryan LeCavalier, Final Frontier, and the Beast of Beale Street Tournament. One step at a time Frankie, one step at a time," Chris grinned.
"If you spoke to people affiliated with FGA about my upcoming match at Vertigo you'd get the impression that I have already won the thing. The name Kyle Ohio doesn't strike fear into the hearts of anyone; it draws laughter."
Chris shook his head, sitting in the driver seat of his blacked out Chevy Avalanche. He reached up behind his head and scratched at the short, stubbly hair.
"No one breaks into this business look to be in the position you're in Kyle. You don't blow money on wrestling school, grind out the Indy scene driving from town to town on fumes with only change in your pocket just to be the running joke of a company. I don't care how much you love this business, your pride can't take the constant abuse without forcing you to question the decisions you've made up until this point."
"Yet here you go out are; FGA's running punchline coming back for another brutal shot to that already bruised ego."
"Along the way you haven't even really faced the who's who of competition. LJ Summers, Courtney Leinart, Kevin Keller; the only person of any kind of merit that you've had to face is Kevin Hardaway. That four way match you were supposed to be in never took place because Johnny Cannon came out and demolished you, Mark Storm, and Armageddon. Your résumé has done nothing but shown that you don't belong in FGA."
"Yet here you are..."
"You would think twenty years in this business and a genius IQ score, you'd be smart enough to see the writing on the wall. Whatever success you've found in your career is being smeared by this constant failure."
"I hope you don't go into this match we have, expecting it to be a huge turnaround for you. I've got too much riding on this match to slip up and hand you a victory. Right now you and Danny Diamon play an intricate roll in this budding rivalry I have with Ryan LeCavalier. She wanted a match at Final Frontier. She wanted to raise the stakes and put together a wager with the match stipulation on the line. Feeding into my competitive nature, she knew I wouldn't pass up the opportunity."
"The FGA committee sacrificed you and Danny Diamond for this beat the clock challenge. Not only am I competing against you at Vertigo. Indirectly, I'm up against Ryan as well. She's got something to prove. Unlike you, she's got the hunger to actually try and better her self perceived standing in this company. I know she's coming out swinging. And to be perfectly honest, I feel bad for Danny Diamond. Ryan wanted this match against me; I'm certain she'll do anything it takes to have the say when it comes to the type of match."
"Despite the illusion of this match being a walk in the park, I'm coming to Vertigo prepared for a war. Not because of who my opponent is, but because of the stakes in this match. I get the sense that Ryan LeCavalier may be willing to do anything to get the leg up on me. ANYTHING."
"Something she'll learn, just like everyone else has been learning about me; I'm always ready for war!"
"The Chris Madison that stands before you today has improved by leaps and bounds compared to the Chris Madison from two years ago.
