“Back to business,” Lukas Gold states as he claps his hands together in excitement, “After that disappointment in my last match getting’ cancelled – an’ get well soon, Mac! But it’s time for me to get back in the ring. An’ there ain’t no better feelin’ than bein’ in that ring, especially with Layla by my side.”
He’s standing for this promo, in front of his magnolia coloured wall, dressed in his chino shorts and floral print vest. His hair unstyled, loosely tussled and all over the place, and the stubble on his jaw is a couple of days old. But Lukas Gold looks ready. “An’ I ain’t gonna stand here an’ bitch an’ moan ‘bout us not bein’ in the rumble. ‘Bout us not havin’ a shot at the Paramount Champion, ‘cause that ain’t why we came here. That belt ain’t why me an’ Layla signed to 3GW.”
“But Saturday night this company ain’t just crownin’ a new Paramount Champion, it’s crownin’ the first ever,” he stresses those words by jabbing his finger at the camera, “3GW Tag Team Champions! An’ that right there is why me an’ Layla signed those contracts. That’s what we’ve been workin’ for all these months. From the night we debuted an’ beat Rab an’ Marissa–” he gets her name wrong by accident, “–to the weeks of facin’ the members of The Bueno Club. Until now…”
“‘Cause we all remember what happened in those singles matches, but I’m gonna go out an’ say they ain’t mean a damn thing right now. This Saturday night ain’t ‘bout singles matches – it’s tag team time! An’ that right there is where we got the advantage. Me an’ Layla are nothing if not a team. We’re the definition of a team, inside an’ outside the ring; I said the other week that she’s the ying to my yan,” he gets that wrong again, “an’ I stand by that. That woman completes me, an’ without her I ain’t nothin’.”
“An’ that’s what makes that bond in the Gold Star Connection stronger than anything you’ve got. That’s what makes us a tag team, an’ not just two singles wrestlers who couldn’t cut it…” Lukas pauses, “…well one singles wrestler who couldn’t cut it an’ Malo. Although even he might need a new place to try an’ succeed in…” Lukas shrugs his shoulders and smirks, as he alludes to the demise of Boardwalk Wrestling, “…good thing you’ve got a back up plan though, amigo. It’s just a shame that plan ain’t gonna come to fruition or whatever.”
“It’s just a shame that despite you beatin’ me, and you beatin’ Layla, in singles action. It ain’t gonna mean a damn thing when we show you why The Gold Star Connection were champions back in West Virginia. Why we got to wrestle in Ohio an’ Kentucky. It’s why our names are gonna be in the lips of every fan in LA on Saturday night. ‘Cause we’re gonna bring tag team wrestlin’ to the forefront of 3GW. We ain’t the remnants of LDFC like you, an’ that ain’t a bad thing. I liked what all you guys did down in North Carolina – came this close to joining you…” he lies, but holds his fingers just inches apart, “…but you guys had the Brute Camp to beat you. An’ that Baroness an’ Keegan to whip your asses.”
“Now you got us.” He boasts.
“To pick up where they left off. To make sure the Bueno Club don’t become tag champions, to make sure the Bueno Club don’t reach the pinnacle of tag team wrestlin’ in this company. To make sure the Bueno Club don’t get any more gold…” Lukas pauses for a second, running a hand down his stubbled jaw as he thinks of what to say next, “…’cause these two kids from Charleston have a dream. Me an’ Layla wanna be champions out here on the West coast. So that’s we’re gonna do. An’ maybe she can call it an early Christmas present when I help her win these belts…” Lukas winks at the camera, “…but it ain’t personal Pedro. Malo. We don’t hate you or nothin’, but it’s business. Serious business. An’ after all this time, we ain’t walkin’ away from this empty handed. So come ready to fight, ‘cause the Gold Star Connection are comin’ for those tag titles, an’ you ain’t gonna stop us.” He says, exasperatedly, as the scene comes to an end.
