Layla Star sat on the edge of her bed sipping Coca-Cola from a glass bottle. After a rather large satisfying gulp, she wiped her mouth and exhaled, sitting the bottle down, addressing the camera.
“You know what, it’s that time of year. The time of year I drink a lot of bottled Cokes. And why is that? It’s all those darn cutesy commercials with the polar bears and Santa and the like on TV drinking all those ice-cold refreshing drinks. Not out of a can, but out of a glass bottle; the classic American way, a Christmas tradition. But today when I went down to the store, you know what they call these now? Mexican Coke; when I was growing up in West Virginia that had a whole other definition, and very illegal. At first I was confused, but then Lukas told me, since he’s so smart that they call all this Mexican Coke now because most of the bottled Coca-Cola is bottled in Mexico now and they use real cane sugar. No wonder the darn things taste so much better than out of the can! Real sugar out of a cold glass bottle, that’s the way. Never crossed my mind that Christmas would be that much associated with Mexico… but then again Lukas also reminded me of that song Feliz Navidad, and I was like, duh… of course.”
She swatted her forehead comically, shaking her head before taking another drink. She then pointed the bottle toward the camera.
“But Lukas and I have a big match at the Red Carpet Rumble, on that second night. All of our hard work and effort in facing off against all our foes has led us to this very moment… a shot at becoming the inaugural 3GW Tag Team Champions! Just as a holiday tradition has become more closely related to Mexico in recent times, I’m gonna have to be selfish about this and hope that the first 3GW Tag Champs aren’t the ones associated with Mexico! Now now, hear me out… I’m not going on a Becker Gaines-styled rant here. Pedro Gonzalez and El Grande Malo are pretty good folks, all things considered. Lukas and I have been tussling with them in one form or another pretty much ever since we got here. But this match here, it’s the big one. It’s that initial shot to be the face of the 3GW Tag Team division. And personally I’ve always dreamed of being in a superstar tag team with the love of my life. Because there’s no team in 3GW and most of the wrestling world in general that know themselves and their partner’s tendencies like Lukas and I do. We’ve been with each other every day for years, in and out of the ring. We’ve seen each other through so much good and bad, the ups and downs of life both domestically and inside a wrestling ring.”
She smiled and closed her eyes, before shrugging and tapping the Coke bottle on her chin a moment pausing.
“We are the youthful energy that 3GW needs, a wholly fresh face and skillset in the tag ranks. If the Bueno Club were to win, people’s impression would be that the Lion’s Den holdovers finally made good. Lukas and I are not saddled with that history, we aren’t tethered in people’s minds to a developmental organization that ceased operation, and in doing so became the much bigger glitzy entity that you see now. Lukas and I were too big for West Virginia, we’ve been teaming so long we don’t need any polish in a developmental. We’re ready for the big stage, the spotlight. We want the cameras focused on us as the top team here. I’m really not being arrogant, I just feel like we’re better than Pedro and Malo, and any other team that walks in the door. We want to be on the highest level that this company has to offer, and the Tag Team Championship in hand would be that validation of what Lukas and I already believe of ourselves. Something the fans can appreciate and revel in with us, you know? I know that the Bueno Club wants this victory very badly, but I think Lukas and I are going to win. I’m confident. To put it in perspective and get what I’m saying to fall in line with the reason for the season… the top of the tag division in 3GW are the champs, and the top of the Christmas tree usually has what there? A bright, shining gold star; and the Gold Star Connection is going on top of the tree at the Red Carpet Rumble. If Bueno Club doesn’t like it, I say to them… have a Coke and a smile and Bye Felicia Navidad.”
