Days after Thursday Night Challenge 4, Jaelynn was relieved to see that her check cleared within a reasonable time frame. She was looking forward to adding more funds in her savings account. Although the increments were not high (a few dollars short of hitting triple digits,) she was in better shape now as opposed to previous months.
It was around noon when the young blonde exited a bank several blocks from her apartment. She is holding the ATM receipt up close, with her eyes glued on the available amount: $815.77.
“That would barely cover the cost of those useless textbooks,” she says under her breath.
Still, this is what Jaelynn wants for her younger sister. Completing a lengthy research paper on time, reading four chapters in one sitting, those are the “problems” she’d want for Audrielle, instead of worrying about finances. She crumbles the receipt, tossing it in a nearby trash bin, continuing with her day.
Coming from a lifestyle that taught limitations and conformity, she had her “kid in a candy store” moments for things most people in her age group took for granted in a predominant “left” state. On her way back to her apartment, a silver Honda Civic pulls over to the side. Jaelynn recognizes the person sitting on the passenger side. A slim woman with thick curly hair, caramel skin, and almond shaped eyes steps out of the vehicle in casual attire. Without hesitation she greets Jaelynn with a hug. The blonde reluctantly reciprocates the gesture, looking at the driver’s side with curiosity.
“Jae! I was on the verge of giving up on your ass! You became a stranger. Did I do something wrong?” she inquires, taking note of Jaelynn’s brightly colored workout clothes and matching sneakers.
She shakes her head “no,” saying, “you did no such thing. I have a new gig that’s been taking up all of my free time.”
“And what would this new gig entail to? You know how jealous Will gets with his talent…”
“Former talent, Stephy. He doesn’t own me, and you don’t have to think he owns you either,” she retorts, disregarding her question.
“Touchy. So what’s got you staying trim?”
Jae bites her bottom lip before responding with: “Don’t laugh,” she pauses, raising her index finger to her lips, then lowers it to continue responding. “...I’ve been wrestling for a local promotion, a legit one.”
Instructing someone not to laugh never seems to go over well, as Jaelynn realized at her expense. Stephy looks away, grinning while fighting off the urge to burst out in a fit of laughter.
“No disrespect. You’re hot, and totally fit, it’s just I didn’t picture you doing something like this. You need to have hella discipline and be a morning person for workouts. How’d you deal with the transition?”
“It’s a battle. Some days I feel as though I’m living the dream, and then there’s days I want to say ‘fuck it,’ and go back to being a shot girl.”
Stephy nods, thinking she’s getting somewhere with her friend. “Now that you mention it, an offer stands for you to come back whenever you miss being a night owl…”
“That’s comforting.”
Paging The 3GW Loyal...
“It’s absurd that I have not been in action since the beginning of November. Right when things were starting to click, my momentum comes to a halt. An unsettling feeling comes across, as I recall several ‘veterans’ telling me some promotions do not make it past three months. Their dreams and aspirations are shattered, because of poor business practices and or lack of interest in the roster. Even with the likes of Pedro Gonzalez and Peaches, 3GW doesn’t appear to be ‘those places’ many would rather sweep under the rug after the doors are shut.
Jaelynn Ramsey enters the picture again. I have more to prove, more stripes to earn as I right the wrongs the company did in stacking up their chips for that ugly redhead, Ash Scion. But hey, I completely understand. Someone was lazy. Someone relied on a name and nothing else. The Red Carpet Rumble will help you realize what you have been neglecting all along.
But first, Susan Kent. For those that manage their time accordingly, they will have the pleasure of seeing me continue the work I did not complete weeks ago, because Macy concluded the bout then and there. Susie’s California dreaming on a twin mattress without sheets, and I am ready to pull her from underneath. Our experience level may mirror one another, however, who's the one that will do whatever it takes to come out on top? It's not going to be the little pushover with the heart of a bathtime rubber ducky. It doesn’t work like that, Susan. Just wait and see…”
