3GW's resident ace reporter Amanda Johnson stands on the rooftop of a building in Los Angeles, looking around while wearing what appears to be a mixture of regret and confusion on her visage. With a light sigh, she checks her watch, not noticing a figure on the next rooftop over growing closer and closer. The figure leaps the distance between the two roofs, landing with cat-like grace before they sprint over, revealing themselves to be Gabi Beltran. Pulling to a standstill beside Amanda, she brushes a couple of stray hairs aside, greeting her with a, "Sup."
"Hi Gabi, thanks for agreeing to speak with me ," a beat passes, "Here on this roof."
"Yeah, couldn't just go meeting out in the open; all sorts of freaks out there."
"Mmmhmm, so tell me a bit about your mindset heading into your debut match against Jenny Knite."
Cracking her neck, Gabi flatly replies, "She's tough, not sure if I can trust her though. Still getting the lay of the land around this place, investigating who I can trust and who's on the level -- that rumble's coming up, should be a good chance to do that."
Johnson quirks a brow, "Why join a company you find so suspicious?"
"It's totally normal to want to learn about a new job," comes the response, tinged with a hint of defensiveness.
Amanda holds her hands out to calm her down, before asking, "Is that why you were looking for Fallen Angel last Challenge?"
"Yeah, he gave me bad vibes, the whole super melodramatic, dark over the top thing. No actual person acts like that, this is real life not a deleted scene from The Crow, what was he hiding? I think that's why he ran aw -- MOVE!" She shoves Amanda aside, out of the path of an oncoming Asian man clad in black, before taking the assailant over with a high speed toss. Pinning him down with a combination hammerlock and boot to the back of the head, while muttering, "Emblem of the Black Lotus on his cufflinks, that can only mean one thing ..." her eyes narrow, "Hideo Nakajima's crew is back in town." A hint of a grin tugs at her lips, "Well then, tell Hideo that La Oveja Negra sends her regards." After delivering a swift kick to the man's ribs that causes him to cry out in pain, she pulls Amanda up, "Yo, you okay."
She blinks in response, "Um, I uh ... think?"
"Good, anyways like I was saying, I'm just looking for day to day behavior that seems out of the ordinary. This Knite, I've been watching her. Looks like she shook the rust off her second time out. She's a respectable fighter, she's tough, but something doesn't add up with her. Former associate of Evan Envi -- and she acted different back then -- now she's buddying with another career crook Dom Harter, even though he allegedly roofied her. It doesn't make sense and a neck injury probably takes like a year, yeah and a half to recover from, I don't know what she was doing in those other months. Did Harter get to her? Were they faking the beef all along, playing the long game? Who knows if the beef with this Ava character is real, it's too early to tell. Maybe she really is on the level I don't know," an overly dramatic pause follows, "But if she is hiding something, rest assured I will find out. Because if I've learned one thing over the years, Amanda, it's that pain is the ultimate lie detector test."
Observing Gabi as she cracks her knuckles, the flustered interviewer asks, "Should we uh, should we do something about that guy on the ground? Call the cops?"
A light disdainful chuckle, "Don't worry about him, he got the message."
"Well okay then, thanks for agreeing to speak with me again. We'll see what happens on Thursday as you make your debut against the decorated veteran Jenny Kni --"
She's cut off, Beltran locking a steely gaze upon her, "That ... we will." Without another word, she darts off in the direction from which she came, leaping back onto the roof of the building next door before disappearing out of sight.
