Life is a winking light in the darkness

Several minutes after his match against Becker Gaines, we catch up with Shintaro Majima as he sits in his locker room, dripping sweat on the floor and looking utterly dejected that the 15 Championship has passed from his grasp into Becker Gaines' greedy hands
I am sure that Jordan Cain is feeling happy that “his” champion will walk out of this arena with the championship that was around my waist but half an hour ago. He has a champion that he believes is a star, in spite of all evidence to the contrary, and I do not doubt that Jordan Cain was patiently waiting for Gaines’ return with a bottle of champagne ready and waiting.
Yet did I see Jordan Cain waiting for me as I returned backstage? Did I see an offer of an extended hand, or hear congratulations for dragging a fine match out of an opponent incapable of taking part in one if they tried? Rather than answer, Majima reaches back to untie his hair and allows it to fall around his shoulders, before reaching back to shake his hair into shape, I did not, and this does not surprise me.
Brushing the hair out of his eyes, also allowing him to wipe the sweat from his brow, Majima continues No matter how much he wishes to claim otherwise, Becker Gaines did not achieve the fifteen minutes of fame he craves so desperately. What he achieved was fifteen minutes of infamy, not by drunkenly offending an entire race like so many who cannot accept their time has long passed, but by stealing something that does not belong to him.
He may believe that is something to celebrate, yet he fails to understand the difference between taking something and earning it. One gives you vindication for all that you have done, the other gives you an obnoxious sense of entitlement as you feel the world owed you what you now hold, Majima pauses to catch his breath, He also fails to understand that he has made a very powerful enemy. But he will discover his mistake sooner than he thought possible.
We catch up with Majima as he prepares for his rematch against Gaines - and he looks pissed…
Did nobody tell Becker Gaines that actions such as his will always have consequences? Any man, woman or child that has pride within their chest will not stand for having someone take them for a fool, meaning that if you steal from them they will expect you to be punished for it. Some expect the authorities to do this on their behalf, but in cases such as Becker Gaines taking justice into one’s own hands is far more effective.
Pausing for just a moment, Majima appears to be picturing the moment where he gets his hands on Gaines – and he seems to like what he’s picturing in his mind, For all his talk of having his fifteen minutes of fame, rather than the fifteen minutes of infamy he was responsible for, it did not occur to Becker Gaines that those fifteen minutes will come to an end, and when they end he will be left with nothing. Yet I am not interested in ending his fifteen minutes, I am interested in ending him.
It is one thing to punish a thief for his actions, but that does not interest me. What I wish to do is to leave a permanent reminder of what he had done and the consequences of those actions, not just to make him think twice in future but to serve as a warning to everyone on the roster. Majima taps a couple of fingers in the palm of his other hand as he considers his future deeds, The traditional punishment for theft the criminal being subjected to fifty or even a hundred lashes, each lash leaving a permanent mark upon the criminal’s flesh, each scar inflicted in full view of the public.
Does this not sound like the perfect punishment for Becker Gaines? To have his flesh permanently marked to remind him that he is a criminal and was punished accordingly? I do not even need to bring a whip to the ring, Majima pats the back of one hand into the palm of the other, as I already have the necessary tools to perform this necessary evil.
I am setting myself a goal: one hundred strikes, each as fierce as the last, each forever marking the flesh of Becker Gaines. When I have finished this task he will be on his knees offering to return the 15 Championship to me, but rather than accept this offering I will deliver the decisive blow to reclaim what I should not have lost and end Becker Gaines.
