What Moves Me

With two losses already on her record, Jaelynn wasn’t feeling too great about herself. The amount of missed calls and unanswered texts were adding up in her phone, not wanting to socialize or speak to anyone. She gave Randy less sass and instead took her training seriously, thinking about what she can do once she catches a break. There were few things that helped her move forward as opposed to offing herself, or “pulling the plug” on everything,
After completing a workout at “Randy’s School of Wrestling,” Jaelynn walks to a juice and smoothie shop for a post workout protein shake, also counting as her dinner. As she sips on the chocolate flavored shake, she takes her phone out of her backpack, and opens up her messages. For the most part, many were deleted or simply kept at “read,” except for one from an “Audrielle.” The green heart emoji next to her name suggests that she was important to the 3GW wrestler. Jaelynn opens up the thread, and reads the last message to herself:
“Sis, I hope you’re ok. I’ve been watching your matches & I’m proud of you. Soon it will all pay off. Trust meee! <3 “
An amused expression forms on her face, since she read the message in her sister’s voice, which squeaked when she was excited. She takes another sip of her shake before sending out a response.
“It has to! I want to get you over here as soon as I can afford it. I’m hoping you consider applying to some of the schools in NoCal.”
She lets the phone screen lock before placing it back in the small compartment of her backpack. She then tosses the empty cup in a trash bin, and walks towards the nearest bus stop.
About a half hour later, Jaelynn has made it to her home. Rap music can be heard blasting through bass speakers in one of the nearby apartments. Having the place to herself, she decides to check in with the 3GW community via a livestream service. Her phone is set across from her on a faux marble breakfast bar in the kitchen. Behind her, one can see the living room setup, consisting of a worn out couch, an ottoman, and an off-brand 24 inch flat panel television sitting on a small end table against the wall.
Jaelynn pushes the red button, initiating the stream.
“I've had enough time to think things through since my last appearance, and it hasn't been easy accepting the truth. The little runt Pedro managed to come out on top at Thursday Night Challenge 2, clearly showing how ‘new’ I am to all of this. He turned things around, using proper defense combined with quick reactions like any experienced wrestler would. Let me tell you it’s not going to be like that much longer. I’ve experienced culture shock when I arrived to Oakland two years ago, and Mary Poppins wasn’t waiting for me at the bus terminal with a welcome sign and flowers. I had to learn things on the fly, and assimilate or I’d end up dead in some alleyway.
This is not my attempt at making you feel sympathy for me.
Susan Kent may take the ‘woe is me’ route at her leisure, until she realizes nobody genuinely cares. People die every day, and I’ve taken notice deceased parents or missing parental figures are common for many in this business. What gives? Anyway, I am here to compete on a physical level, and have no intention to outdo anyone with sob stories. Do I look as though I’m trying to sit around a campfire at the Redwood Forest? Maybe if I’m Peaches, pfft.”
She rolls her eyes at the mention of her first opponent.
“Seems like my partner Macy isn’t too crazy about Georgia’s sweetheart, either. I think we’ve found ourselves some common ground, and that right there is enough to make me work with someone that’s a practical stranger to me. I don’t know Macy personally, but I know enough about her SSWA accomplishments and of course what she’s done in 3GW to feel confident in getting the job done at Thursday Night Challenge. We don’t need to have medi-pedi’s before the match to form a bond as though we’re about to compete on a dance show. If some alliance or understanding comes out as a result, that’s fine and dandy by me as she doesn’t come off as an annoying or condescending goody goody.
Bless your heart for cleaning up, Peaches. We don’t need SAD (from Susan,) and SMELLY in the ring during our match. Leave that for after hours when you and your partner head backstage sulking. Our exchanges were cute before, but it’s about to get serious.”
Her eyes narrow as the stream ends.
