The parking lot of the Roy Williams Auditorium is near-empty, flyers and programs strewn out on the pavement signifying FGA’s presence was there not long ago. Empty cars, most likely the nightshift workers, are parked throughout. A green Jeep sits close to the entrance of the building, three figures inside. Three doors open and FGA’s recent signees, The Elysian Empire, step out. Emery Elysian, the eldest of the siblings has a satisfied grin on his face.
Emery Elysian: It’s been awhile since I’ve been to a show like Retribution, since I’ve seen such passion from not only the fans, but the competitors in the ring! That’s what being a professional wrestler is all about. Ya know, I thought about trying out for FGA years ago, but my schedule at the time just didn’t allow for it. Or maybe it just wasn’t meant to be at the time.
Elon Elysian, the youngest of the siblings, looks at his older brother, a frown upon his face.
Elon Elysian: I’ve never seen anything like it either… I mean it’s nothing like the amateurs, nothing like college. FGA… It’s the real deal isn’t it, Em?
Emery looks to his younger brother with a comforting smile that goes unrequited. Despite Elon’s hulking, imposing presence he’d always been a little fear-stricken when it came to competing. Emery understood full well why. Anyone who came from a family with a legacy in any business could understand why. Legacies weren’t easy to live up to. Nor was it easy to make your own name outside of it. Emery was about to speak when Effie Elysian, the second eldest, put a hand on Elon’s shoulder.
Effie Elysian: So are you, Lonnie. Both of you are. A company like FGA wouldn’t give you a contract if you weren’t.
Elon Elysian: They’d give Em a contract if he’d auditioned by himself. He’s just that good. Em could take on any of the wrestlers in this company.
Emery Elysian: So could you, Lonnie. And in time, you will. I can’t go on forever ya know. That’s why we have to make our time together count.
Effie Elysian: Jesus, Em! You make it sound as if you’re dying.
Elon shudders at the thought, but Emery just laughs.
Emery Elysian: Lonnie, take a look at this building. See how quiet it is right now? Now remember just how this place felt only a few hours ago. How alive and vibrant it was. How’d it feel to be a part of the crowd?
Elon: It felt good…Really good. I wanted to feel like that all the time.
Effie Elysian: And now you will. Only one day, it will be you making the crowd feel the way you felt. And that day is coming soon.
Emery Elysian: Really soon. We’ve already been tapped to compete on the next show. And we’re not going against some local enhancement talent either. We’ve got the Usual Suspects.
Elon jumped at the name.
Elon Elysian: You meant the guys that were just competing for the titles?! When did you find this out?! Why a team like them so soon?! We’re not ready! I’m not ready!
Effie sighs while Emery just laughs.
Effie Elysian: I guess I’ll try to answer that. *Ahem* Yes, those guys. Earlier when I went to talk to FGA management. ‘Cause that’s just how these thing go, Lonnie. And I’ll be damned if you’re not. You are an Elysian! It’s in your blood.
Emery Elysian: The same blood that will spill on the canvas if you don’t get your head in the game.
Effie Elysian: Emery!
Emery shrugs, his expression stoic.
Emery Elysian: It’s true and you know it, Effie. The Usual Suspects are no pushover team. No one in this sport is a pushover, Lonnie, and there’s no place for them. You either step up to the plate or someone else will. The Usual Suspects will. They didn’t get an opportunity to compete for the titles just because they asked for it. They earned it. They won their way to an opportunity and they almost left champions tonight. They’ll want to get back to their winning ways so that they can claim what they believe to be theirs. They won’t even look at us twice to do it.
Elon looks down at his feet, Emery’s words ringing through his head. Effie shakes her head at Emery, but he is unfazed.
Emery Elysian: We can’t rest on the laurels of our family. We have to earn our own. The only way we do that is buy paying our dues, stepping up when tapped to fight, and by believing that we’re worthy of our last name. Can you do that, Lonnie?
Elon nods his head.
Elon Elysian: Fine…
Emery raises an eyebrow.
Emery Elysian: Not good enough, Lonnie. I need you to look me in the eyes, and tell me that you believe that we can do this. Tell me that you believe we are good enough to compete against the Usual Suspects, that we’re good enough to beat them and any other team in FGA.
Elon looks up to his older brother. The fire in Emery’s eyes is unmissable. Elon nods his head.
Elon Elysian: Damn right!
Emery grins and puts his arm around his younger brother’s shoulder.
Emery Elysian: Damn right. Look at this building one more time, Lonnie. The next time we’re in a place like this, we’ll be the ones making fans happy, giving them hope. It’s an honor that is not to be taken for granted. It’s an honor that’s continually earned. Not just by winning, but by being someone that they look up to. By being who you are: an Elysian.
Elon nods as he looks at the Roy Williams Auditorium. The sound of a crowd chanting “Elysians. Elysians. Elysians” echoes in his head causing him to smile. Effie puts her arm around Elon’s waist as all three Elysian siblings stare at the auditorium. Elon looks from his brother, to his sister, and back to the auditorium.
Elon Elysian: We are Elysian.
