"Assholes have feelings too. The funny thing is if you act like an asshole, nobody else really cares about your feelings."
Same Pedro, same wardrobe (slacks and a Bueno Club shirt for you fashion whores out there), same stage, same spotlight.
"Sad, but true. I respect the feelings. I honor the feelings. I understand why the feelings are a thing. And truly, I feel bad for anybody that's lost a loved one. I also know that come fight time, Señor Thompson, you're going to try and punch my head off of my shoulders. Which means that I, in turn, have to stop giving any semblance of a shit about your grief in order to seize victory.
As a matter of fact, I might as well do it right now."
There’s a pause as he sits there for a moment staring above him. It lasts a few minutes until his tongue suddenly clicks along with something in his brain.
"The little that Ethan Thompson II said about the match and 3GW in general spoke volumes. And by volumes, we mean Generic Heel Phrases Vol. 6. "Don't hate me because I'm good looking." "Don't hate me because of my arm candy." "Don't hate me because I'M THE GREATEST." You all but said "Don't hate the player, hate the game". And all of this is wrapped up by saying that I'm good, but you're better."
El shrug.
"Prove it. Seriously. What is somebody supposed to say besides that? And furthermore, what actual proof do you have? You can hit things hard now?"
And in a rather uncharacteristic moment, the New Pride of Mexico twirls a finger around as if to say “whoop-de-doo”.
"I must admit. That whole thing with the pins wasn't the first time I was called annoying in some form or fashion. Nor would it be the last. In some small way, I like it like that! The only thing equal to ripping a man to shreds in a wrestling ring is driving said man crazy enough to force him to make his own mistakes. And let's face it, if I can get an easy pin out of the deal, I’m going to take it.
Not to mention a lot of people have said a lot of bullshit against me. Some have even pulled out the win. Yet more often than not, those that won had to fight like mad to get the victory and those that lost tended to eat a ton of crow if they weren't pouting in their little bubble with their girlfriends inflating their ego. Whether they inflated the ego with a penis pump..."
That thought lingers for a brief moment before he cringes.
“That’s why I do my very best not to be that dumbass that says I'm better. If I say I'm better and I lose, that makes me look pretty damn stupid. Which means if you lose, you look stupid. Like everybody, you'll try to shrug it off and say that it doesn't really matter. It will matter. It will matter because before the old man bit the dust, you were on a losing streak. The last thing you want to do, Señor, is bury him, begin anew in a new place, only to start another one!"
This minor rant make him stop for a moment as a tiny bit of shock appears and rapidly disappears from Pedro’s face. Perhaps he’s crossed a line. But he doesn’t want his opponent to feel like he can just prance right in thinking he could be the best.
Not while I’m still breathing…
“The truth is until one of our hands are raised, you don't know jack shit. We can glean insights via promos and past matches and pretty much anything else that we leave behind in the information age. Even with that, our perceptions and our assumptions are just that. The only way to determine who is better on a given night is to go out there and beat the hell out of each other.
We can talk about new beginnings until the cows come home. For all of the roster, 3GW is definitely that. A chance to reinvigorate yourself. A place to grow. To this place...to the city of Los Angeles, we come here with our hopes and dreams. We also come with our baggage. Most people like to pretend that their baggage doesn't exist. I plan on using mine to my advantage. It's...how'd you say it? Simple facts for simple minds?"
A beat.
"I'm truly sorry for your loss though."
Although he says the line as solemnly as he can, there's a gleam in his eye. Which part of that was he actually saying: the loss of the father or the loss of the match? We cannot ask and unfortunately, he won't tell.
