It’s official, June 30th was my last match in Lion’s Den FC. Personal problems and an ankle injury sadly prevented me from continuing my journey in that company. I had planned to make my triumph return to LDFC but due to a unforeseen closure I had to evaluate my options. Fortunately to my lucky stars, there was a glimmer of hope with 3GW - Glitz, Glamour & Glory Wrestling. The company was based in California, which meant I could finally leave North Carolina behind. Nothing wrong with North Carolina, but being a Cali Girl was more enticing with the sun, the beaches and my older brother residing there was convenient. The good thing about 3GW was that I wasn’t alone since quite a few of LDFC alumni signed on. I can’t complain about having quite a few familiar faces in the locker room again.
Now being in a new home, one thing I understood is that I couldn’t be the same old LDFC Mercy Williams. In 3GW I had to become something BETTER. My biggest fear was being left behind by my peers after taking my leave from wrestling. I had to look at every single angle of what direction I should take when I step back into that ring. I worked extra hard to get my body in peak wrestling form as well as expanding my wrestling moveset.
My wrestling mentor, Delta Madison was unfortunately struck down with a health issues. Since coming to California, I’ve been spending a lot more time with an unusual counterpart, Delta Madison’s cousin, Amiee Vaughan Widdel. Amiee is a former wrestler who is an actress. (she appeared in Cougar Hunters *cheap plug*) Amiee is a tenacious individual, so getting her input was something else. I must admit, she did open my eyes to many things in my career. She even allowed her husband, who is also a wrestler to give me some pointers. He’s dealing with a shoulder injury at the moment so it wasn't quite ‘hands on’. But nonetheless, some help is better than no help at all.
Reading the advertised card for the first 3GW Thursday Night Challenge was exciting to see. I missed that feeling of seeing my name written in the card, it made me feel giddy. My match was an 8-man tag team with a bunch of LDFC alumni in one match. My partners were no strangers to me, Jensen Banks, Echo Rigby and the last APEX Champion, Emily Carter. All three teammates were strong competitors and being in the same marquee was a big deal. On the other side of the spectrum are my opponents, Prince MacRear, Keegan Hightower, Terrence Tillman and Shintaro Majima. All four men were the baddest guys in LDFC who made my life hell at one point. Do I resent them? Not really, since nice guys usually finish last. You gotta do what you gotta do to get ahead in this business.
I arrived at the Center Stage Arena in Los Angeles California before showtime. I wore a black and white tartan long sleeve button down top tied at the bottom, with denim short shorts and brown cowboy boots. I proceeded to roll my suitcase behind as I walked through the carpark until a 3GW camera crew begun following me. An interviewer had a microphone in hand requesting to get a quick word with me.
“Mercy, Mercy, what’s going through your mind tonight for 3GW’s debut show tonight?”
I stopped walking, lifting up my yellow tinted rayban sunglasses to my head to answer the question.
“What’s going through my mind? Where do I even start?” I let out a light laugh. “I’m excited to be part of the show, I’m excited that it’s my return match after so many months away from the ring. All I can hope is that things go my way tonight. You guys better keep a close eye tonight because I’m not just here to be just the glamour around here.”
I slyly winked into the camera. “Believe me, what you’ve seen of Mercy so far was only the appetizer, it’s time I serve the main course. Speaking of food, do we have catering?”
The interviewer stuttered in confusion. “I-I think so.”
“Oh we better, I’m like starving.”
I huffed, whipping my hair away as I walked away from the interviewer without a second thought. All I could really think about was actually have a meal served to me rather not deal with nosey interviewers.
