There's a lot of buzz going on in the training center recently. And like most things in the modern world, it all started with a tweet.
Questions and rumors began to spread. Are some of us actually getting called up? If so, who? This only ended up being a big deal because outside of the occasional retweet, FGA barely seemed to notice LDFC. For a developmental fed, it only had one true "graduate" who was recently thrown in jail for scamming people out of their money. That's not the right type of legacy to have.
The gossip, the bullshit, Jessie Pendelton stringing people along as they question without giving any answers as to what is going on. Some of the roster are on pins and needles, waiting for a sign...
"After days and days of waiting for Príncipe's decision, I finally got my answer in the ring."
...as others resume business as usual. Pedro Gonzales sits with ZEEEEEERRRROOOOOh, wait. Gimmick infringement.
"Granted, a real leader wouldn't wait so long to give an answer. Maybe he was busy shining up his Carolina Cup. Watching back on the last Pride, I can say that I did everything exactly the way I wanted to. My moves were crisp, my reaction time was spot on, I kept Príncipe MacRear on his toes. The only way I could've done better is if I wore a cup."
You can hear knuckles rap on metal with modesty hiding where its coming from.
"Lesson learned.
But many wrestlers wouldn't be satisfied with trying bringing the house down. They always want something...more. Those that don't have championships want 'em. Those that have 'em want to keep them. Some people are gunning for a shot at the main roster. Professional wrestlers need a carrot to stimulate the competitive part of their heads and anybody who tells you otherwise is lying their asses off.
The sad thing about it is everything that they base their self-esteem and worth around can be taken away in an instant. One stray punch can shatter your face. One pinfall can take your title. An injury can force you out of the ring and out of the spotlight at any moment. By the time you get back, the world would've moved on."
El smirk.
"A scant few occasionally try to strive for perfection. Perfection is a myth. Anybody on planet earth who claims to be chasing after it is chasing a ghost. Those who claim to be it are deluding themselves. And as for the people who have another bellow it at the top of their lungs...well, that's just sad.
I understand why you have to claim yourself as such, Señor Bishop. You've spent all your life breaking out of situations that most said you couldn't. Because you're black, because you're poor, because you're not good enough. People always have a rapid fire reason to keep you down. Hell, they usually spend their time keeping everybody else down to feel batter about their lot in life.
In situations like that, building self confidence is key to survival so you can do the things you need to do. There's those who seem to be born with it and those who have to grow into that."
A nod.
"I understand the tactic. But I don't buy what you're selling.
'Why can't they see perfection when its hitting them in the face?' First of all, you're hitting them in the face. They're more concerned about fighting back than being in awe in whatever greatness you think you have. Secondly, your opponent sees the truth. You are just a man, Señor Bishop. Once we know that, there's no reason to fear at all.
And even if we were stupid enough not to see that, there's still no reason for me to be shaking in my boots at all. For a man to radiate as much confidence as you do every time you're on screen and...not even be the best--how did you say it?--young en, that must be painful. We only have to look against at last Pride. After all the flirting and all the bragging that you were going to pin her believe dat, Maritza Diaz got in the ring and whooped your ass."
Pedro's smile warms.
"Anybody can beat anybody at any given time. But I know enough about pride to know that every loss stings. I don't want the Miles Bishop who stares up at the lights and I'm pretty sure you don't want that Pedro Gonzales either. I want the guy who speaks in the camera with fire in his eyes to step up and fight me. I want the guy that feels that sting every time he's reminded of defeat. Because God knows, I'm bringing mine.
And if you can't bring that guy?
Stay home."
