Born and raised in Minneapolis, Matt became enamored with sports an early age. As a Gator, Bishop broke the school’s record for most sacks as he got to an opposing team’s quarterback 16 times in a season. His determination to get to the QB despite tremendous blocking from opposing linemen gained him the moniker “Lionheart” which stuck as his nickname. He was projected to be a 1st round pick but a knee injury he sustained during his senior year trumped his dreams of playing in the NFL. Despite that, Matt graduated from the UF with a degree in Sports Nutrition and upon moving back to his home state, he became a trainer. He became one of the most sought after trainer in Minnesota and his clients included some of the local wrestlers in the state. He fell in love with the sport and began training at the age of 25. He had his first match in 2010 and he became a staple in the Minnesota independent wrestling scene. After 6 years of cutting his teeth in smaller companies, Bishop is looking to expand his horizon as he makes his way to Frontier Grappling Arts Wrestling.
