It was all so vivid...
The multiple powerbombs against the apron...
The sickening thud every time his fist pounded against her flesh…
She could still hear the bathroom mirror breaking after Jimmy Page used her face to shatter it into pieces...
She could still feel his hot breath from when he was screaming in her face...
Today was the first time that Emily Carter had stepped inside the training facility since April 1st. This building was supposed to be a place of learning. But for her, it was the place where she was brutally assaulted. Emily had avoided this setting for the last month and a half and for good reason. The moment she stepped back into the building, the horrific realities of that evening came flooding back to her.
In this current era of wrestling - where people are wrestling for 3 and 4 companies at a time, flying on private jets, and achieving worldwide fame before they can even legally drink - it’s easy to take things for granted. But Emily knows first-hand just how precious these moments are. Her budding career was nearly snuffed out at the hands of a madman. Thankfully for her, he failed. Emily knows just how fortunate she is to be able to continue her passion. That’s why it’s imperative that she takes advantage of this upcoming opportunity at Pride… by becoming the new #1 Contender!
It’s been almost a year since I made my in-ring debut. If you were to tell me back then that I’d achieve this level of success, I wouldn’t have believed you. Yet here I am. I never had flunkies around me to do my dirty work. I was never supported by some worldwide apparel brand. I was never the head trainer’s favorite. And I’m far from a product of nepotism. If anything…
(Emily parts her hair and shows off the scar.)
...who I’m related to is actually a hinderance. I got to this point through hard work and dedication to my craft. I took everything that was thrown at me - the screwjobs, the 3-on-1 attacks… and overcame it all. I’ve grinded since day one to get to where I am today. And now, I’m just one match away from the ultimate goal...
As soon as this #1 Contender’s Match was made, I heard the petty remarks from the usual suspects...
(She gives a dismissive eye roll at the thought TCB and MacRear.)
...but there was one voice that was actually louder and whinier than theirs. And that voice belonged to you, Terrence Tillman.
You thought that getting Nest was a foregone conclusion. But your attitude turned sour as soon as you found out you’d actually have to work for that title shot. You see, you actually haven’t earned that #1 contendership just yet. Despite what you think, having a record of 13 wins and 13 loses isn’t exactly “working your way back to the top.”
Sorry T, but the numbers don’t lie.
For well over a year, you’ve been heralded at “The Terrific One”. You’ve been called the best pure athlete in LDFC. And when I first got here, I held you in high regard. I always said to myself, ‘one day, I want to be where Nest and Tillman are because they’re the standard.’
Well today, Nest stands in front of me.
After Thursday, you’ll be in my rear view.
You and others cry about me getting this match because of some “hero narrative” or this nonexistent “sympathy vote”. I understand the hate. I get it. After all, logic was never your strong suit, anyway. So allow me to educate you. I got this opportunity because I busted my butt for months to get it. I got this opportunity because, since starting here last Summer, I’ve only been pinned once. Besides, let’s address the real elephant in the room. Be it in a Triple Threat or One-on-One, you’ve proven time and time again that you just can’t beat Nest. So what makes this time will be any different? Because you said so? Because you reeeeeally, reeeeeeally mean it this time? T, you can change your tights and your hair color all you want. But until you fix what's between the ears, you’re never beating him.
I'm not coming back to be the hero.
I'm not coming back to be some savior.
I'm coming back to take my place as the next #1 Contender by knocking you on your ass!
So when you lose on Thursday, don’t think of it as a negative. Take it as a positive. I’m saving you from getting shown up by Nest yet again.
... Oh, and by the way Tillman, you should definitely keep the gold trunks. It’s the only gold you’ll have near your waist anytime soon.
