The Youtube live broadcast initiates and the young Louisianan—sporting a fresh, shorter haircut smiles at the screen. “Dis—is—uh—comin’ to you from mah’otel room—so ah dunno wut tha feed gon’ be like. Ah’ll try to be quick just in case.”
Chase brushes back his long bangs and sighs as he stares at his reflection in the mirrored window of his recording.
“So—as many’a know ah’ll be getting’ married very soon—and ah dunno ahm a lil nervous, yah? Mais—not to be married—jus—dat something might go wrong. Ah tink dats normal tho. From wut I hear at least—yah,” he laughs. “—but ahm lil mo’ worried bout mah match after dat cause Ahnneh’s friends with my opponent—and ah guess we cool and all—she gots lotsa friends—which is weird cuz don’t got nearas many. Josh seems like a coo’ guy. Mosta frans are good people. He does real good in his trainin, yah—better’an me.”
Chase laughs and rubs his shoulder before showing it to the camera to reveal a discoloration to his darkened skin. “See dat—dat’s a ring post when you hit it bad.” He readjusts his shirt sleeve and sits back in his chair. “Ah got da best cheerleader—and dat’s important to me. Wrestling’s hard work—and ah’ve got a long way to go. Ah tink dat mah biggest struggle is gettin myself ‘yped up, yah? Nick says I need to slap mahself—but—Ah don think that’s gon work too well for me. Ah get uh—da buttaflies in my stomach always. Mebbe ahm just shy or something. Dunno.”
He smiles warmly and takes a moment to collect his thoughts before he continues. “Josh—ahm not gifted—ahm just me. Ah gotta get good jus like you and jus like you—ah need all the challenges and hands on ah can get. Ah dinnit do so hot last match ah had. Das fo’sho. A good win—dat’d make a great weddin gift to mah bride, yah? She deserves dat much. Ah don want ya to go easy on me—das not gon’ make it better for me—das not gon make me stronger or more skilled. Nah—a good fight—dat builds character. Josh—you do you. Ah’ll do me. We both can’t win—dat’s fo’sho—but ah don’t want ya thinkin jus cause dis weddin’ so near ahm gonna be distracted. Non—plan on utilizing all the work ah’ve been putting into da classes—really show the trainers ahm improved. Dat ah can keep up wit da best of the class. Work hard to get where ya wanna go. Mais, don’t ah wanna go anywhere other than up and up and up. It’s gon’ be a good fight, Josh—you and meh. Ah tink we can make a real good match of it.
