Roscoe’s House of Chicken and Waffles
Mercy Williams made the trip down to Los Angeles to celebrate the birthday of her older brother, Elijah Williams. The sibling duo stood outside of Roscoe’s house of Chicken and Waffles. Mercy had a dumbfounded look on her face, studying the exterior of the building. The thought of the combo of Chicken and Waffles for lunch didn’t entice her at all. Elijah could see the weary of his younger sister and mocked her face. It didn’t bother him much since he was the one who decided the place since it was his birthday. Mercy looked over at her brother and frowned seeing him mock her.
“You expect me to order food from here?” Mercy crossed her arms over her chest.
“Hey, when it’s your birthday you get to choose the place, Mezza.” Elijah mirrored his sisters movement of crossing her arms.
Mercy released her arms, shaking her head at her brother being a pompous prick. “You should be thankful I am here to celebrate your 40th birthday, you know. I could’ve stayed in North Carolina.
“I’m not Forty, Ruiha.” Eliljah patted Mercy on the head, since his 6’5 height towered over her 5’9” frame.
“37 is almost 40…” Mercy rolled her eyes, mumbling to herself over being addressed with her middle name. The siblings entered the restaurant to get seated and proceeded to order their food. Mercy went with a Chicken Burger, not willing to attempt a Waffle and Chicken combo.
“Any new deets about the whole wedding with Delta?” Mercy queried since Elijah had been engaged to Mercy’s mentor Delta Madison since the end of December.
“So far the idea is a November destination wedding.”
“Oh? Really, have you decided where?” Mercy raised an eyebrow at how quickly Elijah responded to the question. The last time Mercy had this conversation with either of them, they avoided it like the plague.
“The top candidate is the Cook Islands, early to mid November. Only close immediate family, something like that, we still need to iron out the details.”
“Well that’s awesome and I’m excited.” Mercy exclaimed still in amazement over how effortlessly Elijah was able to tell her the details.
“So what’s the deal with you?” Elijah changed the subject onto Mercy who in response shook her head in confusion.
“What do you mean?”
“Mezza is making friends, so I’ve heard. What’s your new friends name, Christy Baron?” Elijah rubbed his beard and raising an eyebrow.”
“Christy Baron?” Mercy said the name to herself to make sense of who the hell her brother was talking about. After a brief moment of confusion, Mercy pieced the puzzle together. “I think you mean The Crimson Baroness.”
“That’s a weird name….”
Mercy laughed at how clueless her brother was about wrestling ring names.
“No, no… That’s her wrestling name, her name is Katie.”
“Christy, Katie… Close enough. But I see you’re spending a lot of time around her. I don’t want her to become a bad influence on you because I won’t hesitate to get in contact with her parents.”
Mercy burst into laughter. “How old do you think we are?”
“It’s a force of habit now since my 16 year old daughter back at home is up to no good. She wants to move up to California and you know...” Elijah trailed off, running his fingers through his shoulder length light brown hair.
“Oh shit, have you mentioned that to D?”
Elijah frowned, showing on his face that he hasn’t said a word to his fiancee about the ordeal. At the stage their orders had come to the table by the waiter. The siblings thanked the waiter for the food and proceeded to eat their meals.
“So what are you going to do?”
“I don’t know man, I just don’t want to focus on it right now.” Elijah wanted to focus on his meal rather than deal with the situation with him and his daughter.
“Well I think yo--”
Elijah interjected with his mouth full. “Eat your bloody food Mercy Williams.”
Mercy scrunched up her face looking at her brother speaking with his mouth full. “Gross, don’t speak with your mouth full.”
Elijah swallowed his mouthful. “But in all seriousness, Mez, I do worry about the people you hang out with. Not saying that you shouldn’t hang out with this Katie girl, I just don’t want you to get hurt.”
Mercy pressed her lips together coming to an understanding of her overprotective brother. “I know. But, Eli you can’t protect me forever. You have your daughter to worry about, you don’t have to worry about me. I'm a big girl now, let me figure it out myself.”
