Molly was back. After so much time away, so long without stepping foot into that ring, she had finally returned to the wrestling world. Not only that, but she had come away a winner. While she knew she still would’ve been happy with her performance even if she had lost, getting the victory was just the cherry on top. Regardless, it was more fun than she had ever remembered it being, and that was a good sign. Wrestling was something that she wanted to love so badly, but had always had a hard time in the past. In Insurgency, it was the pressure of rising to the top so quickly, mixed in with a serious drinking problem that drove her away from the sport. When she came back to SCW, it was again pressure, but this time due expectations from the company itself as well as the amount of non-wrestling commitment it took. Not to mention the constant over-the-shoulder lookout attitude of everyone there. But here in FGA, she felt right at home. It was the first time she had ever wrestled in front of just thousands of fans, compared to tens of thousands. There was no expectations on her, no unnecessary pressure, she could just go to the ring and wrestle. Like she did tonight.
Molly quickly pulled open her phone and unlocked it, before opening up the camera. She felt like recording something to post to her Instagram, just for her fans to see. She’d never done this before but for some reason, she felt like this was a good idea.
“Hey guys! I hope you enjoyed my return to the wrestling world!” Molly exclaimed, smiling widely and wiping some sweat off her forehead. “I just wanted to say thank to all y’all for coming out and cheering me on in my return match. We did it! Big hats off to Mark Storm, he put up a hell of a fight and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Anyways, just wanted to say thanks to everyone for all your support, and enjoy the rest of Vertigo!”

*Knock knock*
Molly groggily opened her eyes and immediately squeezed them shut as the light shining into her bedroom window felt more powerful than any punch to the face. She rolled over and immediately fell off her bed and landed hard on the ground.
“Fuck!”
Molly slowly got to her feet and opened her eyes, albeit just a tiny bit. Enough to see where she was going, but not enough to let in all of the blinding light. She began walking to the door of her bedroom, trying to wake herself up. She opened the door and walked towards the front door of her house as the person on the other side knocked again.
*Knock knock*
“I’m coming, I’m coming,” Molly shouted, not too pleased that she’d be woken up so early. Her mood hardly changed when she opened the door and saw a familiar face. Her eyes lowered until she was looking directly at his equally familiar badge.
“Hey Molly, long time no see,” the man said, as Molly opened the door wider for him. She yawned and covered her mouth as she did so, prompting an apology. “Sorry for swinging by so early, but it’s the only time that I knew I’d catch you.”
“It’s alright, I should’ve been up by now anyways,” Molly replied, inviting him inside her home. The man was Officer Dave Steele, with the Santa Monica Police Department. Molly went to college with him back in the day before he was an officer, and as such he had become Molly’s go-to guy in the police force. They were friendly enough with their history, but mostly Molly just called him if she noticed someone hanging around her house looking strange, or if she ran onto him down at the pier. He rarely made house visits unless following up on something, so Molly knew something was up. “Come on in,” she said, motioning behind her as she walked towards the kitchen.
Officer Steele took off his hat as he followed Molly down the hall and then down the stairs towards the kitchen. He had been inside Molly’s house a handful of times, and each time he was always amazed at how it could look so average and non-descript from the front, and so beautiful on the inside. “Thanks Molly. This shouldn’t take too long.”
Molly turned the corner into the kitchen and looked towards the counter. She was hoping that Sam had already woken up and made coffee so that she wouldn’t have to make it fresh herself. Sam was her personal assistant and friend who lived with her. Molly always felt a little uncomfortable asking Sam to do things for her, since they were pretty close. But she conceded that her life was busy enough as is, it was a gigantic help having someone who could deal with all the little things like travel and scheduling and the stuff that Molly often would forget to do being so busy. She was usually awake earlier than Molly and so sure enough, there was a fresh pot of coffee sitting in the coffee machine. “Want some coffee?” Molly asked him, as she grabbed a mug and poured herself some.
“No thanks, I already grabbed some this morning,” he replied, “Two cups would be a bit too much for me.”
Molly laughed as she took a sip. Almost immediately she felt more awake. Sometimes just the idea of coffee was enough to wake her up. “So what’s up?” she asked, “House visits are pretty rare for you.”
Officer Steele nodded at Molly, before remembering something else that he meant to tell her. “Oh, before I forget, we caught that guy you called about a few weeks ago,” he said, “The one who was hanging around your house all day.”
“Oh yeah?” Molly replied.
“Yeah, he was just some TMZ guy. Told us he was just hoping to get some pictures or an interview or something.”
Molly frowned as she thought about all the times those guys had jumped her in airports, at restaurants, clubs, or basically any time she went outside her house. She had actually gotten in a bit of hot water a while back when she punched a paparazzo in the face after he mentioned something about her dad. “Those guys are fucking dirt,” Molly spat out in anger, “I wish they could just make it illegal to do anything that they do. Like do they actually consider what they do important?”
“No idea,” Officer Steele replied, “But I told him that if I got any complaints from you or anyone around here again, I’d arrest him for stalking. And that I’d do the same to any other photog that came around. That seemed to quiet him down a bit.”
“They’re a bunch of babies, I remember when I punched the one guy he literally started crying,” Molly said, “And then he immediately tried to sue me. Lucky for me the courts basically laughed him out considering he was taunting me on my property.”
Officer Steele laughed quietly, picturing the skinny white guy cowering as this small but deadly girl wound up with a punch. “Yeah, so anyways, neither he nor any other of those guys should be giving you much trouble going forward. If they do, give me a call.”
“Thanks Dave, really appreciate it,” she replied, “But something tells me that you didn’t come all the way down to my house just to tell me that.” Molly knew there was something else going on, but couldn’t figure out what it was.
Officer Steele clenched his hands together as he prepared to ruin Molly’s mood. “Yeah...so I know you don’t want to hear about any of this, but we have to tell you,” he said nervously, “It’s about your mom.”
Molly’s smile immediately disappeared. She clenched her mug tightly and grinded her teeth for a few seconds before responding. “Did that bitch finally die?” Molly asked, watching as he shook his head no, “Damn, why can’t I ever get nice things?”
“Again, I know you don’t want to hear this,” Officer Steele replied, brushing over Molly’s pseudo-joke, “But your mom got released today.”
Molly frowned angrily upon hearing this news. As far as Molly was concerned, her mom was the scum of the earth. “I thought she had another year or so left?” she asked.
“Early release for good behavior.”
“HA!” Molly exclaimed, “That’s a laugh.”
Molly’s mom was a party girl when she met Molly’s dad, and somehow he fell head over heels for her. Her dad never realized it until too late, but she was simply using him for his wealth as a major investment banker, and his incredible kindness. After Molly was born her mom realized what kind of a responsibility being a mother was, and that she couldn’t be free like she wanted to be. Not to mention her partying had turned into a full-blown heroin addiction. So she abandoned Molly’s dad and Molly, and ran off with some drug dealer. Molly’s dad raised her by himself for her entire life, until he was murdered when she was 17. It was then that Molly’s mom suddenly turned up in her life and was given custody of Molly. Molly knew that the only reason her mom came back is because Molly received one-hundred percent of her dad’s estate, which was worth billions. Molly was ready to give her another chance, as her dad had taught her the value of second chances many times before. But when her mom’s boyfriend came with her, and the two of them abused Molly, that was when her second chance vanished. Molly eventually worked up the courage to report it, and was able to get her mom’s boyfriend arrested and custody taken away from her mom. Ever since then Molly’s mom had been trying to get back into her life, culminating with Molly getting her arrested a few years back for violating a restraining order. “You know what she did to me right?” Molly asked.
“Yeah Molly, you’ve told me before. And you know that if it were up to me, she’d be locked away for the rest of her life for what she did,” Officer Steele replied, standing up out of his chair as he did so, “But unfortunately, it’s not my call. I just came here to let you know, so that you wouldn’t find out from some other source.”
Molly didn’t want to say it, but she did appreciate that Dave came to see her to tell her this. Her mom had shown up out of the blue so many times before and each time it fucked with her head for some time after. At least now she could mentally prepare for the possibility of it happening. “My restraining order is still valid or whatever right?” Molly asked him.
“Yeah,” he replied, “She can’t come near your house and she’s not allowed to contact you in any way. So if she does, call me on my cell at any time and I promise I’ll drop whatever I’m doing and be there immediately.”
Molly continued grinding her teeth just thinking about it. She stared off into space for a few moments, enough time for Officer Steele to take it as a sign that it was time to leave. He started to turn around and that snapped Molly out of her trance. “Thanks Dave. I appreciate everything you’ve done for me, seriously.”
Officer Steele turned around as Molly approached him. He was slightly taken aback as Molly wrapped her arms around him and hugged him tightly, but he reciprocated the embrace. “Don’t mention it Molly. Anything you need, don’t hesitate to give me a call.”
Molly released him from her hug and smiled. She waved him goodbye as he turned around and walked out of the house. Molly sat down in the same chair that he was sitting in, her mind racing. She did not need this right now. Her life was finally in a really good place, and now she was probably going to have to deal with this. She ran her hands through her hair and began to get lost in angry thoughts as she thought back to everything destructive that her mom had caused in her life.

The screen flashed on, to a shot of Molly sitting in a chair at her desk, smiling widely. In the background there are pictures of her on the wall, mostly of moments throughout her wrestling and fighting career. Molly brushed some stray hair out of her face before addressing the camera.
“Hey everyone! It’s been a little while since I talked to y’all, I know. Mostly just because I didn’t have a match at Canadian Stampede, so I didn’t really feel the need to do one of these. But thanks to everyone who said hi to me in Toronto! It was awesome seeing so many people who came out to support me. Especially since I didn’t even have a match! But it was such an awesome show to watch and just be a part of that I didn’t even care. I’ll just keep working for it, and hopefully one day you guys will be able to see me in that ring for a pay-per-view event here at FGA!”
Molly smiled, thinking about the event. A few years ago, Molly would’ve been really upset or disappointed that she didn’t get a match on a big event like that. Even though there was an obvious reason why. In this case, the fact that she had wrestled one match for FGA prior to the event. But she understood that now, and she didn’t let it bother her. Only worry about things within your control, that’s what she went by now.
“Anyways, I was lucky enough to win my debut here in FGA against Mark Storm. I said before the match that I truly didn’t care if I won or lost so long as I gave my best effort and had nothing to be ashamed of. And that was true, I was extremely happy with how I wrestled and if Mark had pinned me I still would’ve been happy. Probably not as happy as I was, but still, I would’ve been able to hold my head high because I didn’t hold anything back and I put it all out there. And as for Mark, he was amazing. Part of the reason I was so pleased after the match just because he gave me exactly what I wanted. A battle. He didn’t overlook me, he didn’t act like I was beneath him. He knew that I was a challenge and he came into that ring and showed that he really believed that. He almost had me a few times, I was just lucky enough to capitalize on a mistake he made before he could do the same to me.”
Molly smiled, thinking back to the match. There definitely were a lot of mistakes she made that left her vulnerable. When Mark was able to hit that splash in the corner, and was this close to hitting Molly with the Dystopia. Or just a few moments earlier when he hit her with a shining wizard that could’ve cost her the match. But that was part of wrestling. Nobody was perfect, and the key was to just not let your opponents capitalize on yours, and make sure that you take advantage of theirs.
“But now it’s time for me to get settled in. My first match is over and done with. The pay-per-view has passed us by. It’s time for me to get going. Now I get my second FGA match. And I get to go against Ricky Valero. One half of the FGA World Tag Team champions. Someone that I know for a fact is incredibly talented inside the ring.”
Molly left out the part about Ricky being talented outside of the ring as well. A few weeks ago she’d hooked up with him and Katie and Dom in an extremely eventful night. But it was something they all agreed to keep quiet.
“Ricky is going to be a huge challenge for me. He’s just so good at so many things. I mean just look at what he did at Canadian Stampede two weeks ago. He and Luke beat Dexter to win the FGA World tag team titles. And yes, I am aware that Dexter was wrestling by himself against both of them. But have you seen Dexter? The man is a beast, you basically need two people to deal with him anyways. And Ricky was able to not only survive it, but come out on top. That was an amazing performance and he absolutely deserved to become champion.”
“And now I get to wrestle him. After all that talk about him beating Dexter and being an amazing wrestler, I now get to step into that ring with him and try to beat him. Boy is that ever easier said than done. Ricky is just so experienced. He’s been wrestling at a professional level since I was ten years old. Ten! That’s almost sixteen years. Meanwhile, little Molly here has been wrestling for four. I guess I’m technically not allowed to call myself a newbie to the pro wrestling world anymore, but compared to Ricky I’m as green as grass. So I’ve definitely got my work cut out for me. It’s not going to be easy to beat Ricky.”
“It’s no secret what I need to do to beat Ricky. I’ve got to use my speed to my advantage. Ricky is an incredible technical wrestler and if he gets a hold of me, that’s where he can do so much damage so quickly. So I’ve got to stick and move, keep running, never stop. That’s basically my strategy for everyone, but it’s a necessity in this match. Because the minute I stop moving, that’s when Ricky can beat me. They say that speed kills, and that’s going to have to be true for me come Saturday.”
Molly wasn’t too concerned with revealing any gameplan details in a video like this. Even if Ricky saw it, it was only telling him exactly what he should be expecting anyways. Molly’s speed is her biggest weapon and everyone knows it.
“See, for me, winning isn’t my main concern anymore. I hated myself when I was so focused on winning. It sucked the joy out of the sport for me. Too much focus on the outcome and not enough on just wrestling. I like to win, I want to win, don’t get me wrong. But if I lose, it’s not the end of the world. What IS the end of the world for me is if I leave the match feeling like I held back. Like I didn’t leave it all out there. That scares me more than any loss ever could. But if I go out there and give it everything I’ve got and I still lose? I feel no shame in that. I have no problem admitting that someone was the better man or woman on any given night, provided I threw my best at them and they answered everything and more. So that’s what I’m going to do with Ricky on Saturday night. I expect him to give me his absolute best. I expect him to look right at me, not past me. He knows that you can’t look at me as a stepping stone. I expect the best Ricky Valero that he can be to step into that ring across from me on Saturday night to take me on. Because here’s the thing. When I give my best, I know it’s tough to beat me. I know that I can hang toe-to-toe with anyone in FGA on my best day. So if you don’t focus on me, then you very well could find yourself on that mat with me celebrating above you.”
“I know Ricky knows this. I know he’s taking me as seriously as he should be. And I know he’s going to bring his best. So it’s up to me to bring mine. I’m going to step into that ring and leave it all out there. I’m going to hit him with everything I’ve got. He’s going to keep coming, just like I’m going to keep coming when he hits me. It’s going to be one hell of a match, I can promise you that much. And come Saturday night, we’ll see who’s best really is better.”
