As the Lion's Den roster prepares for Welcome to the Serengeti, we catch up with Shintaro Majima as he sits on a bench in the LDFC dojo and reflects on all that has happened since 3rd Strike
What was it that Mason Mannion said? That I would be further from the Old North Championship than ever?
There is the slightest hint of Majima shaking his head in response to this
He thinks too much of himself.
Leaning forward slightly, Majima moves onto the subject in hand
I have said on many occasions that Skylar Cloud is a disgrace to the Old North Championship, not only in the manner in which she "won" the title but also how she has tainted the title belt itself by making it an accessory. It was not long ago that the title promised an opportunity to many and held so much promise, yet now I doubt there are many who would want to win the title as it has been rendered next to worthless in the space of a few weeks. This is not what a champion is supposed to do.
Rubbing one hand against another for a second, Majima considers his worlds carefully
When I was nothing more than an eager trainee that learned everything the hard way, one lesson was drilled into me time and again: the person makes the title. The majority of wrestlers will not win a title in their career, so a wrestler must make the most of what they have achieved and put everything they have into proving they are worthy. What they should not do is behave like a child, flaunting their fleeting success and acting as if the title has made the person, because all this does is expose just how weak they are as a person - and a weak person makes a weak champion.
Majima tilts his head ever so slightly
So tell me, what sort of person begins their career dreaming of the day they can make a title reign all about themselves instead of the title they hold, a strong person or a weak person? I am sure you can work out the answer for yourselves, and with it you will know what sort of champion Skylar Cloud is.
With his question asked, Majima leans back a little bit
The question is not what kind of champion Skylar Cloud is, as that has been answered already, instead the question is what kind of challenger will I be.
As I have said, very few people get to hold titles in their career. Winning a standard match is something that is expected - but winning a championship match requires somebody to find something deep within themselves, embers that will not be extinguished no matter what the elements throw at them, because it takes more than knowing you can defeat an opponent to become champion. This is something else that I had drummed into me day after day as a trainee, the challenger must overcome the title the champion holds. All to often a wrestler will allow their head to be filled with ideas of being a champion, and these serve only as a distraction that will do far more to aid the champion's bid to retain the title they hold. Skylar Cloud either knows this, or she has no idea but is reaping the rewards, because overcoming the title itself is far more important than overcoming the champion.
Of course, by making a title near worthless in a matter of weeks makes it much easier to overcome the title.
There's a mild hint of a smirk on Majima's lips
I have heard much about the “champion’s advantage”, about how they can lose a match without losing a title, and I am sure these thoughts will be flowing through what passes for Skylar Cloud’s mind when she realises the only thing reaching for the Skylar is…
Majima lifts his hand towards the camera, an image many an opponent will know well as it is what comes before he unleashes his chops upon them
…but believe me when I say this, if you attempt to retain your title by any means necessary I will do everything in my power to prevent you from being able to defend the title within thirty days, and you will forfeit the title, allowing the title to be reborn. So believe me when I say this: no matter what anyone else may say, I am the man who will end Skylar Cloud's reign and give the Old North Championship the one thing it needs more than ever - a champion.
