“A true hunter never forgets and she certainly never forgives.” Hana Song raises her head, her hands pressed together in a triangle atop her lap; rather than a sneer and a smirk - her usual calling cards - her mouth is slightly agape. The room she is in holds another unusual aspect - it is well lit and plain, with eggshell white walls. Her unusual setting doesn’t stop her from saying what needs to be said.
“And a true hunter knows the best opportunity to strike. Ask yourself who gets fed: the predator who strikes first, fast, and sloppy, or the predator who pounces on prey that is unsuspecting and weakened? It doesn’t matter WHEN the predator strikes if at the end of the day the stomach is full and the mark is dead and skinned.”
“My opponent, my next victim, if you will, believes me to be a coward, his own words. A coward because I don’t believe in outdated concepts like honor and respect, because I don’t concern myself with such pointless matters as fair play or rules. How has that outdated sense of honor been working out for you, Credo? What has hurt more, your stinging defeats or your battered pride? Was it lack of honor when Skylar Cloud beat you? Or was it a smarter person using every advantage? Was it lack of honor when you lost to my associate - through no interference of my own, might I add - or was it simply because you’re just...prey.”
“It makes sense, Credo, it does. You don’t honestly give a damn about the things you preached to us. You don’t care about honor or respect, and your hypocrisy is showing through. I am a known quantity, people in the Den know to fear me or to avoid me because time and time again I have shown what happens if they cross my path...but you, Credo, you’re still a little pup trying to run with the rest of the pack. And you thought the best way to do that was by taking out the queen. The alpha. Because who needs hard work and ‘determination’ when you can just cut the line and hide behind virtues that died out when castles became tourist attractions? You’re not wanting to face me because I revel in hurting others, Credo, you want to face me because taking me down will catapult you up the chain.”
Hana stops speaking as she quickly covers her mouth and coughs, then a louder cough soon follows. Her next words are spoken much more rapidly.
“People like you, Credo, they think they’re above reproach, that just because you espouse morals and values that you’re infallible. ‘Sure, I may have lost, but I maintained honor’. What horseshit. It’s nice guy syndrome writ large. Hide behind your rhetoric all you like, Credo, it only means you’re as much a coward as you claim I am. Because you’ll never accept that you’re just..not that special. It could’ve been anyone that came to Aric’s defense...but it was you...why you? Because as I said...you stood to gain something. What makes me any different from the people who SEE something but DO nothing? Are they not cowards as well, Credo? When I have given express verbal warning that the attacks will not stop and no one says ANYTHING...surely, then, the real cowards are everyone else. But you don’t care about them, because the only thing they can give you is a meaningless loss, yet another notch on your thus-far unimpressive tenure in the Den.”
“But I’ll humor you, Credo. I’ll give you the satisfaction. You want to prove yourself, you want to believe that people like me, opportunistic predators, don’t amount to anything? Fine. Allow me to crush your spirit right along with your self righteous agenda. If I were you, Credo, I’d purchase two plots in a cemetery before our match. One to bury your values and one to bury your career. I will do more than just kick you in the head and spit on your body. I am going to expose you for the fraud you really are, Credo. It is always you wannabe heroes that break the most.”
“And at the end of the day, Credo’s supposed claim to fame will still be the fact that he came from the loins of a better man. Like father, like son, Credo, though in your case it will be much more...symbolic a death.”
“You dug this grave, Credo. I’m pushing you in. And let this serve as a warning to any other future upstarts: Don’t come at the Adder unless you can-"
Hana stops as another coughing fit emerges.
The image cuts to black just after capturing Hana Song again coughing, this time louder, before falling onto her back.
