A Bright Future
Location: Cheshire, England
ON CAMERA
The scene opens up to a large room filled with workout equipment and a few wrestling rings. The camera gets a good view of the rings and equipment before turning to view Danny Diamond, dressed casually as he looks around with a smile on his face. He turns his attention to the camera.
Danny Diamond: "You know where we're at right now? This place, it's called the School of Excellence. As you may be able to guess, it's a wrestling school and a damn good one at that. This place opened up in the early-to-mid two thousands. It was owned, until two thousand and thirteen, by my father. This is where I learned everything I know. My father trained various wrestlers here up until, well ... I'd rather not get into that. I've taken over for this place, though. Like father, like son, as they say. Just as my father trained me here, I'm training the next generation of wrestlers. Only one man has graduated since I've taken over, a guy by the name of Joey Miles. I'm sure you've all heard of him. Good guy. A bit out there, but he's talented. I helped bring that talent out. The point of all this, I suppose, is just to show you all where it started for me. This is where I spent years training to get into the amazing shape that I'm in. I've learned how to do things not many others can even dream of doing, right here in this building. I've talked before about how people look at me and think I've been handed everything in my career. They think that because I was born into a rich family, I was simply given my accolades. Y'know, I just bought my way into the XWA Hall of Fame and I just paid for my countless wrestling awards. No, the simple truth is that this place, right here, is what got me all of that. My father didn't let me graduate until I proved I was ready. He didn't go easy on me. As far as wrestling goes, I truly started from the very bottom and worked my arse off to get to where I am today. So, for all those of you who think I'm just a spoiled rich kid with a pretty face, look around. Breathe it in."
Danny turns toward one of the rings and steps over to it, leaning onto the apron and looking in.
Danny Diamond: "Since returning to FGA, people have questioned my tactics. I beat Noelle Smith, I beat Savannah Taylor, but I beat them with a handful of their choice of bottom. There are some out there who realize that doing what you must to win is how you get ahead, but others ... they think it's 'unethical'. Here's the thing, people can doubt me, they can claim I've been handed everything I've got, they can say I'm nothing more than cheat. I really could not give less of a fuck. At the end of the day, I'm going to win, like I always do ... like I always do."
Danny pauses briefly and then turns back to the camera.
Danny Diamond: "That brings me to the last Vertigo, tag team action. It was Nero Darling and myself up against Mistress Ai and Mr. Rottentreats - very interesting names, by the way. We had a good match, great even, as I always do. In the end, I tried winning the same way I won my first two return matches to FGA, with a handful of tights. It backfired on me, though. This time, the official decided to grow a pair and stop the count. Then, I let my temper get the best of me and I took my eyes off the ball for just long enough to get attacked by behind and put into an awkwardly enough positioned O'Connor Roll. I'm not going to complain about what happened. Congratulations Mistress Ai, congratulations Mr. Rottentreats. You did what you needed to do to win and I can appreciate that. Good luck in the tournament finals. As for my partner ..."
Danny lets show an ever-so-slight smile.
Danny Diamond: "Nero, first and foremost, allow me to apologize for getting distracted and costing us the win. I don't blame you for being unable to break the pin attempt in time. You did good. With that out of the way, we're booked to face off against each other at the next Vertigo. I want you to be well aware of something. While I don't particularly harbor any ill feelings towards you, I like to win. As such, and as I've shown in the past, I will do what it takes to achieve victory. You're a rookie and that's okay, but I will not take it easy on you. When I first debuted in 2WWF, nobody took it easy on me. I had to earn my victories. We're both coming off a loss and I'm not planning on making a habit out of that. If you're going to beat me at Vertigo, you're going to have to earn it. And don't think I'm going to underestimate you just because you're a rookie. I saw what you could do in our tag match. Bring that kind of fire again against me and maybe you'll stand a chance, but that's a very big maybe."
"The Prized Gem" licks his lips as he looks down. He chuckles lightly as something crosses his mind, before looking back up at the camera.
Danny Diamond: "I remember when I first debuted and I was the one getting these kind of speeches thrown at me. You know how I responded to them, Nero? By stepping into the ring and doing things that no one else could do. When I first started, I was humble because I didn't know what I would be up against. Some people tell you to stay humble, even when you've proven you're better than your competition. I say fuck that. Arrogance is bliss. If you're great, let the world know. Some prefer to let their actions do their speaking and that's fine. Myself, I tell everyone just how good I am and then let my actions reiterate what I just said. The point, Nero, is that there's different ways to show your talent. I've taken to boasting, but I make sure to back it up every chance I get. Being new to stepping into a ring in front of many fans and squaring off against talented wrestlers can be frightening to some. Don't be one of those people. Run into that ring with confidence and make it yours. Hype yourself up and then prove to everyone that you deserve that hype. Be an absolute fucking superstar, Nero. You have all the potential in the world!"
Slowly, the smile on Danny's face begins to dissolve.
Danny Diamond: "But ... just know, you have a full career ahead of you to become that superstar. That path to greatness will not begin with a victory over me. I'm nobody's stepping stone. Remember what I told you today, Nero, because you will become a great wrestler. It just doesn't begin here. Good luck in the future, but for now, when we step into that ring together, focus on one thing and one thing only; survival. Believe me when I say that I support you, but if I have to, I will break your fucking neck to win and you better be damn sure that others will do the same. We all want to be the best, you just have to realize what others will do to become it. See you soon, Nero."
Unusual for Danny, he doesn't even crack the slightest of a smile as the video comes to an end.
