“It is time for the grand finale, Jan,” Cass told her favorite employer. Sitting upon the back porch, both ladies looked out upon a beautiful lake. Man and child were out among it, creating a bond through fishing. Cass sat idle upon another of her extravagant chairs with a leg crossed over the other. She didn’t hold a wine glass, ditching it for some reading material. Yet, she closed the book (Animal Farm, if you’re wondering) and placed it down upon her lap.
“Indeed,” Jan answered, stepping up next to Cassandra. “We have the champion and his challenger on the opposite end of us. What do we plan to do about that?”
“What I always plan to do, Jan. We only have one opportunity and I love to upset the natural order with an elegant win. We are the main event. They have given us this chance to take the spotlight for ourselves. And you know me, Jan,” Cass looked up at her, a smile growing upon her face. “I lust for it.”
“They have the experience over us,” Jan tried to interject, but Cass waved her off.
“Only because of me. You have more experience than both of them combined. You’ve spent your whole life fighting. I assume Nest and Terrence have done the same for a while, but you came into this company already in the Intermediate class. I will be the odd woman out,” Cass explained, looking back upon the lake. “I will have to keep up with you.”
“You’re telling me that I’m leading the charge?” Jan asked, smirking a tad.
“Indeed you are. In order to defeat those two, we have to utilize the fact that we’re a cohesive team. It’s the only weakness they really have. Nest is a behemoth who has remained undefeated for some time now. Terrence is a favorite among the roster, pegged to be the one to slay the beast. Their combined strength can overwhelm us if they remain on the same page.”
“So we end them quick,” Jan said.
“No, the audience wants to see them at their fullest strength. They want to see the spectacle of the two competing with each other. It is our jobs not only to win, but to take them to their limits. It helps the audience want to continue to come. It also helps them both,” Cass stood up, taking her book towards the edge of the porch.
“I assume you mean by letting them see each other fight at their strongest?”
“Yes, it helps both of them with strategy. Actually, that creates another weakness for them. They don’t see us. Their focus draws upon each other ultimately. Sneak attacks form into their heads. The want to overshadow the other also manufactures in the recesses of their mind. It is a cock fight of sorts,” the mistress giggled to herself, walking back inside of her magnificent home. Jan followed, taking it all back in.
The brilliant red hue of the crimson walls clashed with the outside world. When Jan entered, attendants draped a thick shade over the door, preventing outside light to bleed in. Cass walked among her kitchen, dragging her hand over vines. She took a seat next to the immense dining table. She tucked her hands underneath her chin, giving Jan a coy look.
Jan herself simply followed, standing upright at the edge of the table. “It is a chance to prove ourselves. You took one of the number one contenders to her limits. I was given many chances to solidify my place. Our failures currently define us. This is why I’m analyzing this match to the fullest. These chances are rare in the wrestling world. It’s the main event. Besides the opener, people normally pay to see this.”
“If by the night’s end, we don’t have the audience screaming for more, then we have failed,” Cass lifted up her book, finding her bookmark. Jan looked at it, somewhat aware of its ostentatious nature. Cass utilized a peacock feather as a bookmark. “More so than if we lose to Nest and Terrence.”
“But we have come to win, yes?” Jan asked, titling her head. “Don’t tell me that you lost your edge.”
“No, don’t ever think that, my dear,” an answer came out. “I told you that I lust for the spotlight.”
“I said this was our grand finale, Jan. I do not intend to take a loss for that. I intend to win. I want to win in the most marvelous of ways. It is how I am. I want this to be a nail-biter. I want the audience to sweat, gasp, and almost faint over the splendid display that will be the main event,” she paused, sighing heavily.
“Now please turn off that camera,” Cass added, glaring Jan down.
