After arduous training session, Mercy casually walked outside from the grounds to enjoy the last few moments of the late afternoon sunshine. Mercy’s make-up free face lit up when she saw her friend and mentor, Delta Madison approached her. Her mentor decided to make a trip down to North Carolina to see how Mercy was surviving down in LDFC and offer any advice in person. Mercy admired Delta’s casual but stylish style of a sweater and black jeans and her wavy blonde shoulder length hair.
“So glad you could make the trip down here.” Mercy gave her blonde mentor a greeting hug.
“It’s not a problem, North Carolina has always been a second home to me. I’m just more interested to see how you’re coping down here, since you’ve always been a city girl.”
Mercy lightly laughed. Of course, Mercy was always a city girl but she wasn’t the type to say no to any kind of wrestling training so anywhere that offered such an opportunity was passable for her.
“It’s cool, I’m adjusting quite well. The only difficult thing is the accent barrier, because most of the people think I’m speaking a different language.”
“I always love the Australian accent, those people don’t know anything better.” Delta winked assuredly.
“Speaking of the Australian accent, how’s it going with my brother. Seems you two are getting really serious.”
Delta slightly blushed, thinking about her sprouting relationship with Mercy’s older brother, Elijah Williams. “It’s going great. Don’t you worry, I’m looking after your brother.”
Mercy raised an eyebrow, slightly laughing at Delta’s coyness. “That’s good to hear.”
“Anyway.” Delta sternly said, now changing the subject. “How’s the training going? Do you have any upcoming matches to prepare for?”
“Training is kicking my ass, but you know how the saying goes - No pain, no gain. And yes, I’m actually entered in a battle royal for a new championship called The Old North in a future event.”
“Oooh How exciting!” Delta exclaimed. “I’m sorta jealous, back in my day I never had this kind of opportunity.”
“Back in your day? Jeez, you aren't that old are you?” Mercy chuckled.
“Girl, over 10 years for a female wrestler makes you ancient in wrestling years and that’s the sad reality.” Delta said, matter of factly.
“If I could make it to 10 years, then that’s something I would be proud of. If anyone says differently, it’s their problem. I admire your longevity.”
“That’s true, thanks.” Delta nodded her head in agreement.
"Well, I do have a upcoming match on Pride. It’s against this guy named Kellen Klein, he’s like a…. Frat boy of some sort? Like those college guys from those American college movies I’ve seen.”
Delta arched an eyebrow. “Really? A college fraboy, that’s interesting.”
“Have you had any experience with them?”
Delta pressed her lips together, knowing her answer would blatantly put her in a bad light.
“Wellll…” Delta begun, dragging out her first word. “I never exactly had the college experience, life lead me elsewhere. Buuutttt” Delta took a pause, dragging out her last word. “In high school I went through the phase of dating college guys so I could be popular.”
Mercy didn’t want to judge Delta’s education and sexual history, but it took every ounce of her to not say anything.
“Look, I can see it in your face that you’re all judgey. But this is me being honest, I’m not a perfect human-being. And high school me does not define me as a person.” Delta added to save face.
“No, no don’t worry. I wasn’t judging you, I’m not like that”
Delta sighed. “My advice for you is no matter how good looking they are, stay away from those frat boys. Remember that Kellen guy is most likely about the fun and games, and would easily tear you down if you were all cold-sober.”
“What do you mean?” Mercy queried, crossing her arms.
“You’re a sweet, timid and beautiful girl and I can easily see him using those traits for his advantage to get one over you. Those frat boys have always been like that.”
“So… What do you think I should do?” Mercy uncrossed her arms, softening her face.
“Just let your personality shine, just be you. Be your own confidence self and go out there and prove you’re a strong fierce woman - just be cool. If he can’t handle it, then it’s his problem. Don’t believe you need to apologise for standing your ground.”
“You make the sound so easy.” Mercy frowned.
“You have a lot to learn and it comes with age, you’ll figure it out.” Delta gave a reassuring smile, patting Mercy on her shoulder.
Mercy took a breath and nodded her head.
“The weekend is approaching so you need to relax and let’s scout some halloween parties.”
Mercy smiled again, agreeing with Delta. This halloween would be Mercy’s first American Halloween and she of course wanted to experience it.
“Can’t wait, what are you dressing up as?”
Delta raised up her index finger to her lips. “It’s a secret. But first, your brother has been waiting for us in the car.”
Mercy was relieved to know that her brother was here as she followed Delta towards the car.
