“Second chances are sacred.” Nest sits inside of his tree stroking his beard.
“Second chances are necessary for growth. Otherwise, what good is learning from failure when there’s no opportunity to fail again?”
The Apex champion ponders as he smiles and rests his head against the tree. “Bree Nelson gets a second chance against myself to prove what we all know about her. She’s a soaring talent here in the Lion’s Den, there’s no doubting this. On any given night, she goes out there and steals the show. People have noticed this ever since LDFC started.”
“Then it kind of went downhill, somewhere around the time when we first had to step in the ring together.” Nest shakes his head. “Now I’m not saying I was the cause of your slipping down the downward slope because the signs where there before our match. However, I can’t help but feel some sort of guilt. I almost feel like the catalyst that drove you down even further. It shows whenever you come up short. It shows whenever you’re dealing with your partner Donnie. He’s been traveling around trying to get some more matches under his belt and his name out there. Quite impressive, but it seems as though he’s leaving you all behind.”
Nest tilts his head. “Not to even get into whatever his deal was with The Crimson Baroness. For anyone on the outside looking in, it looks like a strong case of Zoey 101 friendzoning. I don’t need to delve into your personal life, but it’s clear that it’s affecting your work here. I’m starting to watch a lot competitors here at the Lion’s Den start to lose focus. A lot of high school-esque hijinks are beginning to occur more often and the locker rooms can be mistaken for a bad Mean Girls reboot. This elementary faculty doesn’t bother the Apex, for I am confident that no one can take this belt away from me if they’re too busy worried about scandal, frienemies, and hormones."
“You’re not as energetic in the training sessions, Bree. You don’t show the same fire I made the mistake of growing accustomed to. I guess even a promising wrestler such as yourself can fall victim to the nuances and diminutive dealings that take place in the pettiest corner of this occupation.” Nest strokes his chin again. “The only thing I ask is that whatever funk you’re in, you break out of it come time for Pride. I don’t ‘Pride’ in knowing my opponent isn’t giving me their all inside of my Nest. Where’s the challenge in defeating someone who has defeated themselves already? Where’s the accomplishment that I’d get from beating a broken-down Bree Nelson as opposed to a Bree Nelson who threw everything but the kitchen sink? There is none and I won’t allow it.”
Nest rubs his hands together. “Before I allow you to use our match as another excuse for self-loathing, I will walk away from it unfinished. Just as was the case in my match against AKIRA Kaede, it looks like I’m heading into battle with someone who’s nothing more but a shell of what they could be. Nest Assured, Bree, I can be a problem much bigger than anything you’re currently dealing with. So focus.”
