"Give it back." Emmett holds his hand open for the letter his wife Sonia is toying around with. She knows what's inside of it already. The content, that chance of a lifetime, once folded neatly, is wrinkling slightly within her grasp. He reaches out for it again only for her to pull away from him at the last second. She's fast. He should be much faster, but love has a way of anchoring a man down.
The day ends with the sunset turning their now wrestling bodies into a silhouette against the Montreal city backdrop. It's a nice apartment, reasonably priced and had a beautiful view of the city. Emmett found himself pinning his wife playfully on top of the favorite element of his abode, the balcony. The city was his canvas and every day new things created the portrait that lit the fires of his soul. Every face walking the streets was a new signature making its own contribution to the masterpeice that he'll never finish. He turns his head away for a second. Looking out into the street he sees a mother and her child walking hand in hand away from a creamery. He smiles at her Canadiens sweater before his wife snakes away from his grasp, letter still in her hands.
She's beautiful. He can only come up to his knees and marvel at her as she stands victoriously over him. She starts to wave the letter in his face with the cocky smirk on her face that made him fall in love in the first place. "Can I read it again." He smiles at her before running his hands through his hair. Emmett dosen't speak a word. Instead he lifts a finger wagging it towards her face with a smirk of his own. "Pleeeease?" He sighs. She has that edge over him. Cheating, she pouts her lips for added measure. He can't say no to that face. With an eager look she opens up the sealing and pulls the letter out once more. Theatrically, she clears her throat. She reads the letter for the nth time, and delivers him the good news.
"Mister Faurve, we here at Frontier Grappling Arts are proud to announce that your lab results have comeback negative. Having complied to our mandatory blood screening we are happy to say that you are now a part of our esteemed promotion. We're happy to announce you as a crucial part of our Lion's Den Fighting Championship cycle. Enclosed in this letter is the tour dates, recommended travel itinerary, and contact information for any other possible questions you may have. W-" She stopped abruptly. She presses the letter up to her lips to hide her joy. Emmett can feel the happiness radiating off of her and know the feeling firsthand. He felt better every time the letter was read. It had been a long time since Emmett had earned any noteworthy work on the independent circuit. Joining LDFC was the foot in the door he'd been looking for. There was a time where offers for work came left and right. His star has rose in a limitless arch, and the world truly was his oyster.
His story was similar to Icarus, and the sun brought him back to earth.
"This could be huge for us." Emmett got back to his feet and walked over to his wife. Sonia was still beaming as she beaming as she buried her head into his chest. "It's not the main roster, but it's not bad either." He held her closely. The thing he wanted more than anything in this world was to give Sonia the world. He'd been working day and night to be at this very point. FGA was a company that had expansion on its horizon. He kept that in mind with every small Northeasterner American high school gym he worked at. Every time he stepped a single toe inside of a bingo hall his eye was on the prize.
He'd either make it or die tying.
"I'm just happy that have faith in me." Emmett looked up at her. His eyes rested slightly before he planted a light kiss on her forehead. It was her faith in him that really inspred him to go the extra mile. He had to be the man and put food on the table, it was his responsibility. FGA was giving him the chance to hunt. It's only fitting that he was being placed in the feeder organization aptly named Lion's Den. He'd have to scratch and claw his way to the top of the food chain. He'd have to fight to provide. The sun lowered and the edges of darkness began to shroud the two. "I'm happy you have faith in me."
He had someone to fight for.
Someone to provide for.
