"Ain't it funny what one little win in the right place can do?"
Serenity's sitting on the hood of her car, just outside Battlegrounds Academy.
"A month ago my name wouldn't've been anywhere near this match. The less famous, less successful half of at best LDFC's number two tag team - only two matches away from the Apex Championship? The pale chick in the dirty wedding dress: her? You gotta be kidding, right?" She gives a small smirk. "But here I am, in a six-way match at 2nd Impact with Terrence Tillman, Shintaro Majima, Endee Lights, Skylar Cloud, AKIRA Kaede. Guess I got the last of those names to thank; after all, all it took was ending her undefeated streak 'bout three weeks ago for me to be in this conversation right now. And I can't help but notice that ever since that match suddenly AKIRA doesn't have a whole lot to say. I gotta admit, that's disappointing. I wanted to see how she'd respond. I said let's find out how she handles her first loss, but we ain't seen much of anything from her. But I'm sure I'll find out at 2nd Impact, at least? See, far as I'm concerned, the balance is even between us now; she talked shit about me, and I set her straight. But I gotta feeling she won't feel the same way. You're coming to get your win back, AKIRA, I know it, I'd expect nothing less, and I say: bring it on. Let's see how round two goes."
There's a thump behind her as Ligaya opens the car's door. Serenity looks round annoyed for a moment, then turns back shaking her head, continuing, "As for the other four people in the match... I really got nothing important to say to or about any of you. Hell, I barely know any of you, or know anything about you... least, anything about you that's not relevant to what you can do in the ring. Because don't think I don't know my shit; unlike certain people, I actually know who each person in this match is. I've seen your matches. I've watched your promos. I know how AKIRA, Shintaro and Triple T all feel about each other, heard the things Endee and Skylar have had to say about each other over the last few weeks... but none of that is my problem. You guys all extract whatever pounds of flesh from you want each other. I ain't bouta get in your way. I ain't in this match to get revenge on anybody or make new enemies. I'm in it for victory and victory alone."
"Ya see, I know I'm far from the favourite in this thing. Despite the fact I've already beaten the only other person in this match I've faced yet, I'm an outsider. Somehow Hansel und Gretel shit-talked and whined their way into Chris Bond agreeing to a match with them, so hey! They're in the main event! And Ligaya and me, we've already proven we can get it done against them. Like I've said before, I know I ain't no natural wrestler, but with the example of Phreak to guide and inspire me, I work harder than anyone. Y'all don't think I train hard just because I can't afford to come down to Greensboro every week? Bitch please. Why you think mosta my videos are from here at Battlegrounds? Because cooldown between sparring sessions or workouts is as close to free time as I get most days. Shit, this promo right now I'm squeezing into the fifteen minutes before we have to set off for North Carolina."
There's another bump. Serenity turns to find Ligaya frustratedly manhandling a bag into the car, muttering, "C'mon you son of an ass-blemish!"
"You gotta do that right now?"
Ligaya just taps her wrist as a response. Serenity sighs and turns back.
"Whatever. I don't got time to reshoot. But listen, I'm working. I'm patient. I'm building myself up. Nobody expected me to be in this match yet. I lose it? Then I missed an opportunity that was barely on my radar yet anyway and I go back to building myself up like I was. But if I win then I just beat five of the hottest prospects in LDFC in one go. I have very little to lose at 2nd Impact, and I have everything to gain. You ain't gonna see me holding a thing back. I may not wrestle two matches a night like Phreak, but I'll wrestle twice the match that anyone else does. Wednesday, Gibsonville Mid-Atlantic Sportatorium, come see for yourself."
She kisses the tips of her index fingers, then flips them both at the screen.
"We better start driving now so see you down there. Laters."
Fade.
