"I done messed up." Donnie uttered, his voice frantic with worry. His eyes shifted nervously away from the FaceTime session, scanning the little diner that he'd decided to stop at.
He just couldn't head home. Not yet anyway.
Not while he was still feeling... what exactly?
Donnie wasn't sure. All he knew was that whatever it was, Bree would notice, and that was the absolute last thing he wanted. Because then she'd probably ask questions, and the answers weren't necessarily something that he wanted to supply.
"You're a kid." His brother snorted, nonchalantly. "Dats what ya doggone sposed to do. Ain't like ya killed anyone, did ya?"
"No." Donnie blurted. "Nuthin' like that, Darren."
"Then what the hell's wrong wit ya?" Darren frowned, a bit perturbed that Donnie was bothering him so early on a day off.
Donnie brought the screen closer to his face, speaking in a whisper; although it didn't make much difference as the diner was just about empty. "Ya remember that girl Katie I was tellin ya about?"
Darren nodded. "The drop dead gorgeous one ya been raving about?"
Donnie blushed but nodded. His crush on TCB hadn't been a secret. "Yeah, well... I slept with her last night."
Darren's eyes lit up. "Well look atchu lil bro." He beamed with pride before noticing the distraught look on Donnie's face. "Wait, you ain't turn into a two pump chump on her now did ya?" he asked, his brows furrowing with concern for his poor brother's reputation.
Donnie facepalmed. "Noooo, Darry. Nothin' like that at all. Things were good. Great even..." He couldn't hide the smile. "I like the girl a lot." Hesitation. "I mean she's cool."
"Then what's the damn problem?"
"Bree!" Donnie exclaimed in frustration.. He sighed. "All I could think about this morning, while I was layin there in Katie's bed... was Bree."
Darren shook his head. "What about her?" he questioned, although Darren Cross already knew the answer, and he'd known it for years.
"I'ono." Donnie replied unsurely.
"Bullshit!" Darren cackled. "You're afraid of what she's gonna think about ya when she finds out. You're afraid it's gonna push her away."
Donnie didn't reply, but his silence was all that Darren needed to know his assessment had been right.
"Lil bro...I just think you're afraid of losin' the woman that you love."
And there it was. Everything that Donnie had been tussling with in his head that morning laid right out on the table. As much as he liked TCB; Donnie couldn't help but to realize that he loved Bree, and although people had teased him about it before, this time he couldn't just merely shrug it off.
Life had just gotten inexplicably complicated for little Donnie Cross, especially with the big tag match at 2nd Impact looming.
Cause how were ya supposed to tag with someone, when you couldn't even look them in the eye?
That was something that Donnie would have to figure out sooner than later.
Cheaters never prosper.
Those were the words that I said to ya, Valcone. Not cuz I felt ya needed a 'life lesson so to speak, but simply cuz I thought you were a better man than you were showing.
You're a top notch talent. Ain't nobody in their right mind gon doubt that, but i'ono; I figured a man of your stature would at least have a bit of decency to him; some dignity if ya will.
But clearly, I was wrong.
Cause ever since I called ya out for your yellow-bellied display during our match at Pride S02E01, you've shown the world, that that's exactly what ya are, Valcone.
A coward.
A little slithering snake willing to do whatever just to get where he wanted to be.
I gave ya every opportunity to show the world that you were the man that I initially thought you were, and what did ya do?
You went and attacked me from behind.
You went and warped poor Laura Seville's mind and now, ya even got her helpin ya do your dirty work. Well that's ok, cause at 2nd Impact, she can go right on ahead and help ya get this ass whooping.
Cause now, our paths cross again, Valcone. Just as I said they would. And this time? Ain't gon be no sneak attacks, buddy. This time, you're gonna have to stand toe to toe with me, and Bree, in that ring, and we’re gonna settle up our score.
I’m not the bully that you portray me as, and you my friend, are definitely not a victim.
But come time for 2nd Impact?
You and Laura will be.
And you’ve got nobody to blame, but yourself.
