“So… another singles match. Another one-on-one bout and… and I am still right”
The screen fades in from black to reveal AKIRA Kaede, her visage shaded from the bright, cloudless daylight by a slanted ballcap. She’s not looking into the camera as she carries it, instead keeping her eyes ahead as she walks, camera shifting with each footfall.
“... I am STILL un-pinned, I am STILL un-submitted. My reputation in that ring - without anyone around to lose it for me - is… it’s flawless. NOBODY in that ring, in that locker room or at the academy has had a response for me, because I am what I say I am… I am a fighter. Others can maybe wrestle better than I can, or jump off the ropes like an idiot or get on the mic and talk on end…”
She looks down into the lens as she makes a quick turn, we can see cross-walk lights over her shoulder as her stride doesn’t break.
“... but I am the one who keeps winning. Even despite the excuses of the people I beat, or the experience in the ring they have over me, and I keep on doing it because I AM better, because I AM Lions Den’s best fighter”
The Little Monster stops walking, checking left and right, in the background we can hear several vehicles passing by.
“I just wish I didn’t have to be the only one proclaiming it… I don’t really like talking… it’s just, not me. It’s not who I am. I prefer to act, to let what I do in a fight… or match - whatever - speak for itself”
She snorts derisively, one hand pinching the bridge of her nose, visibly distressed by her own predicament.
“That’s how it’s supposed to work, right? That’s what I’ve always been hand fed since I was a kid: work hard, do well… get rewarded. Yet this company and my trainers seem to be asserting that - just like the Easter Bunny and Santa Clause - it was a lie. Hard work paying off is bullshit and I am just another example of this…”
The Five Foot Colossus bites her bottom lip, a quick exhale before she stops and turns, leaning backwards against a nearby chain link fence. She quickly levels the camera to eye level.
“Last Pride I took on Seville and she made the smart choice to tap before I ripped her arm off, the Pride before THAT? I put Shintaro on his back for the three count… I waited to see the card for this Pride, and what do I get? I get put lower in the card than Shintaro, a man I kneed in the face so hard he forgot the concept of logic, I GET PUT LOWER THAN SEVILLE… and more insultingly? I get to face Serenity… a stoner-chic idiot whose failings at being a fighter are overshadowed only by the goddamn LDFC bookers!”
With a snarl she grabs her hat and whips it to the ground.
“Time and time again I’ve let my actions do the talking, I’ve let the fact that I haven’t been defeated tell people that I’m not an idiot, that I deserve more... and I got nothing…”
AKIRA’s nostrils flare as she takes a moment to collect her thoughts.
“... so this week, Serenity? I’m gonna beat the THC right out of you, I’m gonna stretch and pound you into the mat until you’re something twisted and horrifying, then everyone will KNOW, I deserve more”
