After his upset win against Mickey O'Reilly, many were looking forward to seeing Jaques Mercier compete at Spring Breakage. Unfortunately, his long anticipated match against Nic Venum was cancelled due to Venum's release from his FGA contract. When first questioned about his thoughts and whether or not he would be attendance at Spring Breakage, Mercier refused to comment. Despite his refusal to answer the media, Mercier was still expected to make an appearance at Spring Breakage. Although it was confirmed that he was backstage at the event, Mercier did not make an on screen appearance. Immediately following the event, he was once again questioned about his thoughts on not being involved in a match at the super show. He had this to say:
When asked about not making an on screen appearance he responded with this:
Mercier declined further questioning, but closed with this:
With that, Mercier left the scene in his vehicle. What's next for the man who once called himself "Black Magic"? Stay updated on him and other FGA news at fgawrestling.blogspot.com and follow him on twitter @therenasance.
First and foremost I understand that this is a business and its employers are expected to compete at a high level every time they are booked to compete. Nic Venum did not meet the standards set by some of the better stars on the roster such as Michael Tompkins and Blaine Harrison. Because of his ineptness, he was released and I was left without a match tonight. I want to make it clear that I am not bitter about the situation and I still have a high respect for management and what they do. I would have loved to have been involved in a match with anyone on the roster, but a match with no hype serves no purpose.
When asked about not making an on screen appearance he responded with this:
It was my decision not to make an on screen appearance tonight, not management's. Honestly it had to do with the disgraceful actions of Michael Tompkins, a man that I have so much respect for, a man of integrity. Sure, O'Reilly had basically been doing the same to him, but to stoop to his level? I was too appalled and for once I was at a lost for words and refused to step into the same ring as him tonight. It has been well known that he and I have shared a mutual respect during our time in FGA, and I hope that he and I continue to have that mutual respect in the future.
Mercier declined further questioning, but closed with this:
Spring Breakage was an excellent event even though I wasn't involved. All of the competitors brought their A-game and had the fans on their feet for the majority of the show. I'd like to congratulate Blaine Harrison for a successful title defense, but don't get too attached because soon it'll be my turn at a title shot and I assure you that I'm a much more difficult opponent than Presten Blake. The future of FGA is looking brighter than ever now that I'm on top of my game and once I have the FGA Championship I'll lead this company to the top of the wrestling industry. And you can quote me on that. No church in the wild!
