You are more distressed than usual over any dissonance in your environment or personal relationships, and you are inclined to avoid serious discussions or real disagreements with others. Also, challenging mental work and concentration is difficult for you now.
On Wednesday night I did the improbable and defeated 'The Rogue' Michael Tomkins to be the second ever FGA Heavyweight Champion. On Saturday night I wrestled in Griffin, GA and successfully defended my PSW Tag Team titles. Right now I should be on cloud nine; two title belts in my possession, riding high wherever I roam and more promotions trying to sign me to their roster. I can ask for more money and live more comfortably than I've been able to for a long time, but there's something wrong with this picture.
Blaine Harrison
So, this is what it feels like to be the champion.
I'm sat on a hillside north of Santa Barbara, looking outwards towards the coast. Of course I can't see it, I can just see the trees and rolling hillsides before me. Jenny followed me up the hill today and is holding the camera; she doesn't want to be seen too often with the swelling caused by our accident at the gym last week.
Blaine Harrison
Hard work, determination, dedication and heart. And this is what it gets you, folks.
I pat the FGA Heavyweight Championship that is slung over my shoulder. A broad smile crosses my face as the sun continues to beat down on this gloriously warm Tuesday afternoon. Even in just a pair of jeans and a brown t-shirt with the album art of Cat Power's 'The Greatest' printed on it I'm feeling the effects of the heat, although it may have been more to do with the hike up to this point.
Blaine Harrison
I won't drone on about becoming the champion just now, there's more appropriate times for that. You see, right now there's one person in my line of fire. 'Notorious' Nic Venum. Three things spring to mind when I hear the name, 'Notorious' Nic Venum. One, you're a former NWA Champion and that's something for you to be proud of, something for us to respect you for. Two, travel issues. Something we should probably mock you mercilessly for. I mean I got to Huntington just fine, hell I got there early because the fans paid to see me and Tomkins put on a showstopper! The fans in West Virginia paid to see Preston and Micky, they even paid to watch Nic Venum and Jacques Mercier square off ... But as Meatloaf said, two out of three ain't bad...
A roll of the eyes on my part. 'Travel issues', what a lame excuse.
Blaine Harrison
And three, that damn rap song. I'll focus on the positives though, Nic. I mean, relatively speaking, you're a rookie to this sport. A whole seven months as a professional wrestler and you've already captured more singles titles than I have in my five years. Then again we don't weigh success by the amount of titles we can gain if we don't do anything with them now do we? It's less than a week since I captured this belt--
I say patting the belt once more.
Blaine Harrison
--less than a week in which I've done nothing more than drink in celebration and sign autographs for fans who suddenly recognise me. Thank God for DVD releases.
I'll ignore the stupid drunken things I did during those twenty-four hours after the show.
Blaine Harrison
I'm an unproven entity as champion, just like you are to the FGA fans. But don't worry, Nic, I'm not going to look past when we step into that ring in Williamsport. Those fans will have paid for one hell of a show and that's what I intend on giving them! You and me, Nic, we're going to tear that house down. The fans will be so excited to watch two of the best that FGA has to offer duke it out in that squared circle for their entertainment. I know the title isn't on the line, Nic, but there's pride and there's honor on the line. I mean, don't you want to be the man who can say they beat the champ?
Assuming he can make it to the show...
Blaine Harrison
Preston Blake is probably looking at you right now, Nic, wondering how much you can soften me up ahead of 'Spring Breakage' later this month. Can you slow my momentum or will I be coming off two straight victories going into my first title defense? Unfortunately he's not looking at you in the same light I am, he's probably thinking that I won't work up a sweat this coming show. He's probably thinking I'll despatch you quicker than I did Jack Flener or Elliot Black!
The look of anger that had built up on my face quickly dissipates as I take a deep breath and glance around the hillside. I really should come up here more often, it's so peaceful and tranquil; save for the occasional motor vehicle driving past on the road a hundred yards back.
Blaine Harrison
Can you break the tranquillity, the harmony that I'm surrounded by right now? Or will you fall by the wayside? We'll have to wait and see next week...
Jenny stops recording and puts the camera down in her bag. She stays standing where she was instead of coming to sit down next to me; she's probably still angry over what happened a couple of days ago.
Blaine Harrison
Sit down, enjoy the view...
Jenny
I'd rather head home.
Blaine Harrison
Are you still mad at me?
It's Jenny's turn to roll her eyes and emit a frustrated sigh. Maybe I hit on a sore point.
Jenny
I've forgiven you for punching me!
I can feel a "but" coming on.
Jenny
It's just right now I'd rather be doing anything other than sitting on a hill side wi--I just don't want to be here.
Blaine Harrison
You were going to say 'with me'. Come on, Jenny, talk to me.
Jenny
I think you're a shit for flirting with Tiffani Michaels on Twitter last week.
Blaine Harrison
That was a drunken mistake, Dianna's forgiven me for that.
Jenny
Yes, but she doesn't know you two slept together!
Fair point.
Blaine Harrison
And she never will...
Jenny knows she promised to keep that a secret; she is one of only three people who knows that secret and neither Tiffani nor myself are likely to tell Dianna any time soon. Why oh why did I share my feelings?
Jenny
I'll keep my promise. But, you need to tell her the truth one day, she deserves that much. She's a sweet girl and should know what she's getting in to.
There's a pause as we look at one another. I hate it when Jenny gets on her high horse like this, I hate it even more when she's right. Kinda. I should tell Dianna that the only reason I liked her to start with was her uncanny resemblance to my ex-fiancée and the mother of my child. I should tell her that, while we were broken up, I slept with Tiffani Michaels and still maintain a friendship with her to this day. Technically I should tell her that and more...
Blaine Harrison
But I might lose her...
Jenny
That's just a risk you'll have to run.
Another pause.
Blaine Harrison
Lets go home.
I say as I rise from my seated position and start walking down the hill towards the car park. Jenny follows behind, struggling to initially catch up from my prompt head start as the scene comes to an end.
