Just in case there's a few people out there who couldn't make a whole heck of a lot of sense out of the various Karma segments on the show, there may be a reason for this: they're all part of a wider story I've been telling since A New Odyssey, so if you weren't looking you may have missed something. So to fill in the gaps, here's a primer of everything between ANO and the latest show.
The first seeds were sewn on March 3rd, on the CD board in the wake of ANO swiftly followed on the most Karmic of Twitter accounts. The second entry also implies something is rotten in the state of Karmark, given all of Karma's tweets have had a decidedly Karmic flavour to them, rather than a solemn video with no text to go with it.
A few days later, there was a follow-up tweet, which confirmed that, yes indeed, something is rotten in the state of Karmark - if Cherry hasn't seen Karma since ANO, where has he gotten to?
With all that in place, then it was time for the RP to shed light on the situation - as well as explain the significance of You Can't Always Get What You Want, which is the last track on Let It Bleed, which Karma always skips in his pre-match ritual. More than that, it underlined that Cherry hasn't seen or heard from Karma since he sped off into the night after ANO, so she's having to host an episode of Karmic TV on her own - yet is clearly preoccupied worrying about Karma, so she fumbles all over the place. In the RP's epilogue, it's implied that Karma finally does make contact with Cherry, although we don't see what he actually says, just that he's said something.
Which takes us to the show itself, where a few more loose ends got tied off.
Firstly of all, we see Cherry at the show but not with Karma, which is pretty much a first as they're close to inseparable. During this segment, Cherry interacts with Tony Carmine, making reference to his earlier responses on Twitter - an idea I came up with when brainstorming this segment, as it ties those two threads up neatly. When we finally see Karma in this segment, where he speaks for the first time since ANO...he doesn't, which is something drastically out of character for him.
Shortly after that, we have a follow up segment, where Cherry is showing such concern for Karma that she carries him to the arena doctor to have him checked out - which is a million miles away from the fangirl enabler she was when Karma first rocked up to FWA's doors a couple of years back, where she'd just presume everything was fine and dandy. There's also a throwaway comment from Cherry that explains why Karma's taking his non-win so hard. The segment ends with Cherry once again showing genuine concern for Karma by helping him walk down the corridor, before being faced with the sort of choice that Telltale Games would think was too harsh: should she let Karma rest and deprive him of what he lives for, or should she put him at grave risk by letting him wrestle in the hope the fog clears?
Obviously, Cherry chose the latter and led Karma to the ring for his match which is where I left it in the hands of the writers.
So...thoughts?
