Scene One: The Letter
The scene opens inside of Jacques Mercier's apartment in Boston. The entire apartment is silent, almost as if there were no one inside. A knock on the door disrupts the silence. A minute passes and another knock on the door echoes throughout the room.
Jacques Mercier: Hey! I'll be there in a damn minute so quit knocking on my door. Shit!
A groggy Jacques Mercier appears from his bedroom, nightclothes still on. He mumbles something about it being too early in the day for people to be knocking on his door as he looks through the peephole. A man stands with his back to the door, blocking Jacques' view of his face. Jacques shakes his head, he hated not knowing who was visiting him beforehand due to the amount of enemies from his past that would love to pay him a visit. Not one to show fear though, he unlocked the door and opened it. The man turns around to face Jacques, but Jacques doesn't recognize him at all.
Jacques Mercier: Can I help you?
The man stares coldly at Jacques, looking him up and down as if making sure he'd knocked on the right door. The man responds by simply nodding before reaching into his coat jacket. Jacques puts a hand up.
Jacques Mercier: Woah! In an apartment complex on the fourth floor? That's just dumb.
The man stops moving his stare somehow getting colder and colder as time lingers on. He shakes his head with a look of disgust on his face before continuing to reach into his jacket causing Jacques tenses up. The man pulls an envelop out and hands it to Jacques who lets out a sigh of relief. The envelop simply says 'Jacques', no return address or anything. He looks up at the man suspiciously before taking the letter. The man nods his head, a gesture Jacques takes to mean 'Open it.' He stares at the envelop again before opening it and taking out a single sheet of paper that was folded three times. He unfolds it and begins to read:
Jacques smiles as he finishes reading the letter. He looks at the man who delivered it to him who still stares at him coldly.
Jacques Mercier: Thank you.
The man nods before raising his arm, pointing a fist a Jacques. He then turns the fist into a thumbs up, causing Jacques to smile. The man then walks away and Jacques goes back into his apartment as the scene fades.
Scene Two: My Me Time
The scene opens in Jacques' apartment. He sits in one of the chairs that faces the television while another man sits on the couch. The man on the couch is breaking down on the coffee table while Jacques holds an almost finished blunt in his hand. He puts the blunt to his lips and takes a big hit. Holding it in for five seconds before doing the French Inhale, he ashes the blunt.
Jacques Mercier: Hey Dex, did you know that I was married?
Dex stops what he's doing and looks at Jacques confused.
Dex: The fuck? When the hell did that happen.
Jacques shrugs.
Jacques Mercier: I don't know, but according to Asro Kast, I'm married with kids.
Jacques starts cracking up while Dex shakes his head smiling. Dex continues to break down while Jacques takes a Grape White Owl and breaks it open with his fingers. Suddenly, Dex stops again.
Dex: Wait... Who's Asro Kast?
Again, Jacques shrugs.
Jacques Mercier: I guess he's supposed to be my punishment for losing twice in a row, but I'm going to make management regret that decision.
Dex: Oh yeah! That guy your gonna fight, right?
Jacques nods as he dumps the tobacco from the wrap. He puts the wrap on the table and takes what Dex has broken down, spreading it evenly throughout the wrap. Dex looks up from the table and stares directly at the camera.
Dex So... This camera guy just follows you around all day?
Jacques nods.
Dex: Yo... I ain't gonna lie, that's creepy as hell man.
Jacques grins as he begins to roll the blunt.
Jacques Mercier: I've never actually thought about it really. Anyway, back to Asro Kast.
Dex: Who?
Jacques start laughing, almost ruining the blunt by doing so.
Jacques Mercier: Dude I'm supposed to face on the next show.
Dex: Ohhh. Sorry man, I'm high as fuck.
Dex chuckles as Jacques turns to face the camera.
Jacques Mercier: What's up FGA? After the last Combat where I lost to Tompkins, I had a bit of a reality check. I realized that my priorities are fucked up.
Dex: What else is new?
Jacques Mercier: I assure you that this extra week has given me plenty of time to sort them all out. I'll still be the same young risk taker that you all have come to love, but the risk I take will be thought out before I do anything that will cost me the match. As much as I love to entertain you all, I feel that the risk taking loser gimmick won't appeal to you for too long.
Dex: I don't know... Whenever you bust your ass, I'm entertained.
Jacques Mercier: You must not want any of this bitch, huh?
Jacques holds up the blunt to Dex as he runs a lighter underneath it to harden it. Dex give Jacques an apologetic look as Jacques lights it up and takes a hit.
Jacques Mercier: I swear I was talking about something else though...
Dex: You were talking about the ass man or something.
Jacques Mercier The ass man? The fuc- Oh! Asro Kast, right.
Jacques lets the smoke out before passing the blunt.
Jacques Mercier: I guess that goes to show how irrelevant to me he is. Don't get it twisted though, no matter how unimportant you are, you are my opponent so when the bell rings you'll have my full attention. Most people that know me would say that you should be honored to have my full attention because that's not one of my strong suits, and before recently I'd rarely give anything more than half of my attention. So you're the first person that faces a fully focused Jacques, and I promise that you'll be wishing I only gave you half of my attention.
Dex passes Jacques the blunt and he takes it before taking a hit. He waits a few seconds before letting the smoke out slowly.
Jacques Mercier But didn't you say you wanted attention? That, since I'm held in a 'higher regard' than you but I wasn't worthy of being in the same ring as you.
Dex: Don't forget crack monkey.
Jacques Mercier: Right. Well, that makes no sense. No matter how much you can't believe that I'm put in a higher regard than you, I still am and you admit it. Wouldn't that mean that you shouldn't be in the same ring as me?
Dex: Ohhhhh shit! That does make sense!
Jacques Mercier: I know right! Shit just crossed my mind. This fucker wants to talk down to me, but he's ignorant as hell. He knows nothing about me, saying that I have a wife and kids and shit and then he contradicts himself... The fuck? You really don't deserve to be in the same ring as me, and I'll show you why on the next Combat.
Dex: Shiiiittt, I'm praying for that dude's safe recovery already.
Jacques nods.
Jacques Mercier: You know what? This bitch is ruining my 'me' time. Got me getting heated over a nobody like Asro Kast. I'm done with it. You wanna hit this?
Jacques holds up the blunt to the camera man. A hand comes from offscreen and takes the blunt before the scene fades to black.

Jacques,
The last time you visited was unexpected and unnerving, but I'll admit that I enjoyed the small amount of time we were reunited for. I hadn't seen or heard from you in years and you dropped a bomb on me by telling me that you took an interest in wrestling. I couldn't believe it. You sounded like it was something you were committed to doing, and when I watched you beat that Scott Reave character you asked me to pray for, I knew that you were destined for something great. I was so proud of you, but I still wasn't fully convinced that you were a changed man for some reason. Sadly, I quietly hoped that you would lose your next match. The old you would have quit if you were too successful too early, but at the same time you also would have quit if you felt you weren't good at it. When you lost to that Chandler guy, I was happy. You tasted victory and defeat early on and now you could move forward. Then the next match came, and you lost again. I could see the disappointment in your face, a look that I know all too well. That look has always meant that you were beginning to consider quitting whatever it was you were involved in. Please don't quit now. I still see the fun you're having when you're involved in a match, and it's something I haven't seen since your mother died. I want to continue to see that from you, but that can't happen if you quit now. You're happy with what you're doing, so it only makes sense for you to continue doing it. I know that if you continue to give it your all, you'll be the best wrestler in the world in no time. So keep pushing on and know that you have my support 100%.
Love,
Madame Duvale
