The scene opens up to Durham, New Hampshire. This place is the home to the University of New Hampshire, as well as the new home to one of professional wrestling’s most polarizing figures as of late. The man being referred to is none other than “Mr. Nice Guy” Jared James, a man who as of late has not quite been the nicest of individuals. Yet as we stare down Main Street here in Durham, watching as college students walk by with no care in the world other than finals which loom on the horizon, it seems as if this change in scenery for Jared James signifies a change in philosophy by the still young twenty-six year old competitor. Amongst all of the young adults hustling to class is the main focus of our attentions, Jared himself. He blends in relatively well despite his experience, still managing to keep his youthful experience despite the burdens the industry has pressed upon him over the course of his four and a half year career. Dressed in khaki slacks, a blue and white button-up flannel, and some loafers on his feet, Jared looks very similar to the students around him. Once he approaches us a slight smirk begins to spread across his face. Jared passes us after that, with a slight motion of the hand being the signifier that we are meant to follow him. He takes us through campus, navigating the grounds just as he had back during his does with Connecticut Forum Wrestling. A brief two minutes pass before James finally stops in front of the Memorial Union Building, where Jared plops down onto one of the concrete benches outside as he admires this unusually warm New England day.
Jared James
“My oh my, I must say it feels like an entirety since I last stood in front of a camera for a professional wrestling promotion here in the United States, and as an active member of the roster of all things!”
Jared allows the thought to trail off a little bit, taking in the air from the relatively close Atlantic Ocean.
“Then again, I suppose one never truly knows where his or her live is going to take them. After all, if you would have asked me precisely one year ago, I would have told you that I never thought I would have returned to Canada to compete in Simcoe County for an extended period of time. Nor would I have thought, of all possible things, that I would have assisted a Mr. Sean Douglas in the operations of one Rocky Mountain PRO. Let us not forget the fact that right here, right now, I am looking on the horizon and seeing my unlikely return to active competition here in the United States, after a full year of being on the sidelines, here on the East Coast!”
James looks out at the University of New Hampshire campus, with the sights of Stoke Hall, Hamilton-Smith Hall, and Hood House all being the main figures stood out. At one point, during Jared’s early career, this was home for him.
“This is all irrelevant though. One cannot dwell on the actions of the past, let alone where one thought things would end. All we as a society can do is live in the know, which is exactly what I intend on doing. After all, I have not made some of the wisest decisions over the past year since the closure of Connecticut Forum Wrestling… and I would love to do whatever is within my power to alter my legacy. Which is why, rather than enjoy life here in Durham and remain retired, I decided to make the logical decision and join FRONTIER Grappling Arts. I knew if I wanted my legacy in this industry to be rewritten, I needed to go to a place where my shenanigans of old would be long forgotten. Where the only thing that mattered about Jared James was his wins and losses, his skill level and whether or not the FGA Heavyweight Championship was around his waist.
Odd as it sounds, that is my sole reason to returning to active competition. No more drama, no more false promises… just my opponent and I, going at it one-on-one within the squared circle, each of us trying to prove our worth as well as make sure we do our very best for the fans. So, when FRONTIER Grappling Arts finally does announce its first card and things truly begin to kick into action… I feel it’s important for my critics to know that is what I am all about.”
A satisfy smile creeps across the face of Jared James, and this time it really does seem as if he means what he is saying. With no major championships to his name, Jared is well aware that he needs that one signature win to cement his legacy as one of professional wrestling’s greatest ever, as well as one of the best lightweights to have ever lived.
“I shall admit to you fine folks that my main reason for producing this video has nothing to do with my intentions for returning to the ring. I could have told you that at any point in time, honestly, and I had intended on doing just that. However, recent develops have caused me to decide that I needed to come out of my lovely little apartment and speak up for myself. You see ladies and gentlemen, amongst all of the current signings for FGA, I am the only known good apple of the bunch. Preston Blake, Chandler Scott, Evan Bodom, and Ace Andrews… well, they all have a bit of an ego issue. Only one of them though, a Mr. James Weck, seems to have the desire to get the action going before FGA officials even announce the first card.
For those of you are uninformed, or just opted not to watch the relatively dry piece that Weck posted on FGA’s website, apparently I did James Weck wrong. He clearly did not like my management style, and has since held a grudge. That is why he left Rocky Mountain PRO, and has come all the way here to FRONTIER… just so he can get his hands on me. He wants, at the inaugural edition of Wednesday Weekly Combat, to face yours truly in a one-on-one match. For all of my transgressions in RMP, Mr. Weck wants to have me pay. Well, while I would not normally give into the wishes of those who can’t keep their cool like James Weck, I feel as if the management of FRONTIER Grapping Arts would benefit greatly by having Jared James versus James Weck on the card for the first episode of Combat. So, with the approval of FGA management, I would like to accept the challenge James Weck has placed before me.
Because at the end of the day, if I am going to end up being FGA Heavyweight Champion someday, I will need to take on all comers in order to represent this promotion to the best of my abilities. So in order to show that I am worthy, I am going to give Weck precisely what he wants… and then some.”
With that Jared James gives off another smirk before standing up and working his way through the maze of concrete tables. He stops in the middle of a small entryway, looking back at the camera knowing what is at stake if FGA officials grant him this match. Another smile flashes before Jared James exits the screen, which leads to us fading off into black.
