[The scene opens up to crimson, followed by the Harvard “H”. Justice Young is sitting down in the locker room with Preston Blake. Once Justice is ready, he proceeds forward.]
Justice Young:
“Good evening, everyone. I'm Justice Young. And with me right now is one of the eight men who will compete in tomorrow night's Chase for the Crown Tournament to crown the first-ever Frontier Heavyweight Champion, Preston Blake. Preston, thank you for joining me.
Preston:
“The pleasure is all yours, Justice. You've been sending me mass e-mails. You've been blowing up my cell phone. My home home hasn't stopped ringing off the hook. You've even waited outside of my humble abode, ringing the doorbell at all odd hours of the night. If I didn't know any better, I'd think you were a stalker. But alas, I finally caved to give a man like you the time of day. I was expecting one of the greats to interview me. You know, Katie Couric, Matt Laurer, you know, someone of some importance to the world. A man such as yourself couldn't get picked out of a line up if you were wearing a cap with an orange bill. However, now that you're interviewing a member of the Harvard Elite, no longer will you be a man with barely any journalistic credibility to your name. Simply put, Justice, the pleasure is all yours.
Justice:
“Um...thank you?”
Preston:
“You're very welcome.”
Justice:
“In any event... as I stated earlier, you will be competing tomorrow at A New Odyssey to crown the first-ever Frontier Heavyweight Champion. How big of an opportunity is this for you?”
Preston:
“That's a rather ignorant question to ask, since the answer is fairly obvious. But you're still an amateur reporter trying to start out, so I'll cut you some slack and play on. It is a great opportunity to be one of the select few who have been granted this opportunity to compete in the Chase for the Crown tournament. Having myself and Chandler Scott picked for this tournament shows that the Frontier office has not only taste, but intelligence. They know of our work elsewhere. They know of the high caliber athletes that they are. They know what we can do inside those ropes whenever we step into a ring. As this company continues to grow over the next several weeks and months, it'll be key for this company's growth to have a top flight athlete that they can build around. It is key to their success that they have a reliable and dependable person to be the face of their new promotion. Frontier needs someone that can go into that ring week after week and can compete at a high level. Frontier needs someone that can be the franchise of their growing company. And when you take all of those things into consideration, there are variois choices you can chose. There are various men who can fit that role. However, there are only two who can actually do not just an adequate job, but an exceptional job. There are two men that more than fit the bill. And those two men are The Harvard Connection.
Justice:
“You speak about The Harvard Connection and that they are the best two men to lead this company going forward. Chandler mentioned something similar to this the other day. However, he also stated that at the end of the night, it would be him who walked out of New Jersey as the Frontier Heavyweight Champion. Do you care to respond?
Preston:
“I see. Its the old divide and conquer method. If you can’t beat them, then try and play them against each other so that they can tear each other apart. Not bad, not bad at all. Who paid you to say that, Jared James? Or was it Blaine Harrison? It doesn't really matter. All that matters is this. I know what Chandler Scott is capable of. He's a fine athlete, a good human being, and a hell of a wrestler to boot. I've known that man for years now. I know him better than anyone else here in Frontier. Hell, I'd even venture to say that I know him like the back of my hand. That means I know his strengths and his weakness. But it goes both ways, because he knows my strengths and weaknesses, too. He knows my positives and negatives what I'm good at and what to exploit against me. It's just a matter of who gets to who first and who can exploit their opponent the best. Because make no mistake about it, Justice, with the way this tournament has been lined up, myself and Chandler will be meeting up in the finals to determine the first Frontier Heavyweight Champion. We will put on a clinic, showing everyone in the toxic waste dump that is New Jersey what true wrestlers look like. We will show all of the has-beens, never-will-bes and the rest of the pretenders in the back what it takes to get to the top. Both myself and Chandler were bred to be winners. We have championship pedigree. And whether I win this championship or if I lose in the finals to Chandler, as long as a member of the Harvard Elite holds that gold at the end of the night, that belt will be in great hands.
Justice:
“Interesting take. Now, you mentioned how at the end of the night, it'll be you and Chandler vying for that vacant championship...”
Preston:
“Correct.”
Justice:
“So what do you make of everyone else in the field? What about the Blaine Harrisons, Scott Reaves, Jack Fleners and Michael Tomkins of the world? What about Jacques Mercier?”
Preston:
“What about them? The fact that I never even considered them threats should speak volumes.”
Justice:
“But....”
Preston:
“But nothing, Justice. But nothing. Scott Reave is a junkie who caught lightning in a bottle. Jack Flener is a no name pretending to be someone of importance. And Mercier brings absolutely nothing to the table. These are not champions. These are not the names of men who will lead the way. They are pretenders. They are losers, burnouts and wannabes. They are men that will never amount to anything, men that will never recapture the magic they once had, and men that are nothing but all talk. I do not respect those men. I do not fear those men. By some chance I happen to face them, be it in the semi finals or the finals, they will be dealt with accordingly.”
Justice:
“And what of Blaine Harrison?”
Preston:
“What about him? The only thing he seems to be good for protecting Jared James. Someone attacks Jared? Here comes Blaine to save the day. Jared is getting double teamed? Will here comes Blaine Harrison to his rescue. But I have a question for him. While Blaine is too busy saving Jared, who will be saving him? I think that's the question that needs to be asked. See, myself and Chandler never really had any issue with Blaine. But the moment he opened up his mouth and spoke ill will of us, even when we hadn't done anything to him, that was the moment that he became an enemy of ours. He started something that he knew he couldn't finish. But that's fine. We'll finish it for him once I kick his ass in the semi finals of the Chase for the Crown tournament.”
Justice:
“You certainly have shown no love for Blaine Harrison. I suppose the same could be said for Jared James, your opponent in the first round.
Preston:
“Of course it does, Justice. To say that I cannot stand the man would be an understatement. He isn't someone that I just don't like. He's someone that I don't respect. He's skated by on luck. He's gotten opportunities out of being a kiss ass. He's not the dominant wrestler that everyone makes him out to be.”
Justice:
“Sorry, Preston, I don't mean to interject, but the man does have the most wins out of anyone here in Frontier as we speak. Not to mention the fact that he's beaten both you and your partner.”
Preston:
“Nonsense! It was luck. It was all luck and nothing but! And don't you ever forget it! I've never seen a man back into so many victories in my life. It's like he's the New York Giants of wrestling. But it's fine. It's okay. Just like the Giants will get exposed by the Patriots in the Superbowl, Jared will get exposed when he steps into that ring with me tomorrow night. You've got to remember, I'm still in peak physical condition. He's a man still working out the kinks after coming off of an extended hiatus. Going against me will be bad enough. But if by some fluke that he makes it to the finals, then that means his already questionable stamina will really be put to the rest when he's forced to go up against three men in one night. I don't think Jared is mentally strong enough, emotional stable enough, and physically fit enough to wrestle three matches in one night and come away the winner. I don't think he has it in him. It's not in his genetic make-up Tomorrow night, Justice, I will prove Jared to be the fraud that he is. And myself and Chandler will show tomorrow that Harvard grads are just a little bit smarter, just a little bit more savvy, and just a little bit better than the rest of the competition. And that, my friend, is the truth!”
[The scene fades to crimson, followed by the Harvard “H”.]
