We slowly open up to the outside of a small budget motel located in the Monroe, New Jersey area. The weather is chilly outside, with a slight wind making it feel even cooler. We watch patiently as we see Jared James walk towards the building, it is clear that he has something in his hands. After further examination, it appears that Jared James has a GTS Hero cellular phone in his hands. It must be a new phone, for Jared at least, as we watch as he fumbles with trying to achieve whatever it is that he is trying to do. A few moments pass before we, with Jared, are inside the small lobby of the building. Here Jared is better equipped to achieve want he wanted to do, which is make a phone call. We can hear a slight ringing sound come from the phone, which causes Jared to smile confidently as he places it up against his ear. Jared James places the phone down on a small, slightly dirty, coffee table inside the lobby. A voice announces itself from the phone, which indicates to us that Jared James has put the phone on speaker.
Jared James
“Hey Johnny, how are you doing?”
For those uninformed, Jared James is referring to his cousin and former tag team partner, Johnny Holliday. These two have been through thick in thin, starting off back in Connecticut together, claiming numerous tag team titles over the past four and a half years.
Johnny Holliday
“I am doing alright Jared, just a little drowsy. We had a really early morning today, had to work on some big fancy house in Johnston. How is everything out East? FRONTIER Grappling Arts treaty you alright?”
A slight smile can be seen spreading across the face of Jared James.
Jared James
“I would say yes. Currently, after four matches, I am undefeated. And hopefully, in the next couple of weeks, I will be able to claim the first major heavyweight championship of my career at the first supershow.”
Johnny Holliday
“That is good to hear my man. But I have a feeling you aren’t calling me to boast about your recent success… are you?”
Jared can be seen blushing a little bit, as he feels Johnny knows the true reason for his calling today.
Jared James
“You got that right Johnny, that most certainly is not why I bothered calling you today… especially when you just got off work a little bit ago.”
Johnny Holliday
“Oh no worries Jared, I always have some time set aside for you. After all, for all I know, you could be calling me for a job opportunity again.”
Both Jared and Johnny begin chuckling, as they both know how many times Jared has called Holliday for a chance to work.
Jared James
“I wish that was the case Johnny, you could only imagine how much fun you and I would have tearing up New Jersey. No, the reason I am calling is because I met a girl last week. Here name is Rebecca Adams, and she is a student at the University of New Hampshire. Now you and I both know it has been a long time since I have dated anybody… and, I guess, I am just a little nervous about screwing this up.”
A brief chuckle can be heard from the phone. This causes Jared to have a slightly annoyed face across his face.
Johnny Holliday
“I know that is not funny cousin, you meeting a girl and all. I just happen to find it a little humorous that, of all the people to ask for relationship advice, you call me… a man who has been having difficulties with the ladies for years now.”
Jared James
“I know Johnny… but I trust you. Plus, honestly… I really have not had these sort of feelings for somebody since Kate.”
With that single mention, Johnny understands the severity of the situation. A long pause interrupts the flow that the duo had, which quickly becomes awkward as James just stares at the phone.
Johnny Holliday
“Well Jared, if that is what we are dealing with here… you know damn well what to do then. I hope for the best cousin, and I hope to hear back from you soon, but I do have to go. Take it easy, and good luck this week in FRONTIER.”
And just like that a click sound can be heard from the phone, with Johnny Holliday leaving us. Jared James just sits there, staring at the phone sitting atop the table. It is with this picture that we watch as the screen slowly fades off into black.

2:37 PM EST
We return about a day later, this time opening up to the Monroe Sports Center where we can see Jared James sitting inside the lobby of the building. James is dressed in a nice white button-up dress shirt, black slacks, and black dress shoes. The top button of his shirt is undone, giving off a bit more of a casual look. Jared also has his hair tied back into a ponytail, which sways as James turns around to face us. He is, once again, on the phone but it seems clear that this conversation is going to remain private and brief. A moment passes before Jared James hangs the phone up, which then leads him to casually walk on over to us. He smiles at us, and with his hand he motions for us to take a seat with him over by a small group of folding chairs that have been laid out. We comply, slowly making our way over to the chairs and taking a seat. Jared looks over at us, a smile spread across his twenty-six year old face.
Jared James
“Another week, another win.”
A slight chuckle escapes the lips of James.
“That, ladies and gentlemen, is what we saw last week on Combat. We saw yours truly, Jared James, picking up his fourth consecutive against the arrogant, elitist Chandler Scott. The same Chandler Scott who will be joining up with the likes of Preston Blake on commentary for my match this upcoming week on Combat. That match, which will be a hellacious contest that will surely steal the show, will see ‘Mr. Nice Guy’ Jared James face off against a man who I have come to admire and respect over the last two weeks, Blaine Harrison. But before I discuss Mr. Harrison, allow me to take a moment to comment on the upcoming eight man tournament that will be taking place in order to crown the first ever FGA Heavyweight Champion.
You see, after the announcement last week of the first round match-ups for this tournament, I could not help but grow extremely excited when I saw that my first round match was against a man whom I have already beaten since my arrival to FRONTIER. I am, of course, referring to Preston Blake… a man whose lovely voice we will all have the pleasure of hearing this week during my match. Now I do not plan on going to in depth here today, but I do want to give Preston Blake a heads up in regards to 2012 and the tournament that will be taking place. You see Preston, you may think that you have the edge facing me in the first round of this tournament. After all, I’ve been going at it hard since I first signed with FRONTIER Grappling Arts, competing on all four of FGA’s Combat programs. While you, Mr. Blake, have been able to sort of take it easy… resting quite a bit. You may think that gives you an edge, having fresh limbs and all… but you just wait and see what happens to Blaine Harrison tomorrow night in Monroe, New Jersey when I win my fifth straight here in FRONTIER. Then, then you will see that I am on top of my game Blake… so you better be ready.”
Jared winks at us, sending a sign to Preston Blake to be prepared for what he has in store for him at 2012: A New Odyssey. James knows, however, that he must stay sharp and focused on what Blaine Harrison has in store for him this week on Combat, especially if he wishes to come out of 2012: A New Odyssey with the FGA Heavyweight Championship belt wrapped around his waist.
“For now though ladies and gents, I need to keep my sights set on Blaine Harrison and what he is capable of doing to me this upcoming Wednesday night in Monroe, New Jersey. Now for those who have not been paying attention to the solid Mr. Harrison has had thus far here in FGA, they would not be familiar with a young man who can take nearly any competitor to their limit. I have seen him do it on a few occasions during his time here in FGA, and I fully expect him to push me to my limit this tomorrow evening in the Monroe Sports Center. Which means it will be solely up to me to be prepared mentally, physically, and emotionally if I want to walk out of Combat tomorrow night with a fifth straight victory, further positioning myself into a better spot heading into this eight man tournament.
Of course, if Harrison knows me as well as he says he does… then he knows darn well that I shall be prepared for tomorrow night. All week long I have been training back at my home in Durham, New Hampshire in order to fully prepare myself for what Harrison has in store for me.
Fortunately for my sake Blaine Harrison is a man of similar size to yours truly, and I have faced many men over the course of my career who are build like them. Most of them tend to think that their slight size advantage, as well as similar speed and agility to me, provides them with a pivotal edge in combat. Now I am not going to assume that Harrison thinks the same, as he seems to be far more intelligent than those other competitors who I have faced off against, but I will warn Harrison that any physical advantage he may perceive is only an illusion of his imagination. Despite standing at only five feet, eleven inches and one hundred ninety-seven pounds, Jared James is an athlete that most envy. I can do things both inside the ring and outside, physically, that men like Blaine Harrison would only envy. That is what has allowed me to survive in all sorts of environments, whether it be steel cages or sixty-minute matches.
Then again, I do not doubt that Blaine Harrison has experienced many challenges over the course of his five year career. I could only imagine that variety of men he has had to face off against, each of which presented a unique challenge inside the square circle. Which is why I know that, heading into tomorrow night, Blaine Harrison may end up being my toughest challenge yet here in FRONTIER Grappling Arts. He will force me to go to a place within me that I have yet to go to since 2010, a place that will truly prepare me for my upcoming contest against Preston Blake in the upcoming eight man tournament.
I am ready for the challenge though ladies and gentlemen, and am excited in anticipation for what Blaine Harrison can teach me inside that ring. I know him and I will do magical things together tomorrow night, and he is accurate when stating that this could be an early match of the year candidate here in FRONTIER. I just hope he understands the what will ultimately take place in that ring tomorrow night, inside this very venue, will be purely business.”
Jared gives off a brief chuckle, before getting up and walking on over to an entry way. We maneuver in order to see what Jared is looking out at, and what we see is the wrestling already set up inside. Another moment passes before Jared James turns back towards us and returns to his seat. He looks down at the ground for a moment after taking his seat, before finally returning his eyes and attention to us.
“Tomorrow night Blaine Harrison, you and I will be partaking in something that has gone on for ages. I am, of course, referring to the art of professional wrestling. And tomorrow night, we will be competing on Combat for completely different things. You will be looking to further establish yourself in this industry, to proof that you belong here. You are the underdog, after all, in this company… and you feel a victory against me will take you further than anything else you have done thus far in FGA. I, however, look to maintain the momentum I have build up for the past month or so, in order to make sure that I am at the top of my game when 2012: A New Odyssey finally arrives and eight men compete for the FGA Heavyweight Championship. And what happens tomorrow night, in this match against you and I, could very well change the course of this company… I hope you are aware of that as much as I am. However, I bring this up because I want not only you, but the rest of FRONTIER Grappling Arts, to be aware of what is at stake for tomorrow night. This is not just some friendly contest between two men who have good will towards one another. Because no matter how much I respect you Blaine, and trust me it is quite a bit after you saved my rear end last week on Combat, I will not give inside that ring. I have fought too hard for far too long to see all of my hard work squandered in some ‘friendly match-up’ with such little time before 2012: A New Odyseey and my chance at glory. Oh no Blaine, you will get to have the same sort of pain that Chandler Scott had last Wednesday night. You will witness the same level of intensity that Preston Blake experienced only a few weeks ago on Combat. And last, but certainly not least, you will experience the same outcome that James Weck experienced on two separate occasions…
Because even though I am Jared James, arguably the nicest man in professional wrestling, I am still a wrestler at the end of the day. Which means that I give one hundred ten percent each and every night I am inside the squared circle, no matter who the opponent is. So Blaine, despite the tremendous amount of respect I have for you, you will ultimately feel the pain come tomorrow night right here in the Monroe Sports Center in Monroe, New Jersey… because the stakes are still, to me, oh so very high.”
On that note Jared James gets up and walks on over to the archway once more, looking out into the dark room with the ring being lit by a sole light. With this image engrained into the minds of the FRONTIER Grappling Arts community, we slowly fade away to black.
