Shortly after the end of the Flashpoint broadcast in Denver, Colorado, one of the cameras shifts to the backstage area, where we find Logan Alexander making his way through one of the backstage corridors. He looks a bit better now than he did earlier after the backstage attack he’d been victim of and the in ring defeat he’d suffered, both at the hands of James Edwards. He slowly makes his way along to wherever his destination might be.
???: Logan!
Coming to a halt, Logan turns and glances back the way he’d come to see Amanda Johnson making her way towards him. She comes to a stop near him and holds up her microphone to him.
Amanda Johnson: Would is be possible to get a word with you?
He glances down at the mic, then closes his eyes and sighs softly.
Logan Alexander: I suppose so. There’s no shortage of topics for discussion, especially since it hasn’t been that good of a day for myself or Ashlyn.
Opening his eyes, Logan looks back up at Amanda.
Amanda Johnson: Yes… it certainly seems that it was a bad night for you. How are you holding up by the way?
He offers a slight shrug.
Logan Alexander: I’ve been worse. At least I’m upright and not being carted off to a hospital right now. Will probably have to take it easy this week though. It wasn’t smart to go out there and fight after I’d been cut open and put through a table to start the night.
Amanda Johnson: It was an impressive fight that you did put on against James Edwards though. You held your own throughout, even if you were hurt.
Logan Alexander: I didn’t get the job done though. I didn’t beat Edwards, so it was a wasted effort.
Logan shakes his head slowly.
Logan Alexander: Somehow it seems fitting with the way things have gone for me here in FGA that my first singles title match doesn’t end in my favour.
Amanda Johnson: Well, given the circumstances around it…
Logan Alexander: I have no need for excuses. I might not have been expecting to compete tonight. I was hurt and not at my best when the match started. Whatever. The fact is that I lost.
He blows out a breath.
Logan Alexander: First Neon, then Envi, and now Edwards.
Amanda Johnson: Well, I’m sure that after Only the Strong Survives, you’d be able to get another opportunity at Edwards or Salem for the United States title.
Logan snorts and rolls his eyes at that.
Logan Alexander: Yeah… sure.
Amanda regards his response with surprise.
Logan Alexander: Ashlyn and I had to make a big fuss about being a part of the Frontier Lions Cup last year, just so that we could be put into an opening round match against each other. Then, despite the fact that I made it to the finals of that tournament, I wasn’t offered a spot in the Beat the Clock challenge to decide on a new number one contender.
Logan frowns as he regards Amanda.
Logan Alexander: I was overlooked for such deserving competitors like Nina Stokes, Night Train Ayano, Zola Star, Cassius Reed, Jaelynn Ramsey, Ashlyn Sullivan, and Neal Durden. I’ve beaten the last four people I named in singles competition here in FGA. Three of them in the last six months. Two of them in the same night even. And, with all due respect to Savannah Taylor, who really believes that beating one of those people proves that you deserve a match for the International Heavyweight championship? If that was really the case, I would have an International Heavyweight title match in the near future. As it is, the only way I get a singles title match is to walk into an open challenge with someone that beat the heck out of me beforehand.
He lets out another breath in annoyance.
Logan Alexander: So, for me to have any faith in management to offer me any sort of title match is a joke. I’ll probably have to jump through a whole lot of hoops to even get a title match with the Fifteen champion. But despite my frustration with that, I’m not going to take any shortcuts to get ahead. I didn’t even go out to fight Edwards tonight because of the United States title. I fought him because he crossed a line with me earlier and made me angry.
Logan offers a bitter smile.
Logan Alexander: The funny thing though… is that I think Edwards was justified in what he did.
Eyes widening at that statement, Amanda is quick to follow up on that surprising statement.
Amanda Johnson: Wait… you think his backstage attack was justified?
Logan Alexander: Well, up to a point anyway, Amanda. Edwards has had pretty thin skin as of late and I tore quite a strip off him earlier. I would have been shocked had he not attacked me.
Logan smirks, but there isn’t any amusement behind it.
Logan Alexander: The trainers and a couple of members of the backstage crew filled me in on the details. I was a bit hazy on what happened after the initial headbutt. Had Edwards stopped there, or even after he hit me with his Violent Gospel… things would have been cool. I understood where his head was… and I was willing to give him some leeway.
His eyes narrow.
Logan Alexander: Then he escalated things. He wanted to send a message.
Closing his eyes again, Logan shakes his head for a few moments.
Logan Alexander: I know that tempers can run high and people will lash out, but if it’s justified and the punishment isn’t excessive, I usually don’t have a problem with it. Violence is a precision instrument after all. It’s a lesson I’ll be happy to teach Edwards one day.
Amanda Johnson: I... see…
Seeming a bit uncomfortable with where the conversation was, or might be going, Amanda changes tracks.
Amanda Johnson: Well, how about the encounter between you and Ashlyn De Luca earlier? You two seemed to have… some veiled criticism of one another after your match.
Logan snorts softly again.
Logan Alexander: I’ve said it before. Ashlyn and I see things very differently right now. It’s not the first time there has been friction between the two of us. We’ve been able to coexist through problems before and we can do the same here now. Sometimes, we do feel we need to remind each other to keep our priorities in order.
Amanda nods in response, seeming to accept his response at face value.
Amanda Johnson: With that in mind, can I have your thoughts on the match that Ashlyn had against the International Heavyweight champion, Jimmy Page a little while ago?
There are several moments of silence as Logan appears to consider his reply to that.
Logan Alexander: It was a pretty good showing for Ashlyn. She went out and was able to establish control against Page. She kept him on top of him for a long stretch of that match as well. She showed that she can hang with him in the ring.
Amanda Johnson:: What about the way that she conducted herself in the ring? She went out of her way to provoke Page early on again. She also was very lax with following the instructions of the official. We even saw a few shots of your reactions during the match, but I think everyone would like to hear your thoughts on it.
Logan Alexander: I don’t really like the way that Ashlyn has been doing things in the ring. I don’t like the games she plays with her opponents. I think she’s going a bit too far with bending the rules out there. The referee would have been well within his rights to disqualify her tonight, but those are judgment calls. Despite that though, Ashlyn has done all of this without actually breaking the rules. It’s how she looks to gain an advantage in the ring… and it works. Now, if she’d spent less time focusing on the crowd and instead stayed on Page out there tonight, I’m pretty sure that she could have been able to beat him there tonight.
Amanda Johnson: What about when Ashlyn tried to walk out of the match? It was much like what she tried to do at a New Odyssey during your match with Pendragon.
Logan regards Amanda with a look of annoyance as he replies.
Logan Alexander: Again, that’s not against the rules. I don’t personally approve of it, but Ashlyn can conduct herself however she sees fit. I’m not her keeper out there. But that does bring me to something that needs to be addressed… Where the heck does Lowri Moss get off interjecting herself into a match that doesn’t concern her at all?
Amanda is taken aback by the sudden outburst. Logan just presses right on though.
Logan Alexander: Lowri put her hands on Ashlyn in a match she was not involved in and had no reason to get involved in either. She did that in front of the referee too, but he just let it go… big surprise there. I will point out right now that Page gets the win regardless, but Ashlyn absorbed more punishment as a result of Lowri’s interference, something that directly benefits her going forward since Pendragon have been given another free title match with us. I know that everyone likes to go after Ashlyn for her conduct in matches, so will they hold Lowri’s behaviour out there to the same standard? I know that Ashlyn doesn’t run out to interfere in other people’s matches. So, would you care to tell me how Lowri running out there is fair, Amanda?
Amanda is searching for words, but a reply escapes her. Logan offers her a sympathetic look.
Logan Alexander: Yeah… that’s exactly what I thought. When we do something like that, we’re called out on it immediately, but when the tables are turned and we’re on the receiving end, people bend over backwards to excuse or disregard the same kind of behaviour.
Looking annoyed once more, Logan scowls as he continues.
Logan Alexander: Geoff mentions on commentary out there that Hadley has been gone since the start of the year. Yet, it still feels almost exactly the same for Ashlyn and I. We get shafted and people just turn a blind eye to it. Others get rewarded for less effort and worse results. We dare to succeed and get overlooked in response. After all, I can point out that the main event tonight started with the announcement that Pendragon were being gifted another title match against us? I mean really… what have Lowri and Neal done to receive this opportunity?
Amanda Johnson: Well, your match at a New Odyssey did end in a draw. I can only assume that because of that result, it was decided that Pendragon deserve another match.
Logan narrows his eyes at Amanda again.
Logan Alexander: Uh huh… and how did they earn that particular match?
He lifts his right hand and snaps his fingers, before pointing towards Amanda.
Logan Alexander: Oh yeah! They showed up on Flashpoint after getting beaten for the United States Tag Team championship and just assumed they were owed an opportunity here. One that they never earned because this is not Vertigo. So, Lowri and Neal are getting a rematch they don’t deserve, because they didn’t win a match that they never earned in the first place. Lowri and Neal haven’t won any tag team match when they’ve been across the ring from the Chaotics.
Amanda Johnson: Lowri stated that even though she and Neal were on the losing side on the last Flashpoint broadcast, she doesn’t think that changes since Savannah Taylor was the one who pinned Neal.
Logan Alexander: Of course. There are always excuses for coming up short, but you don’t see me making them, even when I have good cause to. But it doesn’t surprise me that Lowri is grasping at those sorts of straws. She keeps getting handed opportunities and keeps coming up short. Gee… Considering that, it’s not a wonder that Lowri ran down to get Ashlyn back in the ring. She wants us to be softened up for Only the Strong Survive so that she has a chance to avoid leaving empty handed once again. She knows that in our one straight up tag match that I pinned her clean and she was lucky enough to get a draw instead of a loss.
Amanda Johnson: I don’t think that’s an accurate statement regarding your New Odyssey match.
Logan Alexander: Really? Hold on a moment.
Logan reaches into his pocket and withdraws his phone.
Logan Alexander: After that match, I obsessed over the ending of it for weeks, Amanda. But let’s take another quick look at it here. I’ve got it saved here on my phone.
He holds up the phone so that the screen can be seen and the clip is in full screen mode.
Moss picks up Alexander and goes for a German Suplex when Alexander counters with a back elbow. He then performs a standing switch before shoving Moss into the ropes. When Moss comes back, he tackles her down with a spear! Alexander then pulls Moss up before taking control of her back. The crowd cheers as Alexander delivers the Chaotic Repeater (rolling German Suplexes)! After the fourth german, Alexander rolls back up and delivers a bridging German Suplex!
ONE!
.
.
TWO!
.
.
THREE!
Logan lowers the phone.
Logan Alexander: Now, yes, there were two different referees with two different angles and they saw my shoulders down and Lowri’s shoulders down. But what I would like to mention is that, Lowri did nothing that resulted in my shoulders being down. I was in control for the duration of that entire sequence and she was just along for the ride. So, I can say, with complete and total honesty that I pinned Lowri Moss clean in the middle of the ring. There are no ifs, ands or buts about it. It is simple incontrovertible fact. Meanwhile, Lowri cannot make any such statement. She did not pin me. She did not initiate the move that ended the match. It was not a counter or reversal on her part. The simple fact of the matter is that I wasn’t able to get my shoulder up after hitting the suplex. I took about half a second too long to do so. You can see that at the end of the video. It wasn’t in time, but I did get my shoulder up just after the three count. Lowri didn’t even manage that.
He takes his phone and puts in back into his pocket.
Logan Alexander: I’m not arguing that the match ended as a draw. I’m simply saying that Pendragon didn’t do anything to make that draw happen. They didn’t earn the end result. They lucked into it. Considering that they never earned that title match in the first place, I take exception to the fact that they are being given a free rematch. This is just another case of Herrera style favouritism in order to try and get our titles onto a team that management is biased towards.
He lets out another snort before continuing.
Logan Alexander: Must be nice to know that no matter how much you fail that you’ll just be handed another chance to blow it down the road. This is just like it was with Team Herrera. So, it looks like Ashlyn and I will have to take care of things with Pendragon the same way. Lowri and Neal have been looking for this match for two and a half months, saying that they had unfinished business, and finally management caved in and gave it to them. Tonight though, Lowri managed to do what Edwards did and piss me off, just in a different way.
Logan glares at Amanda. She eases back from him a bit.
Logan Alexander: At Only the Strong Survive, I’m going to do everything in my power to put her and Neal in their place. I’ve made Neal submit. I’ve pinned Lowri. I haven’t lost a match against either member of Pendragon and I don’t intend to start now. Lowri likes to get involved in matches and title pictures that don’t involve here, so I’m going to introduce her to the consequences of such actions.
Turning away, Logan looks about to walk away, but he pauses to say something over his shoulder.
Logan Alexander: Chaos Theory predicts that there will be hell to pay for Pendragon… and they are going to find out that everything they’ve gotten here isn’t worth the price.
With that, Logan starts walking, leaving Amanda there to ponder where his statements are going to lead to as the scene fades to black.
???: Logan!
