Backstage in the Quicken Loans Arena, we come across the form or Amanda Johnson apparently in hot pursuit of her latest person of interest. Without breaking stride as the cameraperson hurries to keep up Amanda calls out to someone ahead of her.
Amanda Johnson: Logan, may I get a word with you?
Looking past Amanda, the camera focuses on the figure of Logan Alexander, fresh off his match only a few minutes before, as he turns to look towards her. After wiping some sweat from his forehead with the back of his left hand, he nods to her in acknowledgement
Logan Alexander: Certainly Amanda. What’s the topic of discussion for today?
Finding one half of the World Tag Team champions in a talkative and agreeable mood for once draws a smile from Amanda.
Amanda Johnson: Well, I thought I could offer congratulations for your win over Johnny Karma earlier tonight.
He nods to her as he replies.
Logan Alexander: Thank you for that.
Amanda Johnson: You’re welcome. I’m sure it comes as a surprise to most long-time fans of FGA to see that play out here, as Johnny was viewed as the favourite in your match, and very likely as a favourite in the tournament as a whole. But what are your thoughts about that match?
Glancing aside for a moment, he considers his response. He then looks back to Amanda.
Logan Alexander: Honestly… I’m ecstatic about that victory out there. It’s validation for me after so much frustration during the past year. Things played out about as well as could be expected for me. I went move for move with Karma out there. We had similar game plans and were both able to execute them effectively out there. He’s going to be hobbling around for a few days and my arm is going to be bothering me for most of the week I’d bet. In the end, my strategy is the one that paid off. It gave me an opening right at the end and I made it count. The crowd was shocked by the result… but they appreciated that match. They booed me as was expected, but there was a grudging respect for the performance that they witnessed in that match.
Logan offers a smirk to the camera briefly before continuing.
Logan Alexander: And on that note… I still don’t like Karma personally because of what he did against Ashlyn back in January but I’ll admit that, from one ring general to another, he’s got my respect inside the ring.
Amanda is visibly caught off guard by that statement and then says as much.
Amanda Johnson: That’s… surprising to hear you say.
Logan snorts softly.
Logan Alexander: Oh, I’m sure. There’s a pretty long list of people here on Flashpoint that figure I should be giving them the respect they think they are owed. But they aren’t Johnny Karma. He has earned the benefit of the doubt on that one.
Amanda nods slightly in response before moving on.
Amanda Johnson: Well, with your victory, you’ve now advanced on to the quarterfinals of the Frontier Lion’s Cup. What are your thoughts of that road ahead of you?
Logan considers that question for a few moments and lets out a breath as he does so.
Logan Alexander: Pretty much, I think that even after beating Johnny Karma, things don’t get any easier from this point on. I may have edged out the top ranked seed in the tournament arguably, or at least just the top ranked one on the Flashpoint side of the brackets, but that guarantees nothing for me going forward. All of the other favourites from Flashpoint are gone at this point, so it’s really open for anyone to move on to the finals from our half of the bracket. All the big names are left on Vertigo’s side now. Sullivan, Reed, Majima and I all have a big opportunity here, even if none of us actually wins the tournament. Just being Flashpoint’s representative in the finals would be a huge step upwards for any of us. That’s what I’m keeping in mind going into next weekend. It makes the possibility of failure a bit more palatable… but by no means is that what I want to have happen. To make that happen though, I have really got to step up.
He folds his arms over his chest and smiles.
Logan Alexander: So, perhaps for the next day or so, I’ll enjoy the victory I got here tonight, but after that, it’ll right back to work preparing for Final Frontier. I’ve got one to three matches to get prepped for and after the win I just got, my expectations just got a lot higher. Losing to Cassius Reed isn’t really an option anymore. Just getting to the semis to face a member of Triple A or Smart Style isn’t going to be satisfying if I can’t pick up a win there either. I’ve got to push through to the end now to make this all worthwhile and turn that moment that happened out there tonight into something more. Like you said Amanda, to the vast majority of people, my story in the Frontier Lion’s Cup was expected to end here tonight. Instead… I’ve turned the entire situation on its head. Now, I’m looking to write out a few more chapters and include a triumphant ending for myself as well. And right now… I believe I can make that happen. I know that there are seven other people who think and feel the same way. We’re all staring up at the prize, but I’m the only one left in this tournament that has beaten someone with FGA World champion credentials to get here.
Logan’s smile gets a bit bigger.
Logan Alexander: Logan Alexander: Now everyone left in this tournament knows that I’m capable of beating them, and on top of that, I was able to beat Ashlyn, who knows me better inside the ring than anyone else on the planet right now. I’ve shown what I can do and what challenges I can overcome. In one week’s time, I guarantee that just like tonight, I’m going to give everything I have in order to defeat three more opponents and lay claim to the Frontier Lion’s Cup. And if anyone else thinks that they can stop me from doing…
He slowly turns towards the camera, looking with a bit more smugness as he does so.
Logan Alexander: … I look forward to seeing you in one week.
With that done, Logan turns his attention back towards Amanda.
Logan Alexander: Now… if you’ll excuse me, I’d like to go and catch up on the rest of the main event.
Amanda nods in response.
Amanda Johnson: Oh, of course. Thank you for your time Logan.
Logan nods to Amanda and offers a casual wave to the camera before he turns away and begins walking off as the scene fades to black.
