There Is No Peace Without War

(The scene opens with a black screen and the sounds of war. Explosions. Automatic weapon fire. Ammunition piercing flesh. Muffled screams of agony. Orders to seek cover. More sounds of war then merciful silence. The darkness gives way to the Fallen Angel sitting nonchalantly on a seat of some unknown locale. He stares back at the camera with a stoic mask of white facepaint before he breaks his silence with a chilling raspy voice.)
FALLEN ANGEL: “Then war broke out in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. But the dragon was not strong enough to prevail, so there was no longer any place left in heaven for him and his angels. So that huge dragon - the ancient serpent, the one called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world - was thrown down to the earth, and his angels along with him.”
(The Fallen Angel pauses and looks out in the darkness around him for a moment before returning his eyes to the camera.)
FALLEN ANGEL: “And thus I am here, appropriately, in the City of Angels, waiting for the day when all will be judged for their transgressions. But before judgment day comes, I must find my soul here in 3GW so I will not face the same fate as the dragon who failed me. I must bring justice to others so that justice may be done for me. So at Thursday Night Challenge, I begin my earthly quest by facing ‘The Peacemaker’ Echo Rigby.”
(Another pause.)
FALLEN ANGEL: “You poor child. Why do you seek peace amongst the violent? This is no place for a child like you? Why allow yourself to be corrupted? A child of pure intentions should not have to face a being like the Fallen Angel. I will soil your soul. I will bring judgment upon you that is unnecessary; judgment you do not deserve.”
(The Fallen Angel looks down for a second then looks back at camera with a slight somberness.)
FALLEN ANGEL: “Unless you’re searching for your father. A fatherless child always searches for her daddy. And even though he might never appear, the urge to search for him is insatiable. This is why you walk among the violent, first in LDFC, and now in 3GW. For war is actually the father of peace. So you maybe you’re really not a peacemaker… but the daughter of war, a warmonger.”
(Now a sinister expression forms on his face.)
FALLEN ANGEL: “To pretend that peace is a more natural state for humanity than war is to exercise a great deal of denial regarding human nature. Humans are no more creatures of peace as us angels. We both have free will. And as long as free will exists, there will be creatures who prey on others, and creatures who must study the art of war in order to resist them.”
“You see, Echo, there can’t be peace without war, because war is a necessary prerequisite to peace. Peace is not a higher moral state or the absence of war. It is the product of wars and conflicts that have been successfully won. Or it is the product of the threat of violence and war. Peace is the product of violence and force. Anyone who pretends otherwise is lying to themselves.”
“To perpetuate peace, it requires more than mutual understanding, tolerance and a willingness to join hands and dance in a circle with a rainbow of colors. Those things can only come about after a great deal of violence, and also often represent a society that is no longer in touch with the realities of the world and its own need for survival. Because as long as violence remains within human nature, and as long as it represents an effective tool for conquest, dominance and acquisition, we must not only know war, but be the best at it that we can be.”
(The Fallen Angel smirks at the thought of finding Echo Rigby’s true intention.)
FALLEN ANGEL: “This is why you are in 3GW. You have deceived everyone into believing you are here to promote love and peace when in reality you are looking to be daddy’s little girl searching for your birthright in the ring.”
“Fine. So be it. If you need war in order to bring about peace, I will give you war at Thursday Night Challenge. I will give you your birthright. But remember, Echo Rigby, war comes at a cost. Freedom is not free. It will always cost someone something. Are you ready to pay that price?”
(He opens his hands out as he asks the question.)
FALLEN ANGEL: “I’m here to collect. See you, Thursday, Echo.”
(Slow fade out.)
