The scene opens to show Rab sat at a table outside Hennessey's Tavern, by Hermosa Beach.
‘I could very happily just sit here all afternoon and evening, enjoying some drinks in undisturbed tranquillity. However, for the next few minutes at least, I need to talk about my upcoming match.’
Rab is wearing a pair of black shorts and a red t-shirt.
‘My first match in 3GW didn’t end the way I would’ve liked it to, so this week it’s time for me to make amends for that, when I team with Maritza Diaz, against the debuting Gold Star Connection: Lukas Gold and Layla Star.’
Rab wraps his right hand around a bottle of beer that is in front of him, on the table.
‘After Maritza and I were forced to be opponents for a second time, in our match two weeks ago, I’m happier to now have her be my partner, instead.’
He then has a swig from the bottle.
‘I’ve never competed in a tag team match before now, so this was always going to be quite a test for me, and having two opponents that are an established team only adds to the challenge. In Maritza though, I do at least have a partner I know I can rely on - someone who, should things go south, I know will have my back, which is one less issue for me to have to contemplate. I mean, I’m not expecting this match to get out of hand, but if it does, I know I have a partner that will stand shoulder to shoulder with me, and who will give as good as she gets.’
Rab takes another drink from his bottle, before placing it back on the table.
‘I saw the interview that the Gold Star Connection gave following the first 3GW show, so I heard Lukas state that he and Layla are targeting the tag team titles, which I suppose isn’t really a surprise. Listening to Lukas say that reminded me of the bloke that Maritza and I were in the ring with in our previous match - you know, he who left 3GW after one match, and whose name I’ve already forgotten. Sure, he may have won that match, but where is he now?’
Rab shrugs.
‘He made statements about gunning for championships, but he had his five minutes of fame, and then he fu...flew off; Lukas, Layla, whatever happens on Thursday - and obviously I intend to have your debut in 3GW be an unsuccessful one - I hope you two stick around long enough to actually try to realise your title aspirations, unlike whatshisname.’
Rab smiles wryly.
‘I’m not thinking about winning titles - I’ll leave that to everyone else - I’m simply thinking about trying to win matches. You see, after the outcome of my last match, I’ve now lost more times than I’ve won in my admittedly short career, and I want to put that right quickly; losing is a bad habit for any professional athlete, and it’s a habit that I want to get out of at the earliest opportunity - which means, I need to win this match on Thursday. I know that the Gold Star Connection will start the match as favourites - as I mentioned earlier, they’re the established team - but that doesn’t mean I’ve given up hope of me and Maritza winning.’
Rab shakes his head.
‘The Gold Star Connection are partners inside and outside the ring, so they may well have better chemistry than Maritza and I do, but one thing I can say for certain, is that they can’t match our collective power; we are stronger...th…’
Rab pauses.
‘On second thought, I’d better not finish that sentence - I don’t want to steal Maritza’s lines.’
Rab winks.
‘In Scotland, if a bloke said he wanted to be a cheerleader, he would promptly get the crap beaten out of him. I’m going to avoid the temptation, though, to mock Lukas for having been a male cheerleader. Besides, I’m sure there are things he could poke fun at me for - like having a top-knot.’
Rab smirks. He then scratches his head.
‘Where do cheerleading competitions take place, anyway? A cheerleading court? A cheerleading pitch?’
He frowns.
‘Never mind.’
He then shrugs again, and continues.
‘Lukas, Layla, I’m not going to sit here and tell you, “this ain’t cheerleading,” because you’re both already well aware of that. However, I doubt that you’ve come across anyone quite like this mad Scot in your wrestling careers so far, and on Thursday, perhaps I’ll help you relive some of your cheerleading stunts, by swinging you around the ring, on my way to victory.’
As Rab smiles at the camera, the scene fades to black.
