The scene opens to reveal Rab stood on Cabrillo Beach, with his back to the camera, watching the sun go down.
‘I could get used to this.’
He is wearing a pair of white shorts and a replica Heart of Midlothian F.C. jersey.
‘In recent years, I’ve been a bit of a nomad, living in a number of different places, none of them for very long. My stay in Greensboro was shorter than I expected, although that was due to circumstances beyond my control. Here I am now though, in Los Angeles: a fresh start, in a new city - and I want to announce my arrival in the City of Angels by making an instant impact in 3GW, with a win on Thursday.’
Rab turns to face the camera.
‘Alright there! How's it going? For those of you that didn’t follow Lion's Den Fighting Championships, my name is Rab McKinley, and in three days’ time I’m going to be involved in a triple threat match, against AJ Wolfe and Maritza Diaz.’
Rab scratches his forehead.
‘Thinking about this match gives me a feeling of déjà vu: at the beginning of June, Maritza was my opponent in my first match in Lion’s Den - in fact, it was the first match in Lion’s Den for both of us; three and a half months later and we’re opponents again, on the first 3GW show - I just hope it really is a case of déjà vu, with me again being the one that gets their hand raised at the end of the match.’
He rubs his chin.
‘Maritza and I have both definitely improved since that previous match. I was particularly impressed by her win against Miles Bishop - someone who had beaten me just a couple of weeks earlier. She followed that up with another win, against Keegan Hightower - which is also not to be sniffed at.’
Rab nods.
‘As Maritza’s friend, it’s been pleasing to watch how she has progressed. And as her friend, I don’t really want to be the one to put a stop to her current momentum - but unfortunately I’m going to have to fill that role, because I don’t want to start life in 3GW with a loss.’
He then shakes his head.
‘I didn’t enjoy having to fight Maritza last time, and I doubt I’ll enjoy it this time, either. Needs must though, I suppose. Hopefully I’ll be able to get the better of Maritza again, although I know she’ll provide me with an even more difficult challenge than last time; whatever does happen, I’ll be glad to get this match out of the way, and to move onto the next one.’
Rab lets out a sigh.
‘My other opponent in this upcoming match - AJ Wolfe - is someone I’m a lot less familiar with, which brings a different challenge. Now, I’m not the sort of wrestler that spends lots of time studying footage of their opponents - I tend to do things on the fly - but even so, back when we were at the training center, in Lion’s Den, I would get to see all the other trainees, and so whoever my opponent was, I would have a fair idea of what I was going to be up against. With AJ Wolfe though, that won’t be the case.’
Rab frowns.
‘Oh well, maybe once I enter the ring I’ll just start throwing haymakers, and see where that gets me - it’s been known to work in the past.’
He then gives a nonchalant shrug.
‘One of the things I have heard regarding AJ Wolfe, is about some of the brawls he has gotten caught up in, even having a brush with the law. The question that needs to be asked though is, can he do it on a cold night in Glasgow?’
The Glaswegian chuckles to himself.
‘AJ Wolfe, if you want to slug it out with someone in 3GW, I’ll be more than happy to oblige. I warn you though, you won’t like the outcome: you’ll be left staring up at the lights, after being on the receiving end of a Glasgow kiss.’
He smirks.
‘Regardless of what I may or may not know about you, AJ Wolfe, one thing I think I can be certain about, is that you want to win our match on Thursday. However, I’m afraid I can’t allow that to happen. Maritza winning, I can accept - she’s a friend. But you?’
Rab shakes his head again.
‘It’s nothing personal - I’m just not willing to let you be the one to spoil my first appearance in 3GW.’
Rab crosses his arms.
‘I’ll see you - and Maritza - on Thursday.’
The scene then fades to black.
