Kabukicho, (Shinjuku, Tokyo) Japan
April 30th, 2015 - 3:04am
Kabukicho, the Red Light District of Shinjuku was really a city that never sleeps, one of the busiest areas of Tokyo around the clock it was the place the residents of Japan came to get away from everything and have a good time. It was also the place Joe Shamrock had tracked Yun Goeun too, after she had gone missing 4 days ago. He was used to Yun just hopping a plane and leaving when her moods shifted, this was the third time in the last year she had done this. He was so used to it he now had GPS tracking in her phone so he could show up and save her from her self.
When ever Yun vanished, she would always turn up somewhere doing something completely stupid. The last time this happened, he had tracked her to Busan South Korea before, where she decided to go hiking in the middle of no where for 4 days. These were always triggered by something emotional which is why he knew tracking her was what would be best for her in the long run, even if it was a little bit creepy.
He liked to joke this is why you don't give emotional naive girls money. She gets a mood swing, she heads to the airport and takes off for parts unknown. If she didn't have money she would just go to the local bar and get shit faced like the rest of the world.
Shamrock walked down the busy streets of Kabukicho, glancing every so often at his phone to make sure he was heading in the right direction. He was amused by her choice of Kabukicho, it was a place he knew all too well from his youth, a place he had told her about many times. After a few minutes of walking he came to the building he was sure Yun was inside of.
"Fuck..." Shamrock says to him self looking up at the building's neon sign that reads "STARDUST" - "Of all the places you could be, seriously Yun..." he said under his breath, looking over the building. He was quite familiar with The Stardust, it was a yakuza run host club. It was in operation even back in the 80s when he last roamed these streets. He doubted it changed much in that time, especially since not much in Kabukicho wasn't run by the yakuza.
Shamrock walks up to the doorman who quickly stops him, "You may want the host club a few blocks over, sir." the doorman says to him, in broken English. Shamrock smiles a bit and responds, in Japanese.
<"I'm looking for a girl."> he tells the doorman.
<"This also isn't the right place, then."> the doorman responds to him, <"The owner of this club owns a hostess club just down the road,> The door man points to building, also lit up in neon signs about four buildings down on the opposite side of the road, <"You may find that more to your liking.">
<"No, no, I am looking for a customer whom is at this club right now."> he says to the doorman, with a slight smile. He is getting annoyed but trying his best not to show it.
<"Oh, I'm really sorry though but we can't let you in. If you describe the woman too me, I can go find her and give her a message?"> the doorman explains to him.
<"That is fine, uh what are you..."> he starts to ask, looking the guy over for a moment, <"Dojima? Nishiki?">
The doorman lets out a laugh, "Neither, sir. This is a legitimate business.">
<"I'm sure it is, here hold on one second..."> Shamrock says to the man as he pulls out his wallet, after a few moments of fumbling with it, he pulls out an old worn business card and hands it to the man at the door who looks at it for a second then hands it back to him.
<"Very well, it is Dojima, by the way."> the doorman responds, looking suddenly VERY amused as Shamrock puts his wallet away. <"Right this way sir."> the man says as he steps away from the door, and allows Shamrock to enter. Joe simply bows to him and enters into the host club.
Inside is a tangle of people, largely made up of older women fawning over attractive men, who for the most part are playing the roles of idiots, listening to the woman talk and pouring them drinks. Shamrock looks from table to table, getting weird glances as he does, until he finds Yun sitting at a table with three different guys. He lets out a loud audible groan.
As he approaches, he can tell she is obviously smashed. He is quite versed in telling how drunk Yun is just by looking at her, an right now her cheeks were bright red which is the highest stage of "Drunk Yun" that Yun hits before it becomes "Passed out Yun" - Yun is so lost in the three guys, she never notices when Shamrock sits down at the table with her.
She doesn't either, as she holds her empty glass up to him, <"Could I get one more of these?"> she says to him, slurring her speech badly. The three men at the table eye him up, the one across from him at the table leans in to talk to Joe.
<"You new? I didn't know we had any foreigners. This girl is so drunk right now, she is going to be a gold mine. Just smile and keep pouring her drinks, you will make a killing. Welcome to the club!"> the guy leans back to Yun and picks up the bottle she was drinking from, about to pour her another glass.
<"Put the bottle down."> Shamrock says to him, who smiles and nods to him, handing him the bottle right after. Shamrock let out a groan and placed the bottle back on the table, the guy got the wrong idea... Yun though, as drunk as she was, recognized his voice right away.
"Fuck..." she blurts out. "What the hell are you doing here?"
"Saving you from maybe the dumbest thing I've seen you do yet..." he responds, the three guy quickly realize he know her and scatter quickly. Yun had never actually seen guys move that fast before and would have been amused by it if she wasn't annoyed. "Well, you just killed the mood."
"So, seriously, why here?" Shamrock asks her.
"I needed to get away, clear my head." she responds, tapping her glass, sighing over the fact that it was empty.
"So you fly to Shinjuku?" Shamrock says in response to her, his voice very flat at this.
"You always said it was the place to go if you needed to get rid of your troubles." she says, still slurring her speech pretty badly.
"And you have troubles?" he asks in return.
"Yep, like right now my glass is empty and you chased away the eye candy." Yun says with a smile.
"What's wrong?" he asks, ignoring her previous outburst.
"I think I am breaking up with Sebastian." she says, very matter-of-factly
"You think? What happened?" he asks her.
"Listen, I don't know nor do I want to talk about it. Okay? I have a hotel room down the block, the only hotel on this street that doesn't pay by the hour, room 107, meet me there later and we'll go home? Right now I just want to be left alone and make some mistakes, okay?" Yun says, she knew he wouldn't leave with out a fight about it though...
"Okay, fine. " he says, getting up with out a second word. This took Yun by surprise, but she was happy he was gone. The second he was out of sigh, she waved one of the guys back over to her table.
Shamrock just walked out of the club, with out taking a second look back at Yun until he got back to the doorman. As he approached him, he tapped the guy on the shoulder, <"Hey, listen buddy. I need a girl removed from here. Lets call it a favor?">
<"I would love to help you out, but I just can't. Shit has changed in recent years, the paying customer is valued more now than loyalty. As long as she is paying, I can't get her kicked out with out it coming back on my head."> he explains to Shamrock, bowing as he says it.
<"She's Korean."> he says, with a very big smirk on his face.
<"Oh... Wait right here."> the guy says, bowing again as he walks into the club.
A few moments go by then from inside the club you can hear Yun yelling at someone, on the top of her lungs, in Korean. Almost seconds after that, she comes storming out of the club, looking very angry. She starts to storm off but spots Shamrock outside the door.
"I got kicked out! OF A FUCKING HOST CLUB!" she says loudly, spitting on the ground in front of the doorman, who just stepped back outside. "Why are you still here, I told you to wait for me at the hotel."
"Come on, we need to sober you up." he says, grabbing her by the shoulder and pulling her away from the doorman, Shamrock turns and gives him a thank you nod, then walks her off down the street, there was a cafe around the corner 30 years ago that had amazing coffee, he hoped it was still there.
"Wait, you got me kicked out! Didn't you?" she says, realizing the bro code head nod he just gave to the doorman, "How the fuck did you manage that?" Yun says, looking very angry.
"Never underestimate the racism of the Japanese mafia." he says sarcastically to him self, "I just told him you were Korean. You would be surprised how well that works around here."
"...you're white!" she yells out, looking even angrier. She wanted to slug him, but held back. She had just gotten that really hot guy back over to her table... She was going to ask him out for an after hours date... though she couldn't remember his name... was something with an R.
"And you are observant, did you just realize this now?" he says in full sarcasm mode.
"... FUCK YOU." she screams at him. She was more drunk than he thought. She was in Angry Yun Phase, which was one of the dreaded forms of Drunk Yun, all her friends knew exactly how much booze she could consume before she became this Yun. She was trained to be the "Baddest Female" in Seoul when she was in character, when she was this drunk though the lines of her Kpop persona and her real self blurred in her mind.
"Okay, come on..." he says, pushing her down the road, in the distance he saw the coffee shop, thankfully still there. As expected though, not much about Kabukicho has changed.
Shamrock forces Yun to sit down at a booth in the cafe, then orders her the strongest coffee on the menu. After ordering he sits down across from her. He could tell she was still mad. He ignored that though, "So, talk to me about Sebastian." he says to break the silence.
"He is a fucking asshole!" she screams at him, "Just like you."
"Okay, maybe a little less aggression." he says to her.
"He says he respects my choices, but I can tell my decision not to fuck him is really bothering him. You fucking Americans are so horned up, you have fucking teenagers getting pregnant and you glorify it with a TV show, all you think about is sex sex sex, that when someone like me comes along, I'm a fucking prude! I could tell he was thinking it! I could tell just how annoyed he was getting now being allowed to stick his dick in me! I ASSURE YOU IF I WAITED HE WOULD RAPE ME." she yells the last part out loud, just as the waitress walks up with the coffee. Shamrock was so thankful she didn't seem to understand English.
"Jesus, eat a snickers Yun. You become a raging bitch when you're hungry." he says sarcastically, she just rolls her eyes at him. "You've known Sebastian how long? You know he loves you for who you are and with out question respects your choices. I mean I am pretty sure he is scared shitless of me, so that factor alone would almost guarantee he was never about to "rape you," Yun. Seriously, Sebastian loves you." he says to her.
Yun takes a big sip of the coffee, and puts the cup back down on the table, glaring at Shamrock. "He's changed so much over the last few months. At first I thought it was just the grind getting to him, but the more he changed the more I KNEW it was me causing it. He is not the person I fell in love with " she says, her voice completely distant now, showing none of the anger from before.
"I can't talk about any of that, you know him better than I do. But he is under a lot right now, injury, trying to restart his career. " he responds to her.
"I know, but... he has been so cold to me. He has gotten colder as time has gone on." she says, taking another big sip of her coffee.
"And this is why you think it is your fault, because you won't sleep with him?" Shamrock asks her.
"Yes. I've asked Erin, he is the same with them as he has always been. It seems to only be me whom he has been acting different around. I can't... it hurts okay? Everyone expects me to be this big tough girl, but I've never BEEN in love before, I don't know how I am supposed to feel about things! All I know is I am confused and that this is the worst pain I have ever felt in my life. Worse than any injury I have ever had. I can't take him being cold and distant to me anymore, so I made up my mind that I was going to break up with him. But I lost my courage so I just had to get away and clear my head..." she says to him, trailing off a bit as she talks.
"That is why I had to leave. I needed to think, I needed to see how I really felt about him and if it was worth sticking around for." she finishes telling him.
"So you came to Host Club in Shinjuku to decide if you were still in love with him?" he asks her, holding back a laugh.
"No, I came to Shinjuku to just get away from people who knew me, and as I said you've told me Shinjuku is a great place to do that in. I went to a bar, to get shit faced and figure out if I loved him. It was there I had the brilliant idea to go to a host club to sleep with one of those guy, that maybe if I could distance love and sex in my mind, that maybe I could finally... Well needless to say I just got more drunk there and realized how fucking dumb of an idea that was..." she says, blushing a bit, completely embarrassed by how dumb of an idea that really was. Saying it aloud made her realize it was even wore than she thought.
"It was a dumb idea, those guys would have never slept with you. Their not paid to sleep with you." he says, laughing out loud now. Yun was not amused though. "Sorry, so did you break up with him?" Joe asks.
"No, not yet, I don't know. I just need to think about it more, but when I am sober. I love him, Joe. I just don't know if I love being with him anymore... I don't know, I just wish I was not this confused..." Yun says, staring out the window.
"You need to sit down and talk to him, this is your first relationship, as you said. You don't know what you are doing and you need to tell him that. If something is wrong you two need to talk about it, what you don't nee to do is come to Japan, get shit faced, and accuse him of trying to rape you. " he says with a smile.
"Fuck you." she says, in a laugh.
"Ah, there is Bitch Yun again. Come on, let us get you back to your hotel room. You need to sleep this off and sober up, quickly. I'll arrange the plane tickets." he says with a laugh, a loud laugh.
"Wait, why are we going back so soon? You just got here, and I don't really feel like going to bed." Yun says, after finishing her coffee.
"Oh, yeah... You have a match... In like 3 days. Ya know, one that you kind of need to be there for, as part of a contractual obligation. I assure you, you do not want to wrestle both hung over AND jet lagged. That is just asking your opponent to send you to the hospital." Shamrock explains to her.
"... I forgot all about FGA..." Yun said, with a complete blank stare on her face. She felt her self getting sober just from that news alone. She was suddenly very glad he showed up when he did, other wise she might have really kept on drinking, and if she did that who knows what would have happened. Maybe she drinks right through the match, maybe she wrestles completely hung over (and Jet lagged) but fuck, she realized right there how badly she screwed up.
"You're young, and honesty a bit..." Yun cuts him off.
"Stupid?"
"I was going to say Naive, but stupid works I guess. You are allowed to make a few mistakes, that is what makes us who we are. But we really should stop talking about it and get you out of here." as he says this he stands up and offers his hand to Yun, who uses it to help her self get up.
Yun starts to stumble to the exit, "So who am I facing anyway? How bad is Miyoko going to rip me a new one for missing this much gym time?" Yun asks.
"Maurice Graham. I am pretty sure she is going to kill you. You won last time out, you know how in her mind that means you need to train more, she would call this lapse here, getting cocky and resting when you should be working." he laughs.
"...The Machine? Yeah, she probably will. I saw him wrestle, he is a hell of a fighter and a wrestler. Fellow martial artist like my self, Miyoko is going to kick me in the head for not preparing for him. Maybe I can get some quick gym time in to try to prepare for him, maybe we can get some of his matches on the plane back for me to study? So maybe Miyoko doesn't hurt me too bad?" Yun says, stumbling out into the night air.
"Oh, you are going to show up to train hung over, I can assure you, you do not escape from this unscathed. Either Maurice is going to beat your ass or Miyoko is, but fully expect to get your ass beat this week." Shamrock laughs on top of his lungs now.
"You should have just left me here." Yun says, with a fake air of horror in her voice, "Say how the fuck DID you find me here?"
"GPS in your cell phone, I tracked you here. After last time I wasn't going to be unprepared. Hell, when Erin asked last time why I didn't have a GPS in your phone already, I had to admit I didn't have a good answer..." he explains to her.
"You know how creepy that just sounded, right?" Yun asks with a smile.
"Fully aware." Shamrock responds, laughing.
"One day you are going to have to tell me how you even got into that host club, AND got me kicked out... Okay?" she says to him, knowing full well he wouldn't answer. It was a question about his past, in a indirect way, they never got answered...
