The lights dim down and take on a purplish hue as a light smoky mist fills the entranceway. The soulful opening to Nipsey Hussle’s “Been Down” begins playing as Swizz Beats offering the tracks opening monologue.
As the beat drops, the crowd in attendance gives a loud pop as Cordelia Stevenson emerges from the mist with a bounce in her step and dancing to the music. She comes to a stop atop the walkway, glancing around and taking in the reception. She rolls her neck around before bowing her head and letting her hair fall in front of her face. A few seconds go by before she snaps her head up, whipping her hair back from in front of her face.
She continues on down the ramp, acknowledging fans on both sIdes before entering the ring. She immediately heads towards the turnbuckles, climbing up and raising a fist. After drawing cheers from the crowd, she hops down and heads to the other side of the ring, to repeat the process. Finally she hops down and saunters over towards the ropes where she is handed a mic. She walks back towards the center as the music dies down.
Cordelia Stevenson: Kind of sounds like you’re happy to see me.
The warm and endearing response she gets causes her to laugh. She nods her head, loving the electric atmosphere of the evening.
Cordelia Stevenson: Just know that the feeling is mutual. It’s been forever, hasn’t it? Jeez, the last time you guys saw me in an FGA ring was over four months ago at Grapple Kingdom III, when I finally…
She exhales deeply and clenches her fist. The corners of her mouth curve ever so slightly into a mischievous grin.
Cordelia Stevenson: --finally got my hands on the world’s fastest sprinter, Ashlyn De Luca.
Of course, the boo birds naturally come out at the mention of De Lucz. No surprise there.
Cordelia Stevenson: Over four months, since I successfully defended my International Heavyweight Championship. Four Four long and tortuous months since I had the honor and privilege of being in front of you amazing fans, and to be honest, it’s felt like even longer than that. I’ve missed this…
She makes a sweeping motion with her hand.
Cordelia Stevenson: I’ve missed this energy. Granted, we’re still functioning in a limited capacity, but it’s a step towards normalcy that I for one can appreciate. I swear, this whole Covid-19 thing just came along and put the entire world at a standstill. The world as we know it seems to have changed completely, and the normal that we once knew may forever be nothing more than a memory, so I am beyond thankful for a trinket of familiarity. I am beyond grateful to be… home, and I’m sure the rest of you out there share those same exact sentiments as well.
Her words are met with a round of applause as the International Heavyweight Champion gives a courteous nod. She gives the fans a moment to quiet down before she continues on.
Cordelia Stevenson: So, welcome back guys, and boy, what a way for FGA to return. It seems as if the people in the back really wanted to kick things off with a bang, so tonight, yours truly will be teaming up once again with the FGA World Champion, Fujiko Mine…
Cordy’s voice trails off as she already anticipates the reaction to her name dropping the champ.
Cordelia Stevenson: -- to go up against the FGA World Tag Team Champions; Neal Durden and Lowri Moss. Pendragon.
The response is thunderous. Well as thunderous as it can possibly get. It is clear the anticipation for the night’s main event is on high.
Cordelia Stevenson: You want to talk about the makings of something explosive. That’s exactly what you’re going to get when you throw four of the industry’s biggest talents into that ring. Fujiko and I definitely have our work cut out for us tonight, there’s no doubt about that. Let’s be honest, Pendragon is about as hot as it gets in this business. They’ve been on an absolute tear, both individually, and as a unit. When anyone mentions tag team wrestling nowadays, their name is probably the first one mentioned along with the Hellcat Spangled Death Squad. Some might even say that they are the best tag team in the world, and I wouldn’t be mad at that at all.
Cordelia shrugs her shoulders and tilts her head as she adjusts the title on her shoulder.
Cordelia Stevenson: Lowri Moss, Neal Durden… two of the very best that this business has to offer. Champions in their own right, and more than capable of pushing Fujiko and I past our proverbial limits, they have my utmost respect. But I’d damn sure be lying if I said I didn’t want to win this one… and badly.
Cordy paces around a bit, her head lowered as she gathers her thoughts.
Cordelia Stevenson: You see, not too long before the world went to hell… Lowri Moss and I headlined a show at Korakuen Hall, and it was an amazing experience; an incredible match, but on that night, I’m not ashamed to admit, Lowri Moss got the best of me. Not that there were any doubts in my mind, but she proved to anyone foolish enough to doubt, that she was indeed the real deal.
Cordelia pauses for a second, sliding the International Heavyweight Championship from her shoulder and holding it into the air.
Cordelia Stevenson: That night has stuck with me. And needless to say, Lowri… I owe you one. And tonight---
Before Cordelia can continue on, she is abruptly cut off as the sounds of “Just Close Your Eyes” by Waterproof Blonde fill the arena with sound. If the mention of Ashlyn DeLuca caused the fans to boo, then the arrival of Savannah Taylor stepping out from the back sends the limited crowd into an absolute tizzy. The former International Heavyweight champion steps out from behind the curtain, a microphone in her hand and a look of absolute derision on her face as she walks down the aisle, her eyes never leaving the woman in the ring. Her heeled boots make a slight clicking noise as she climbs up the steps and climbs between the bottom and middle ropes. She stands just opposite Cordelia and waits for the music to die down before raising the microphone to her lips.
Savannah Taylor:: Sorry to interrupt your heartfelt and GENUINE speech to your…
Savannah glances around at the crowd with a slight shrug of her shoulders.
Savannah Taylor:: Dozens of fans gathered here tonight…
The fans in the stands shower the blonde with a rousing chorus of boos. For her part, Savannah lowers the mic and rolls her blue eyes, giving the fans a few seconds to get their jeers out of their system before she speaks once more.
Savannah Taylor:: Are you through interrupting? The grown ups are trying to have a conversation here. Anyway, before the peanut gallery interrupted me, I actually came out to talk to you, Cordelia. You see, I was listening in the back when you came out and like your fan club gathered here tonight, I couldn’t WAIT to hear what the exalted one was going to say. I was so moved by your words that I couldn’t help myself. I HAD to come out here and tell you that, outside of everything you said about Lowri Moss….
She lowers the mic a little bit, all traces of amusement gone as she clears her throat.
Savannah Taylor:: Everything you have said is complete and utter bullsh*t.
Cordelia is clearly amused by Savannah’s interruption. She slowly saunters around the ring, her eyes glued on the former International Heavyweight Champion.
Cordelia Stevenson: And here I was thinking I was the one that craved attention.
Cordy smirks, recalling the comments that Savannah made about her in another promotion.
Cordelia Stevenson: I’ll be honest with you, Savvy. I’m kind of surprised to see you out here. Considering the fact that in about a week’s time I’m going to put you down once and for all, I kind of figured you’d be enjoying the little time you have left. But alas, I guess that’s me giving you too much credit and believing you’re more than the blonde stereotype. You coming out here must mean one of two thing; either you’re a glutton for punishment, or Jimmy Page permanently disabled the remaining brain cells that you had left. Which one is it?
Cordelia walks up to the ropes and holds the mic out playfully, as she mouths the words ‘please respond’ to the Las Vegas Siren. Between the fans urging Cordelia on and her smirk, it took every ounce of restraint for Savannah to not remove mer earrings and heels and just make Cordelia’s head part of the ring surface. Drawing in a breath, a playful grin creeps onto Savannah’s face as she shrugs.
Savannah Taylor:: We all have a little bit of a masochistic side to us, what can I say? You of all people should know that, Cordelia.
She says with a wink.
Savannah Taylor:: And it’s funny that you mentioned what is taking place in a week’s time. I could go on about how the only reason why you are even competing in my hometown is because some washed up has been suddenly had a hair across her ass about me. Who doesn’t? But that is neither here nor there. Since you’ve taken it upon yourself to branch out and stick your nose where it doesn’t belong, allow me to do the same. You’ve developed a penchant for issuing challenges, haven’t you?
She lowers the mic and simply arches an eyebrow at the champion.
Savannah Taylor:: Then chew on this for a minute. Why don’t you….
She points at Cordy.
Savannah Taylor:: Put that…
She points to the International championship resting on Cordy’s shoulder.
Savannah Taylor:: On the line against me at Only the Strong Survive. That is, of course…..you’re afraid.
The crowd gives an audible “OOOOOO” as the Las Vegas native mockingly hands out the mic, mouthing “You’re response, ma’am.” Cordelia takes a step back, placing her hand on her chest as if in shock.
Cordelia Stevenson: My goodness, look who found a backbone during the quarantine.
Cordelia glances around at the crowd, before focusing her eyes back on the Las Vegas Siren.
Cordelia Stevenson: Someone is feeling bold. Must feel strange not trying to make a statement from someone’s blind side or when you’ve got a crew running with you. Color me impressed, Savvy. Maybe you really are learning how to stand on your own two feet. But you see, my thing is…
Cordelia slides the title off of her shoulder and sets it down onto the mat.
Cordelia Stevenson: -- why wait?
She takes a step backward and beckons Savannah to come forward much to the delight of those in attendance. For a fleeting moment, Savannah’s face literally became the gif of the child wearing Spongebob pajamas looking thoroughly unimpressed. That look is quickly replaced by Savannah laughing to herself, shaking her head in amusement .
Savannah Taylor:: Typical Cordelia Stevenson. Always willing to give it all away before the date takes place. No wonder you’ve earned the nickname the Queen of Curve. Why in GOD’S name would you be willing to give away a perfectly good main event match for free? No no no, that is NOT how we are going to do this. If you and I are going to dance, and believe me sweetie, we ARE….then we may as well make these idiots pay for that kind of action.
She pauses to brush a strand of hair out of her face.
Savannah Taylor:: Since you pride yourself on being such a student of the game, I’m going to give you some homework. Go watch last year’s Only The Strong Survive. Remember what happened there? Remember who wasn’t even thought of when it came to the International championship? This year at that same show….lightning is striking twice, and your entire world is going to go up in flames.
With that, Savannah drops the mic right in front of Cordy, blowing the champion a kiss before she slides out of the ring and heads back up the ramp. Cordelia leans down and retrieves her title from the mat. Her eyes never leave the former champion as a small smile finds itself on her face.
Never sell out
Sometimes you gotta talk that talk to em, Nipsey
Sometimes they can't handle it though...
But we don't care...
