Out scene shifts to Geoff Penzer. The analyst sits at a table in front of a black backdrop before addressing the camera.
Geoff Penzer: In just a couple of weeks, Flashpoint fans, and FGA fans, will be witness to what I can only imagine what will be one of the most hard-hitting… brutal… violent matches in company history when Jimmy Page challenges Chandler Scott for the International Heavyweight Championship inside of a Steel Cage. Joining me at this time is one half of the match. He is the current International Heavyweight Champion, Chandler Scott. Chandler, welcome.
A camera cut reveals Chandler on the other side of the table. He offers a head nod and a friendly smile to Geoff.
Chandler Scott: Thank you for having me.
Geoff Penzer: I should be thanking
you for having me. I’m surprised that Amanda Johnson isn’t doing this interview. This is more of her speed, don’t you think?
Chandler Scott: In theory, it is. The backstage interviewer should be doing the interviews while the play by play man should be calling the action in the ring. But here’s thing the about Amanda Johnson.
Amanda Johnson is horrible at her job.
Geoff gives a disappointed sigh. He was hoping this conversation wouldn’t turn nasty.
Geoff Penzer: Let’s be nice, Chandler.
Chandler refuses by shaking his head.
Chandler Scott: No, let’s be truthful, Geoff. Let’s be truthful. Let’s tell it how it is. Let’s talk about how Amanda Johnson has tried to turn herself from an unbiased reporter into a pundit. Because that’s exactly what she is right now. She isn’t fair and balanced. She doesn’t remain unbiased. She no longer just states the facts. She wants to state her
opinion. She wants to come out here and get lippy with the talent. We all saw her give Brookford nothing but attitude all summer. Then for the last how many months, we’ve seen her giving an attitude to Ashlyn De Luca. Now she’s doing the same thing to me as of late. So I’ve decided that if I’m doing interviews on Flashpoint? From now on, I don’t want her anywhere near me because I know what she’s all about.
Geoff gives Chandler a disapproving head shake. But Chandler sits firm in his thoughts on amanda.
Geoff Penzer: I don’t agree with that assessment, but fair enough. Let’s just get right down to it…
Chandler Scott: Let’s.
Geoff Penzer: Melanie Sierra. Two weeks ago, she was a victim of a situation that you created. You escalated that encounter with Jimmy Page. You prodded him. You provoked him until you got the reaction that you wanted. Then things between the two of you went from bad to worse when Melanie Sierra, who is only a ring announcer, was caught in the crossfire. Do you feel at all sorry for Melanie and do you feel you bear any responsibility for what happened?
Chandler lets a beat beats pass before continuing.
Chandler Scott: I felt bad for Melanie and I still feel bad. She’s just an announcer. She doesn’t come to work expecting for things to turn physical. While the action in the ring spills to the outside from time to time, Melanie, you, the timekeeper, the cameramen… you guys don’t expect to get caught in the crossfire. Unfortunately for Melanie… that’s exactly what happened two weeks ago. I feel awful for what happened to her. I really do. She didn’t deserve that. She didn’t deserve any of it. I’m not going to sit here and act like we were the best of friends or even friends. But all of my interactions with her have been nothing but pleasant. Asking around to the various personnel backstage or even talking to you before we started recording, you all have had nothing but nice things to say about her. You’ve all said that she was a sweetheart. But even if she wasn’t, she didn’t deserve that. Like you said, she was an innocent bystander…
Geoff Penzer: OK, and as it pertains to my second question…?
Chandler Scott: Which one? Do I think I bear any responsibility for what happened? Not at all.
Geoff gives Chandler a double take.
Geoff Penzer: You don’t think you are responsible in the slightest for what happened to Melanie?
Chandler gives Geoff an incredulous look.
Chandler Scott: Not at all. Absolutely not.
Geoff Penzer: Chandler, I’m not trying to be rude here. But how can you say that when you are the one that fueled that whole situation last week. You provoked that man. You stoked those flames and Melanie getting hit in the head with those steel steps was the end result. How can you sit here with a straight face and tell me that you don’t feel like you’re responsible for that?!
Chandler Scott: Hold on, so I’m responsible entirely for what happened to Melanie? And what, Jimmy Page isn’t? I mean
he was only the person that threw the damn steps, Geoff. But go ahead and blame everything on me!
Geoff Penzer: I’m not saying that Jimmy Page is completely innocent...
Chandler Scott: Well it damn sure doesn’t sound like it. It sounds to me like you want to treat him with kid gloves just like every other apologist in this company.
Geoff Penzer: I’m not trying to absolve Jimmy Page of blame, but..
Chandler Scott: But nothing! You say I provoked that situation? Who called who out at the end of the last Flashpoint? HMMM?! That’s right, it was Jimmy Page that called ME out. It was JJIMMY PAGE who was the one that wanted to kick my ass. HE was the one driving like a maniac to the arena with the intention of causing physical harm.
Geoff Penzer: Yes, he wanted to hurt you. Yes, he called you out. But he was doing everything in his power to keep things from turning physical until you went and attacked him verbally.
Chandler Scott: Jimmy Page is how old, Geoff? How old? This isn’t some toddler we’re talking about here! This isn’t some child that’s in grade school. This is a grown man… allegedly. You mean to tell me that he can’t control himself? You mean to tell me that a few choice words sends him flying off the handle.
Geoff Penzer: That was more than “a few choice words” and you know it.
Chandler couldn’t roll his eyes any harder.
Chandler Scott: And you know that regardless of what I said, Jimmy Page is the one that bears responsibility for what happened to Melanie and you know it.
Geoff Penzer: Well this isn't the first time that you have been involved in an innocent that resulted in an innocent bystander getting hit with steel steps.
Chandler throws his arms up with exasperation.
Chandler Scott: Oh, here we go.
Geoff Penzer: Almost three years ago, the tables were turned and a fan was struck with steel steps that
you threw. That
you threw, Chandler. As a matter of fact, we’ve got the footage on hand...
Chandler Scott: Of course you do…
The video fades back to Geoff and Chandler. Chandler narrows his eyes at the play by play announcer.
Chandler Scott: You’re something else, Geoff. You’re
really something else.
Geoff Penzer: I’m just presenting the facts, Chandler. I’m not saying that Jimmy Page isn’t partially responsible for what unfortunately happened to Melanie. But you pushed him over the edge in that situation. Just like he pushed you over the edge three years ago. In both instances, an innocent bystander was struck due to actions you caused. Don’t you see the parallel here?
Chandler Scott: The only thing I see is you trying to paint me as the monster that Jimmy Page truly is.
Geoff Penzer: That’s not what I’m doing at all…
Chandler Scott: Yes it is. Yes it is. You want to know what I see? I see the real Jimmy Page right there on full display. Two weeks ago, when I saw steel steps flying at my head, my natural reaction, my gut instinct… was to duck. Jimmy Page? His gut instinct was to pull a fan in the way! Go ahead and lie. Go ahead and tell me I’m trying to spin it. You brought up the footage Geoff. It’s right there for the world to see. You were so quick to have them cue that video up. Why don’t you show Page pulling that fan in the way again. Or better yet, why don’t you let that whole segment play out and show the part where Jimmy escaped through the crowd with a smile on his face. I took care of that fan. Just like I have taken care of Melanie. While Jimmy Page was busy trying to put pen to paper and fumble over some half-assed apology, I was the one that put money forward and made sure that all of her medical expenses were paid.
Geoff Penzer: Don’t you think this has gone on far enough?
Chandler Scott: Geoff, I’m not the one who brought Jimmy Page to Flashpoint. This brand was doing fine on its own until that piece of trash came strolling in here. The people that run this company? They have no backbone because they caved to Jimmy Page and his incessant whining and crying. Jimmy Page has the nerve to call me privileged when he was the one that bitched, moaned and complained until he got his way and got his ass traded to Flashpoint. Oh, and by the way. It’s been two weeks now. Tell me, Geoff. Who exactly
did Flashpoint trade for Page? As I look at the roster right now, it’s the exact same as it was two weeks ago! So who the hell did this brand give up for him?! Newsflash, no one!!! Jimmy Page wasn’t “traded” to Flashpoint. There wasn’t any exchange of talent. Jimmy Page was sent here to Flashpoint to teach me a lesson. He was sent here to Flashpoint because the people behind the scenes were pissed that their little redemption story ended with Kolton Sterling walking out of Final Frontier as World Champion. Are we sure that Hadley Herrera wasn’t fired, because I sure smell BS coming from the Flashpoint office.
Geoff Penzer: So you think Page coming here is some sort of conspiracy against you?
Chandler Scott: They caved to him. They caved. Plain and simple. But I see the look you’re giving me. It’s the same look that I’m sure a lot of people watching this right now have. You think I’m absolutely nuts. You think that I’m crazy to believe that. Well, I say that people are crazy to believe that Jimmy Page is actually a changed man.
Geoff Penzer: Jimmy Page’s past here in FGA is filled with a lot of pain and torment that he caused. There’s no disputing that. But at a certain point, don’t you believe that people are allowed to change? Don’t you believe that people deserve a second chance?
Chandler Scott: Do I believe people deserve second chances? For the most part, sure.
Geoff Penzer: So why doesn’t Jimmy Page?
Chandler Scott: Why doesn’t he? Why the hell
should he?
Geoff Penzer: Why shouldn’t he? He was reviled in this company for years just like you were…
Chandler Scott: Don’t you start that…
Geoff Penzer: You were hated by fans and wrestlers alike, just like he was. Then, these fans gave you a second chance, Chandler. They embraced you. They loved you. So why doesn’t Jimmy Page deserve that same second chance that you got?
Chandler Scott: Did you not hear me when I told you that he was a subhuman piece of trash?
Geoff Penzer: I heard you…
Chandler Scott: No, you were
listening but you didn’t
hear me. And don’t you dare every try to equate me and Jimmy Page. The hell is the matter with you? Yeah, I was hated. I was hated for a long time. A long damn time. I’m no saint. I’ve done my fair share and I’ve said a lot of foul things in my day. But at the end of day, I beat people in the ring. At the end of the day, Jimmy Page tries to mutilate people. He damn near ripped Laurel Anne Hardy’s ear off. He took a steel chair and treated Cindy Parker’s head like it was a baseball on a tee. And that’s just off the top of the head. And yeah, these fans? Sure, they gave me a second chance or whatever. But I wasn’t out here going on some apology tour like Johnny Karma. I wasn’t working up crocodile tears for the cameras like Page. I let my actions speak for themselves and the fans cheered me for it.
Geoff Penzer: Well you’re actions have spoken for you as of late and now these same great fans that cheered you, boo you.
The last comment by Geoff stung. Chandler could do nothing but sit there in silence.
Chandler Scott: …
Geoff Penzer: Where did this hatred between the two of you even start?
Chandler Scott: It’s real simple. Once upon the time, the very mention of Jimmy Page’s voice sent chills up and down the spines of the men and women that made up this roster. Once upon a time, the name of Jimmy Page was something that was said in hushed tones. You talk about pain that he caused? He left a trail of destruction in his path. The man was evil incarnate. And he turned away challengers like Cordy Stevenson and challengers like Riley Owens. It seemed like no one was going to be able to stop Page… until I came into the picture and punched him in the mouth. I knocked his ass out. I took this World Championship and cemented myself as the greatest wrestler than this company has ever seen in the months that followed. But losing to me didn’t sit well with Page. So he tried it again. And then I beat him again. This time, he couldn’t use the excuse of Johnny Karma being involved in the match. This time, he couldn’t use the excuse of Sean Sands being involved in the match. This time, Page had to swallow the bitter pill of defeat. He had to acknowledge the fact that I was better than him. And that didn’t sit well with him, either. You see, Jimmy Page didn’t build his name off of high flying moves. He didn’t build his name off of being a technical wizard. He built his name off of fear and intimidation. He built his name off of brute force. But that soon came to a screeching halt because of me. Because of me, Page was no longer feared. Because of me, Page was no longer seen as unstoppable. Because of me, Page was now viewed as approachable… touchable… beatable. The mystique around Jimmy Page was shattered thanks to me. That is where this all stems from and he’s hated me for it ever since.
A beat.
Chandler Scott: About a year later, Jimmy Page called me out. But I wouldn’t answer. Why, because he wasn’t worth answering. Why, because he wasn't worth my time. And if there’s one thing we know about Jimmy Page, it’s that he hates being ignored. He hates being shunned. It must bring back old memories of him being in the system. Who knows. But Page, he didn’t take to kindly to being brushed aside by yours truly. He wanted my attention. So he did the one thing that he knew would get my undivided attention. He crossed the line. I then proceeded to damn near end his career.
It’s a shame that I didn’t.
Geoff Penzer: When is enough going to be enough? When is it going to finally be over between the two of you? Did it even have to come to this?
Chandler Scott: Again, Geoff, I’m not the one that brought Page to Flashpoint. He could still be over on Vertigo with the rest of them. But no, he was brought over here to continue this. I’ll just be the one that ends it, once and for all.
Geoff Penzer: But when is the hate going to stop? Our fans love Jimmy Page. They have embraced him. We’ve seen members from both Vertigo and Flashpoint embrace him. The man has been through so much. He has overcome so much. Why do we have to go down this road yet again? Isn’t it time to move on? Isn’t it time to let Page have peace?
Chandler Scott: Isn’t it time to letting
Jimmy Page have peace? You know what’s crazy? It’s the fact that you don’t even see the absurdity in what you just said. There are people here, fans, fellow wrestlers, who bend over backwards to console him. There are people in those stands that chant his name. There are people in this company who proudly call him their friend. You people continue to act like I’m in the wrong. You continue to act like I’m not justified in feeling how I feel. Jimmy Page didn’t spill juice all over my shirt. He didn’t cut me off in line or swerve in front of me on the road. That son of a bitch stalked my sister, beat the ever living sh*t out of her, taped it and then forced this company to play it on national TV!!! And you’re going to sit here and talk to me about leaving him alone and letting him have some goddamn peace?!?! Why, because I beat him in some match?! HUH?!?!
Geoff Penzer: …
Chandler Scott: DO YOU KNOW WHAT IT’S LIKE TO LOOK ON HELPLESSLY WHILE YOUR SISTER GETS HER HEAD SPLIT OPEN BY HIM?! NO YOU DON’T!!!
DO YOU KNOW WHAT IT’S LIKE TO WATCH HIM SLAM A DOOR AGAINST YOUR SISTER’S HEAD OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN?! NO YOU DON’T! DO YOU KNOW WATCH IT’S LIKE WATCHING YOUR SISTER CRY OUT FOR HELP WHILE HE TAUNTS HER?! NO YOU DON’T!!! DO YOU KNOW WHAT IT’S LIKE TO WATCH HIM SMASH YOUR SISTER’S HEAD INTO A MIRROR?! NO YOU DON’T!!! DO YOU KNOW WHAT IT’S LIKE TO SEE YOUR SISTER LEFT FOR DEAD BY HIM?! NO YOU DON’T!!! BUT I DO, BECAUSE I’VE SEEN THAT IMAGE IN MY HEAD EVERY F*CKING NIGHT FOR THE PAST THREE YEARS!!! TO HELL WITH HIM!!!!!You could feel through the camera how uncomfortable the situation was. Chandler continued to stare wide eyed at Geoff while he clenched his jaw. The International Heavyweight Champion was visibly shaking with anger. His gripped the table while his lips quivered. Tears began to flow down Chandler’s face. A flood of emotions had overtaken him. Geoff tried his best to offer some compassion.
Geoff Penzer: I’m sor-
Chandler Scott: F*CK OFF!!!!!Geoff quickly put his head down and kept his gaze focused on the table between them. Chandler continued to breath heavy until he finally calmed himself down. He continued...
Chandler Scott: ... this company rolled out the red carpet for him to come to Flashpoint. At A New Odyssey? The only thing they’ll be rolling out… is a body bag.
