Melanie Sierra: Ladies and gentlemen… please welcome your FGA World Tag Team Champions… Ashlyn De Luca and Logan Alexander… CHAAAAAOTICS!
A mixed reaction surges throughout the United Center as the lights dim and Kavinsky’s “Deadcruiser” blasts over the PA system, prompting a multicolored strobe to dance throughout the darkened arena.
Geoff Penzer: And here they are, ladies and gentlemen-- this is the team that not only retained their World Tag Team Championships in brutal fashion against the Polychromatic Lion Attack Squad, but somehow, someway, they managed to put our now-former General Manager Hadley Herrera in a position where her very career was riding on the result of that match. Dan Herrera couldn’t go anymore. Hadley Herrera, for the sake of her family, threw in the towel. She’s no longer here, but these two have made it clear that they’re not going anywhere.
There’s an initial pop as Logan Alexander makes his way out from behind the curtain, casually making his way down the ramp, World Tag Team Title over his shoulder and eyes focused on the ring… but the reaction fades to a chorus of boos as Ashlyn De Luca strolls out a few paces behind him, a bit more swagger in her step and a broad grin on her face as she thrusts her title high above her head, taking the time to shout back at some of the Chicago fans that lean over the barrier to jeer her.
Geoff Penzer: Logan Alexander went the distance on the first night of Final Frontier, meeting Evan Envi in the finals of the 2018 Frontier Lion’s Cup. He earned the respect of his peers and the respect of these people, by the sounds of it, but his partner-- this is a far cry from the Ashlyn De Luca that made her way to FGA in 2017 if you ask me. I don’t know if I have an accurate word, quite yet, for her attitude as of late.
Now in the ring, De Luca reaches through the ropes and out to the timekeeper to accept a pair of microphones. As De Luca hands one to her partner, the music fades, panning in toward Ashlyn as the music begins to fade. Ashlyn raises the microphone to her mouth-- but before a single word can make its way out, deafening boos rain down on the World Tag Team Champions… or at least, on the champio
n.
“BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!”
Ashlyn twirls the mic in her hand a bit, narrowing her eyes as she looks out among the Chicago audience. She looks toward Logan, saying something that can’t be picked up by the ringside microphones before she tries to raise the mic again-- only to be greeted with an even louder, deeper chorus of boos. Ashlyn’s eyebrows arch and she slowly lowers the microphone, mouthing “wow” as she looks out into the United Center.
“YOU STILL SUCK!”
“YOU STILL SUCK!”
“YOU STILL SUCK!”
“YOU STILL SUCK!”
Ashlyn nods along in rhythm to the chant for a few moments before finally clearing her throat into the microphone, ignoring the chorus of boos that follows.
Ashlyn De Luca: That’s uh… that’s a really, really weird way of saying “thank you” but I think we’ll take it. You’re welcome. Bahahahaha…
“BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!”
Ashlyn De Luca: You guys are
welcome for us putting in the time and putting in the work necessary to finally rid this brand of the person-sized parasite known as Hadley Herrera. FINALLY we can have a program with a foundation that’s based on
talent instead of one based on surnames. Do you guys even appreciate the gravity of what happened at Final Frontier? Huh?
Ashlyn draws in a deep breath, taking the booing of Chicago as a clear “no” as she continues.
Ashlyn De Luca: Logan Alexander and I changed the complexity of FGA Flashpoint and we did it, not only for the betterment of the Chaotics, but the betterment of
you. Instead of forcing us to jump these imaginary hurdles and beat the same teams time and time again, we’ve put Frontier Grappling Arts in a position where they’re all but
forced to give us REAL competition.
The audience, albeit hesitant, comes alive loudly for De Luca’s words. She paces the ring, adjusting the title on her shoulder before she goes on.
Ashlyn De Luca: We did it when we defended these World Tag Team Championships against the Polychromatic Lion Attack Squad… but the Chaotics went above and beyond the call of duty at Final Frontier. At least one half of us did.
The audience begins to come alive as Ashlyn turns toward her partner.
Ashlyn De Luca: At Final Frontier, my partner went the distance. At Final Frontier, my tag team partner, Logan Alexander busted his ass time after time after time after time…
The Chicago crowd grows loud, most coming to their feet in ovation for Logan Alexander. Ashlyn lowers the mic and nods a bit as a chant surges throughout the audience.
”LOGAN!”
“LOGAN!”
“LOGAN!”
“LOGAN!”
“LOGAN!”
Ashlyn De Luca: And despite going to
war for the 2018 Frontier Lion’s Cup, Logan was still by my side less than twenty-four hours later to make sure we came to Chicago
STILL your reigning, defending, FGA World Tag Team Champions. NEVER anticipate any image other than
this one.
With that, De Luca and Alexander raise their World Tag Team Championships high into the air, earning a thunderous mixed reaction from Chicago.
Geoff Penzer: She is absolutely full of herself, isn’t she?
After soaking in the moment, the champions lower their titles back down. Logan rests his back on his shoulder and then raises his mic, earning a pop from a section of the crowd-- a stark contrast to their reaction to De Luca.
Logan Alexander: It would have been a much sweeter moment to be standing here with the Frontier Lion’s Cup, that wasn’t meant to be unfortunately. But these World Tag Team Championships are what define us right now… and at Final Frontier, we showed how important they are to us. We were not put into a favourable situation but we went all in, just as we always do. And with three Herreras standing tall before us to begin with… we put all of them down together.
This draws a loud negative reaction from the Chicago crowd. Logan pauses to allow them to express themselves. As the crowd settles again, Logan resumes.
Logan Alexander: I’m sure you might find it hard to believe, but I do agree with that assessment.
This quiets the crowd a bit and Ashlyn raises a brow at Logan, physically biting her tongue, apparently choosing to withhold comment until he continues.
Logan Alexander: You look at that situation we were standing in the center of last year. I’m disappointed that it came to that. It never had to be so rigidly set as us against them. We simply wanted a little leeway. A little flexibility in how things were done. As all great competitors do, we wanted more than what we had. I would like to think that my showing over the last couple of months has validated our request. We didn’t ask for championships to be laid at our feet. We just wanted a chance to earn them.
Logan glances over at Ashlyn, frowning slightly.
Logan Alexander: Hadley apparently thought otherwise.
Ashlyn nods, saying something to Logan that the mics don’t quite pick up before Alexander continues.
Logan Alexander: She apparently thought that what we deserved was to have the Polychromatic Lion Attack Squad sent against us again and again until they finally got the job done. That is something that
did not happen and I suspect that it is something that will
never happen.
Ashlyn nods again, smirking a bit, still not raising the mic back up, but she can be heard shouting the phrase
“it’s basically physically impossible!”Logan Alexander: And so… that story came to a close with the expected heroes falling before us. Dan and Peaches are gone to Vertigo. Hadley is gone entirely. It was something that did not need to happen, but here we are. We stand before you all victorious…
Logan smirks out at the crowd, who grow restless, many anticipating what’s next…
Logan Alexander: …
and STILL...
Once again, De Luca and Alexander raise their World Tag Team Championships high into the air, this time earning a thunderous reaction more heavily made up of boos, but with audible sections of cheers.
Geoff Penzer: And I’m sure if you ask them on any given day… and “always.”
The champions lower their titles back down once again.
Logan Alexander: We’re not content with just that though. I was able to bring down Johnny Karma a month ago. I was the last person standing for the Flashpoint brand when the dust settled at Final Frontier. And I’m certain that Ashlyn could have done better had she been in my place.
Ashlyn shrugs toward the camera, stating
“we’ll never know.”Logan Alexander: But even though we’d like some individual success going forward this year, we are by no means done as World Tag Team champions. We’ve set several new standards for these titles and we intend to continue raising the bar for
everyone else that decide to try and follow. We are the
best and don’t expect that to change any time soon.
Ashlyn De Luca: Which raises a really important question, you know. Since we’ve wrecked EEEVERY single team that’s even
considered climbing up in the ring with us, what exactly is there lef--
All of a sudden, "Take A Chance" by CFO$ begins to play over the PA system, instantly creating a buzz amongst the fans, who all know whose entrance music that is. Ashlyn stops mid-sentence, mouth still hanging open, head slowly turning to face the ramp as her eyes gradually narrow. Far more composed and only raising an eyebrow in response, Logan looks towards the entryway. The champs fix their attention towards the source of this interruption, and they do not have to wait very long, as out through the curtains walks Neal Durden, followed closely by Lowri Moss, to a massive pop.
Geoff Penzer: Maybe there is something, or rather some
ONE left, Ashlyn, and that's Flashpoint's newest tag team… the first ever FGA United States Tag Team Champions… Pendragon!
The Welsh duo stand side by side on the stage, taking a moment to survey the cheering crowd first, a timid smile showing on their faces. Yet, after a bit, their focus shifts towards The Chaotics. Neal and Lowri look at each other and walk to the ring, making sure to high five some fans along the way. Once inside the ring, the duo come face to face with The Chaotics, as the crowd cheer the moment. What seemed as merely a dream, is now a reality. After a couple of seconds standing in front of Ashlyn and Logan, Neal and Lowri bypass them, and walk to the other end of the ring and ask for a microphone. Once they get handed a microphone, both Neal and Lowri turn back to the current World Tag Team Champions. Neal has the microphone in his hands and whenever he brings it close to his mouth to speak, the pop in the crowd becomes so deafening that he decides to only smile and not to say anything. Finally he gets the crowd to quiet down a bit for him to speak.
Neal Durden: I think your question has been answered before you even finished it, Ashlyn.
A large pop from the crowd follows Neal’s statement, followed by a huge
“PENDRAGON!” chant. Ashlyn rolls her eyes, shaking her head a bit at the reception for Flashpoint’s newest team.
Neal Durden: Yet, credit where credit is due. You managed a feat a lot of tag teams, and even singles wrestlers, have set out to do, yet many have failed. You managed to clean up an entire division. You beat the Polychromatic Lion Attack Squad, you beat Smart Style, you beat the Dogs of War… every team that went for those titles, as you said, you beat up…
Ashlyn and Logan bring the belts up to their shoulders and they seem to be full of confidence after Neal’s remarks, yet he continues.
Neal Durden: But while you were beating all those teams here on Flashpoint, over on Vertigo,
WE were doing the same. We beat The New Murder, we beat the Reapers In Pride--
Lowri Moss: And don’t forget the Good Guys!
Neal Durden: All the while, establishing the FGA United States Tag Team Championship.
As if he were predicting The Chaotics’ reply, Neal lifted his left hand and continued speaking.
Neal Durden: And I know what you’re thinking… ‘what about Silk & Cyanide?’... well, everyone saw what happened and it is no good to dwell on that. They beat us, no matter how it was, the fact remains… and it stings a bit, it stings not to have the opportunity
YOU had against Smart Style. It stings not to be able to regain what
WE made our own, while proving to the world
WE are one of, if not
THE BEST Tag Team on the planet right now.
Chicago roars for Neal. The camera focuses on Ashlyn, whose jaw is clenched as she looks at Durden, not as moved by his words as the fans. Logan watches Neal intently, a smirk on his face as he is clearly amused by that statement.
Lowri Moss: While being drafted to Flashpoint does mean that we aren't going to get that opportunity, what it also means though of course, is that now there are new opportunities open to us, with new opponents for us to test ourselves against, and--
Lowri pauses to take a quick glance at the belts on the shoulders of Ashlyn and Logan.
Lowri Moss: New titles for us to compete for.
She then exchanges a glance with Neal, before looking back to The Chaotics, as a smirk starts to form on her face.
Lowri Moss: We know that the two of us facing off with the two of you is something that people have been anticipating ever since the draft lottery put Pendragon on the same show as The Chaotics. In fact, we know this is something that people have been wanting to see for quite some time now: FGA's two dominant tag teams of the past twelve months, together in the same ring. And if that's what people want to see, then well, who are we to disappoint them?
Ashlyn opens her mouth to respond, but sighs into the mic, looking visibly annoyed as chants of
“YES!” echo throughout the United Center. Logan glances around at the crowd, seemingly unperturbed by this response, as De Luca paces a bit, looking from Neal to Lowri with a nigh-incredulous expression on her face.
Ashlyn De Luca: Is that what we’re doing? Consolation prizes? Really?
Ashlyn blinks quickly as if trying to understand what Pendragon are saying, slowly bringing the hyped-up crowd back to Earth, earning boos from pockets of the audience.
Ashlyn De Luca: We’re just gonna forget that you guys just
lost your Tag Team Titles? We’re just gonna let Pendragon come in here and demand a match with the champions because that’s what
they want to see? We’re just gonna sacrifice the value of the FGA World Tag Team Championships for a cheap pop? Really?
Ashlyn holds up a hand, continuing.
Ashlyn De Luca: What happened to the days when people had the respect to climb the ladder and
earn the right to have a match with the champion? Reddit is killing this business, man.
Logan remains quiet as Ashlyn speaks her mind on this. He fiddles with his microphone, but makes no move to add his thoughts to this situation. Instead he just nods along in agreement. Neal smiles, as a light chuckle escaped him. He then took the opportunity to speak.
Neal Durden: We never said anything about a title shot? Did we? We’ll earn it, just as we earned the titles you alluded to. Just as we’ve earned the fans’ respect around the world, from the UK to Japan… Just give us time, because — and lets be honest here —
THIS...
Neal points toward both The Chaotics and Pendragon before continuing.
Neal Durden: Is a long time coming.
Ashlyn’s groans as this earns another pop from the audience. She shakes her head, raising the mic with the same look of confusion.
Ashlyn De Luca: Were you guys supposed to be out here at the same time as us or did you
actually come out here just to be dicks and interrupt us? Because I’m suddenly feeling a little bit crowded.
Taking the title off of her shoulder and into her hand, Ashlyn makes her way to the ropes, immediately stepping out to the apron, dropping down to ringside. Logan looks to Ashlyn as she steps out and then back towards Neal and Lowri.
Logan Alexander: Well, I guess we’ll see you two around eventually. But this is all you two are getting for an
in ring encounter with us now. This isn’t Vertigo after all.
With that, Logan drops his mic and turns to follow Ashlyn out of the ring. There’s a hesitation, with many in the United Center expecting Logan to say or do something else-- but the boos trickle in as it’s clear he’s following his partner up the ramp.
“BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!”
Geoff Penzer: It looks like the World Tag Team Champions have no intention of squaring up with Pendragon tonight. I, for one, am a little disappointed.
The champions reach the top of the ramp, “Deadcruiser” hitting the PA system as they prepare to make their exit until--
Lowri Moss: Hey! Cut the music!
Geoff Penzer: It sounds like Pendragon aren’t willing to let Ashlyn and Logan leave here just yet.
As soon as the music ceases, Lowri launches into The Chaotics, though the team sends initially .
Lowri Moss: Hey! Logan… Ashlyn; where are you guys going? You two have been complaining about a lack of competition for what seems like months on end - we've heard you both moan on numerous occasions about being forced to wrestle the same opponents again and again, but now, when you're actually being presented with some new, potential opponents, you're… making a hasty retreat?
Logan and Ashlyn turn to glance at one another. Logan turns towards Lowri, offers a shrug and waves goodbye to her. Ashlyn wears a half-bitter, half-amused smirk, perking her ear toward Lowri as she takes a few short steps back toward the ramp.
Lowri Moss: You know something, Ashlyn? I remember a few months ago, hearing you grumbling about how I had been able to become a double champion on Vertigo, while here on Flashpoint, you were lucky if you were even booked. Well, how about we do something now to make sure that you’re going to be booked on the next show? How about next week, we have a match, me versus you?
She turns to look at her partner, gesturing towards him with her free hand.
Lowri Moss: Or maybe you would rather have a match against Neal, instead.
He shrugs nonchalantly, and Lowri then turns her attention back to Ashlyn and Logan, who remain stood at the top of the ramp.
Lowri Moss: We'll let you decide which one you would prefer. That is though, you know, if you really do want some new competition.
At this, the champions come together again and have a hushed conversation between them, seemingly considering the options. Ashlyn shoots a glare back toward Pendragon before saying something else to Logan that the cameras can’t quite pick up, causing Chicago to grow restless, but as the audience grows louder and more impatient, De Luca raises the mic to her lips and looks toward Pendragon.
Ashlyn De Luca: ‘Kay.
The response draws an initial pop, but De Luca tosses her mic aside without another word. Logan leads the way to the back, and Ashlyn follows behind. Lowri raises a brow and turns, discussing the situation with Neal. “Take a Chance” hits the PA again before we pan to Geoff Penzer.
Geoff Penzer: I’m-- I’m not sure what “kay” means, but evidently, in some way, shape, or form, I think the Chaotics just accepted Pendragon’s challenge! We’ll be right back!
