Evan Envi vs. Dan Herrera
...Spoken...
"May I remind you again, this is a dream, and in dreams, you can do anything you darn please!"
When the first bass drum thumps, Dan pulls the curtain back and walks out from behind the curtain. He gives a head nod to the fans before heading towards the ring as a spotlight stays on him.
Melanie Sierra: The following contest is scheduled for one fall and it is your main event of the evening! Introducing first, now residing out of Raleigh, North Carolina! Weighing in at 200 pounds! He is one half of the reigning FGA World Tag Team Champions… DAN HERRRRREEERRRAAAAA!!!
My knuckles have turned to white.
There's no turning back tonight.
Kiss me one last time
As Dan makes his way to the ring, Dan slaps hands with the fans on both sides of the entrance-way. Dan gets to the ring and walks up the stairs. He swings around the ring post and ducks between the top and middle rope. Once in the ring, Dan walks over showing his taped wrists to the referee who nods at him and sends him to his corner. He grabs the ropes on either side of the turnbuckle and leans in with his head down prepping himself for the match to begin.
Geoff Penzer: Dan Herrera is no stranger to the Frontier Lions Cup, having qualified for the tournament twice. Once in 2014 before wrestling Jared James to a Draw in the Quarterfinals and once in 2015 before losing in the Quarterfinals to Izzy Anders. Despite his upcoming World Tag Team Title defense against The Chaotics, there’s a competitive part of Herrera that wants to advance to the Quarters, go all the way to the end and win the Frontier Lions Cup. 2017 could be his chance. But standing across the ring from him will be a man with something to prove.
The frantic opening to “Can You Feel It?” hits the PA system to a deafening mixed reaction from Wisconsin. As purple-colored strobes flicker throughout the darkened arena, Evan Envi walks through the curtains toward the top of the ramp. He pauses, looking out among the audience before casually making his way toward the ring, a look of amusement crossing his face as he embraces the seamless mixture of screams and boos. He pauses just once at the bottom of the ramp, looking out around the venue once more, as if taking it in. Envi adjusts the collar on his ring jacket before making his way toward the steel steps nearest the hard camera.
Melanie Sierra: And his opponent, from Ocean City, Maryland! Weighing in at 203 pounds! He is “The Chief” EVAN ENNNNNNVIIIIII!!!
As Envi finally ascends the steps, then the ring apron, the lights slowly return to normal. Envi climbs the ropes like a staircase, raising the double “V” fingers into the air as he pauses on the top turnbuckle and then drops down into the ring, fingers still raised above his head as he marches toward the far set of ropes, looking out into the audience with a smirk, muttering something beneath his breath as his music fades and his arms lower to his side. The reaction intensifies without the music to drown many members out. Envi does a 360-degree turn, curiously looking out into the audience before shrugging a bit, falling casually against the ropes.
Geoff Penzer: Two weeks ago, Evan Envi proved why he was one of the best in the world when he wrestled Logan Alexander in what was a tremendous main event. Tonight, he finds himself with a chance to advance in the Frontier Lions Cup. With Herrera’s sister choosing him #47 overall, you’ve got to wonder if Envi harbors any resentment towards our GM and if he’ll take that out on her brother in tonight’s main event.
The bell sounds as Envi and Herrera circle the ring. Envi continues to try and fake shooting in for a takedown to try and get Herrera off balance. Once Herrera eventually bites on one of the fakes, Envi connects with a forearm strike to the jaw. The boos and cheers continue as Envi knocks Herrera back with another forearm strike. After moving Herrera into the near ropes, Envi shoots him off into the far ropes. When Herrera returns, Envi throws out a clothesline. But Herrera ducks and runs into the ropes. When Herrera comes back, Envi throws out a back elbow. But again, Herrera ducks and runs into the ropes. When Herrera comes back, Envi leapfrogs over him. Herrera then continues to run the ropes. When Herrera returns, Envi turns around before dropping down into the prone position. Herrera hops over him before running into the ropes. When Herrera comes back, the crowd boos and cheers when Envi knocks him down with the Kapowski Kick (quick spinning heel kick). He makes the cover.

Herrera kicks out.
Envi brings Herrera back to his feet and moves him into the corner. The 47th Draft picks unloads on Herrera with rapid, multiple European Uppercuts and knife edge chops. The crowd “WOOO”s after each strike. The Chief then takes Herrera and sends him into the opposite corner with an irish whip. Envi runs across the ring to attack, but Herrera knocks him back with a boot to the face. With Envi dazed, Herrera runs out of the corner to attack. Envi tries to counter his oncoming opponent with another Kapowski Kick. But this time, Herrera catches him in mid air. The crowd cheers when Herrera lifts up Envi before throwing him down with a Bane-style backbreaker across the knee. Envi rolls away from Herrera before howling and holding his back in pain.
Geoff Penzer: Envi tried to go to the well one too many times and it backfired big time!
Herrera picks up Envi and whips him into the ropes. When Envi returns, Herrera throws him down with a big back body drop. As soon as Envi’s back crashes on the canvas, Envi sits up and arches his back in pain. Herrera heads over, pulls Envi back to his feet and whips him hard into the corner. Envi staggers out of the corner before dropping to his knees. Herrera cracks his knuckles in anticipation as he makes his way over towards The Chief. Envi calls for a timeout, but Herrera doesn’t want to hear it. As he goes to bring Envi back to his feet, Envi quickly takes a page out of his old running mate’s playback and hits Herrera with a surprise kneeling jawbreaker, sending Herrera stunning back. While Herrera tries to shake out the cobwebs, Envi gets back to his feet, rushes over and executes a step-up hurricanrana. After Herrera gets up to a knee, Envi winds up before walloping him with a Buzzsaw Kick. The crowd chers and boos as Herrera goes down before Envi makes the cover.

Geoff Penzer: Envi tried to take Herrera’s head off with that kick!
Envi picks up Herrera and strikes with him a forearm shot across the jaw before whipping him into the ropes. When Herrera returns, Envi sends him chin-first down to the mat with a snap drop toe hold. With Herrera now on all fours, Envi quickly flips over and pins Herrera with an Oklahoma Roll.

Herrera kicks out.
After both grapplers return to their feet, Envi throws out a kick to the midsection. But Herrera’s catches his foot. He then swings Envi’s leg away from him. But Envi uses his momentum to his advantage by spinning in place and coming back with a hard forearm strike to the jaw. He then steps back before connecting with a superkick, sending Herrera stumbling back. Envi then turns and heads into the far ropes. When he comes back, he connects with a dropkick, knocking Herrera through the ropes and to the floor. While Herrera slowly pulls himself up on the apron using the ropes, Envi runs into the corner before delivering a springboard roundhouse kick, knocking Herrera off the apron and to the floor. The mixed reaction get even louder when Envi spins in place with his arms spread out. But his celebration is quickly cut short when he goes to hold the small of his back. The Chief continues to try and massage his lower back when he sees Herrera beginning to pick himself up off the floor. So Envi turns and runs into the far ropes. When he comes back, he leaps through the ropes and knocks Herrera down with a suicide European Uppercut.
Geoff Penzer: Envi takes it to the air before taking out Herrera on the outside with that dive!
The boos and cheers continue as Envi picks up Herrera, slams him face-first onto the apron and shoves him back in underneath the bottom rope. The Chief then goes for a slingshot elbow drop. But Herrera’s able to roll out of the way, causing Envi’s elbow to hit nothing but the canvas. As Envi gets back to his feet, Herrera quickly latches onto the arm and delivers a trio of arm wrenches. The Chief howls in pain while Herrera continues to keep a hold of the arm. A hard yank to the arm brings Envi down to a knee. Envi gets back to his feet, only to get sent back down to a knee after another tug on the arm. The ref asks Envi if he wants to give up. But The Chief refuses. He then rolls forward, leans back and kicks up. But Herrera sends him flipping down to the canvas with a hard arm wrench. He drops down and makes the cover.

Herrera brings Envi back to his feet. After being on the receiving end of another arm wrench, Envi takes his free hand, palms Herrera’s face and moves him across the ring and into the ropes to force a rope break.
Ref: ONE… TWO… THREE… FOUR…
As soon as Herrera lets go, he gets rocked with a European Uppercut. Envi then takes The Bossman and sets him up for an irish whip. But Herrera reverses, sending Envi into the far ropes. When Envi returns, he slides through Herrera’s legs. When Herrera turns around, Envi pops back up to his feet and throws out a roundhouse kick. But Herrera ducks, grabs Envi from behind and lifts him up for a belly to back suplex. Envi is able to roll over Herrera’s back, land on his feet and applies a straightjacket joke before pulling him down with multiple backbreakers. The boos and cheers continue as he makes the cover.

Envi picks up Herrera and knocks him back with a stinging knife edge chop to the chest. He then blasts Herrera with another knife edge chop when Herrera comes back with a chop of his own. Envi yelps as Herrera knocks him back with a trio of chops. After an elbow strike to the face, Herrera takes Envi and whips him into the corner. Envi arches his back in pain when his spine collides with the turnbuckles. Herrera then runs into the corner to attack. But The Chief knocks him back with a back elbow strike. He then quickly hops onto the apron through the ropes, scales to the top turnbuckle and goes for a flying senton bomb. But Herrera counters with a sitout powerbomb!

Geoff Penzer: Envi was lucky to get his shoulder up after that counter! His back has to be feeling like hell.
Herrera pick up Envi and goes for a vertical suplex. But Envi blocks the move. Herrera then goes to muscle up Envi for another vertical suplex. He’s got Envi up. But on the way up, Envi knees Herrera in the head, forcing him back down. After turning and placing Herrera in a headlock, Envi goes for a running bulldog. But Herrera shoves him off into the ropes. When Envi returns, Herrera throws out a clothesline. But Envi ducks, hooks him, lifts him up and throws him down with a Uranage. Envi holds his back before he drops down and makes the cover.

Herrera gets his shoulder up.
Geoff Penzer: Good counter there by The Chief, but it only gets a count of two.
Envi sits up Herrera and places him in a rear chinlock. The ref gets down in front of Herrera and asks him if he wants to give up. When Herrera refuses, Envi gets to his feet before driving his knee into the back of Herrera before reapplying the rear chinlock. The ref asks Herrera again if he wants to give up. But the Tag Champ refuses. So Envi tightens the hold as he pulls back.
Geoff Penzer: This capacity crowd here in the Resch Center tonight is behind Dan Herrera. Can Herrera feed off their energy and get back on offense?
The lead official checks in with Herrera again and asks if he wants to give up. But Herrera refuses to throw in the towel, so he waves the ref off. He slowly turns over onto his knees before getting back to his feet. After delivering four elbows to the midsection to break the hold, he motions towards the ropes. But Envi quickly delivers a single-knee Lungblower flipped into a Crossface.
Geoff Penzer: The Backpack Attack!
Envi grits his teeth as he’s got the hold locked in. The ref gets down and asks Herrera if he wants to give up. When Herrera refuses, Envi pulls back. The crowd cheers as they try to rally behind Herrera. The official asks Herrera if he wants to give up. As soon as Herrera refuses to quick, Envi begins to repeatedly pull back.
Geoff Penzer: Look at Evan Envi! He’s fighting like hell for the submission!
Envi yells for Herrera to tap. But Herrera hangs on. He’s given another opportunity to give up. But once again, Herrera refuses. Herrera lets out a labored groan as he struggles to try and pull himself towards the side of the ring. Envi continues to yank back on the hold while Herrera scratches and claws his way across the canvas. The cheers get louder while Herrera continues to fight his way towards the ropes. Envi shakes his head in disbelief as he sees Herrera making progresses. Members of the crowd try to will Herrera on as they wave their arms towards the ropes. Herrera reaches out… and grabs the bottom rope. The crowd explodes with cheers once Herrera has made it to the ropes. But the cheers are quickly replaced with a mixed reaction when Envi refuses to release the hold. The ref steps in and gives Envi to the count of five to release the hold or end up DQ’d.
Ref: ONE… TWO… THREE… FOUR…
Envi reluctantly breaks the hold.
Geoff Penzer: Herrera made it to the ropes. But how much did that take out of him?
After Herrera slowly pulls himself up using the ropes, Envi quickly runs up from behind, wraps his arms around his waist and goes for a German Suplex. But Herrera blocks the move by wrapping his arms around the top rope. Envi tries to yank Herrera off the ropes before hoisting him up for a German Suplex. But Herrera continues to hang onto the top rope for dear life. Envi continues to try and yank Herrera off the ropes until Herrera flings his head back and hits Envi in the face with the back of his skull. Herrera hits him in the face with the back of his head again before letting go of the ropes with one of his arms and hitting him with a back elbow. After performing a standing switch, Herrera lifts Envi up onto his shoulders. Envi helplessly waves his arms while Herrera turns and walks towards the center of the ring. He then falls back, delivering an Electric Chair Drop to cheers from the crowd. Envi howls in pain while he arches his back. After getting back to his feet, Herrera pulls up Envi and whips him into the ropes. When Envi returns, Herrera leans forward before lifting Envi up onto his shoulders. The crowd cheers when Herrera turns before throwing him down with the Wit’s End (double leg slam). He drops down and makes the cover.

As a hurt Envi slowly gets back to a vertical base and turns around, Herrera charges out of the corner and goes for a spear. But Envi counters at the last second with a Kapowski Kick! The mixed reaction continues as Envi quickly brings Herrera back to his feet, hooks both arms and plants him head-first onto the canvas with The Blues (scissored snap double underhook DDT).
